Our room needs a little upgrading. Room G3. Inadequate water pressure so we did not use the shower. Toilet flush mechanism on the cistern broken but just about operating. Sink plug leaks so you can’t run a bowl of water. Window blinds broken. But the room was clean, the bedding fine and it was ok for our requirements…ie. A place to sleep. Breakfast was very good.

Room fairly comfortable. Breakfast very good. Buffet system worked very well. We ate at the restaurant on two nights . First time we ordered prawns for a starter but they had run out. Requested what beers they had on draught and were informed only bottled beers available. Apple crumble really good. Second time we both had the fish and chips. Really nicely cooked and both of us had a good sized cod. Location is exceptional as it is handy both for the village, beach and for Rye and Hastings. Local bus passes the front of the hotel/motel which is handy when you do not want to drive. Staff very friendly.

The property is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Outside is a lovely seating area overlooking the countryside. The young lady at reception was very welcoming and also the young gentleman who was there when we checked out was extremely helpful. The breakfast was lovely and the tables were well laid out in the dining room with plenty of space between each one, so no one felt cramped. The selection of food available caters for all and we would certainly return again. The bar was also very interesting and imaginatively laid out.
The decor in our room was a little plain but the wet room was great and everything was lovely and clean. We would have liked to have tried one or two local wines/ales at the bar.

Location was perfect for us, I liked the fact that you have your own access to each room and the breakfast was outstanding. I appreciated the little touches like the outside seating area located around the beautiful water feature complete with fish and an added bonus was I could hear it from my room which aided my sleep. The staff were friendly, especially Violet who was very helpful and efficient and even when she was very busy running round trying to meet everyone’s needs at breakfast time she did so with a smile, she’s a real asset to Winchelsea Lodge.
There wasn’t anything I disliked.

Breakfast was perfect: cooked English b’fast and continental plus plenty of fruit and yogurt. Position of room was overlooking the courtyard surrounding a fountain and pond. There was seating with cushions where you could wait for your friends to join you. The hotel was just on the outskirts of Winchelsea so it was convenient for travel to different places. Plenty of parking. The staff were excellent, efficient and friendly. What more could you want!
For me - nothing - but if a disabled person with a wheelchair chose the room as it had a wet room, access may have been a little difficult into the en-suite bathroom.

We were a group of 6 cyclists doing the Cantii Way cycle route. We arrived drenched after rain most of the day. Check in went fine and we were allowed to store our bikes (including e bikes) inside a spare room, locked for security. The dinner was excellent but the breakfast was even better with a huge selection of cereals, fruit etc. The radiators were red hot and we managed to dry all our gear. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Rooms were quiet and we got a good nights sleep. If you came by car there were spaces for parking which I believe is free.
A bit isolated with Rye 4 miles away and no transport (except bikes) to reach a wider selection of restaurants. The shower was a bit lukewarm but I suspect it was our operation since others from our party had no problem.

The room was beautiful and clean, the staff were friendly and the breakfast was amazing so much to choose from and the fresh fruit was beautiful.
We arrived at 14.40 and wasn't allowed into the reception not even to sit in the bar area was told to sit outside i know check in is at 3pm however to have to sit outside with our suitcase wasnt very nice, our room the radiator valve was broken in the bathroom so the heating was stuck on and it was hot and the blind was a pain to shut, however when we checked out we explained to the gentleman on the desk who was going to check it out and get it sorted so no problems.

Close to Rye and Camber. Good atmosphere in evening bar on 1st night. Wonderful breakfast both mornings.
No room service meant overflowing rubbish bin. Very loud, roudy bunch in the lounge on 2nd night who proceeded to the neighbouring room to continue their noise into the night. No bedside light in room 6. No local knowledge/map of Rye at reception desk. Need another bathroom shelf, our washbags were on the floor. No cooling fan in the rooms. No tissues. Quite honestly, it should not have a 4 star rating.

Great rooms - we were upgraded to the Kingfisher suite - and the two of us had plenty of room and modern fittings. Great view of the countryside including lots of birds and rabbits! Breakfast was cooked very well and we also had a couple of meals during our stay - I had the mixed kebab meal and it was very nice but so large a portion I was unable to finish it! Reasonable prices in the bar too - and friendly staff all round.
If I had to be picky the service for main meals could have been quicker but restaurant was busy on Saturday evening and we could tell it was all freshly cooked.

Where do I stop with the praise for this formidable outstanding hotel and restaurant in a great location, the greeting on arrival from Reanne was very informative and helpful, the bar had a good selection of drinks (a pint for under a fiver) they assisted to putting the football/ Rugby on for us after requesting, the restaurant evening meal was outstanding and very reasonably priced, the owner Lee was an exceptional host and made us feel very welcome. The room OMGOSH unbelievable, I’ve never stayed in a suite so exclusive ( no short cuts have been made anywhere in the style and decor) the beds are out of this world, breakfast was a must to start the day fresh fruit yoghurt cereal to full English unlimited (included in the price) simply the best hotel I’ve stayed in, I didn’t want to leave, I’ll definitely be back soon thank you to you all.
