Location was fab, dealings with staff ahead of the stay was friendly & professional, this was also echoed during the stay on the tiny odd occasions we required anything. The regular lunch (and sometimes dinner) service was polite & professional. The suite was huge with lots of space, and felt like it had had a recent makeover. The hotel was clean in every area we visited. Being given a standard room to shower/change in before we left (due to a late return flight) was a wonderful gesture!

A few previous reviews on here state how this doesn’t quite have the 5 star quality. I have to agree. It’s a solid 8.5 out or 10 (or 4 stars). A few tiny details bring the score down, from staff training & service (I think with more training the service would improve - some staff do have the 5 star quality, just not consistent enough), breakfast (really needs looking at from food options & quality). A turndown service doesn’t exist every night, but did happen on 2 random occasions (on night 2, and night 6). The hotel is dated (it has history but needs a little love to bring it into the future - e.g furniture not 5 star). Facilities also need some improving to match the price point! With a few tiny details addressed it could be at the 5 stars already given.

this was our honeymoon so we splashed out and was not disappointed. The gardens are what makes it so beautiful, from the pool area, the terrace with spectacular views and the private area down by the sea. It also has a central location to all the other hotels with great restaurants, the main area, station and the port. Highly recommend.

The shower (in the bath) was not brilliant, I would say the whole bathroom needs updating.

Everything! It’s perfection top to bottom. It was our 30th anniversary and hotel left us champagne and a beautiful card in our room. The location is just perfect with a short 5 minute walk got eh square but far enough to be away from the noise. The room was absolutely gorgeous with the most amazing floral tile floor. The sheets were butter soft. The room attendant was perfection. The breakfast is in the most glorious room overlooking gorgeous property and the sea. There are so many choices for breakfast and the service is top of the line. The grounds of the hotel are spectacular and meticulously taken care of. The front desk team is so accommodating and helpful. There is a lift/elevator to the swim platform down on the cliff that has the most amazing garden restaurant. It’s paradise. They thought of everything. The pool is so well attended. The pool bar drinks were outstanding. The lunch overlooking the sea is some of the best food we’ve had. Pizza was to die for! At night they have a outdoor area overlooking the sea with live music and drinks. The waitress was fantastic. BRAVO to this most outstanding team! You made our stay unforgettable. Top to bottom a 5 star luxury hotel!

Not a thing not to like here!

The hotel is very well maintained with a huge garden and private beach area. The location is perfect, it is very peaceful and quiet place but only 10 min walk to the central part of the town with a lot of restaurants and shops. On arrival we got a room upgrade which was a very nice way to start our vacation at the Grand Hotel Royal. The room was very clean, good sized with a comfortable bathroom and a lot of storage place. The bed was comfortable so we had very good sleep there. the hotel staff is mega helpful and professional. We felt looked after very well during our stay. We will definitely stay again at the GHR, highly recommended!

We really missed porridge at breakfast( probably something to consider for the hotel management). Also, there were a lot of waiters in the dining area, but we had to make an effort to get their attention. One morning, when we arrived to get some breakfast we sat at one of the tables available but the staff surrounded us saying that we can’t seat there with mostly no explanation. It was so embarrassing moment as people around were looking at what was happening and we had look for another table. Later, we seen them providing this table to another guests. That was unexpected to experience in a 5* hotel. The restourant staff must respect the quest feelings more and be more professional.

The setting, grandness, the view and flow of the place too. And the lift to the sun deck and terrace!

Thought the breakfast should be better. Not enough choice really and some things like croissant that felt like they were from the day before. And underdone bacon. Yuk.

Our stay at the Grand Hotel Royal was nothing short of breathtaking. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the beauty of the hotel and the incredible views from the back balcony. No picture could ever do justice to how stunning the view truly was. The hotel itself is elegant and luxurious, and the staff at the front desk were incredibly kind and helpful, always ready to answer our questions and assist us with anything we needed. One of the waitresses, who was incredibly sweet, made our experience even more memorable. She shared that her mom is a food critic and recommended a local restaurant that turned out to be the best meal we had in all of Italy! The food at the hotel was also exceptional—especially the panna cotta and delizia al limone which were some of the best we've ever tasted! The service was impeccable throughout our stay. Our room was always spotless, and our bed was made up every day when we returned. They even left delicious chocolate truffles for us each time, which was such a thoughtful touch. We always had plenty of fresh towels and toiletries as well. The room itself was incredibly comfortable, and while we didn’t have an ocean view, our balcony offered a beautiful view, complete with a small table where we enjoyed sitting. And honestly, you don’t need an ocean-view room because you can simply walk downstairs to the terrace, which overlooks the stunning blue sea with plenty of seating. We also had access to their beach area, which was a wonderful bonus! One feature we loved was the electric shades that completely darkened the room, making it perfect for a restful night's sleep. The location of the hotel is ideal as well—everything in Sorrento was within walking distance, which made exploring the area so easy and enjoyable. I can’t say enough great things about the Grand Hotel Royal. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Sorrento—it truly exceeded all of our expectations!

Wow, just wow. Pictures online just don't do this place justice. We stayed here for 5 nights for our mini-moon, after our wedding in Tuscany and this hotel was perfect. The facilities are beautiful, the staff is incredibly helpful and welcoming, the spa services were fabulous (we went for round 2 of couples massages because they were THAT good!), the breakfast was delicious, and the VIEWS!!!! My goodness. We wish we could have stayed longer so we could have enjoyed lounging around the hotel more. Everything here is done to perfection. The hotel is close enough to the center of Sorrento without being right in the thick of everything, which we loved. We felt like we were living in a dream world. Sorrento is amazing, and when we go back we will definitely stay at the Grand Royal again!

This hotel was just beautiful, as soon as we walked through the doors and were greeted by the friendly staff I felt so happy that we had chosen this hotel. It has a luxurious and classic Italian feel, and the views are spectacular. We had a suite and it was a great size, it was pristine and it was kept this way thanks to the amazing maids. The hotel is immaculately clean. We ate at the restaurant and enjoyed the tasting menu which was superb, they had live music on that evening which was so lovely, they even sang directly to us at our table which was an experience. It’s a really good location, just a short walk from the main square and there are some lovely restaurants on the same road, as well as a beautiful Lemon Grove where they have a limoncello distillery. If you are looking for luxury then this is the hotel for you!

My husband and I decided to book The Grand Royal Hotel for our honeymoon and they exceeded our expectations! We asked for a more private room location for our special request and when we arrived they located us in the corner room, with a sea view and hottub (which was not guaranteed when we booked), and welcomed us with prosecco. The room was immaculate and always cleaned. The beds were supper comfortable. Italy is not known for their breakfast but the Grand Royal outdid themselves. As for the location it was no more than a 5 minute walk to the metro/bus station, Piazza Tasso, and other shopping areas. No more than a 10 minute walk to the ferries and 20 minute walk to the main marina. Not to mention we were easily able to take day trips through public transportation to Amalfi, Positano, Capri/Anacapri, and Pompeii. The hotel staff was very helpful with that! Overall, it was an incredible stay and we can't wait to come back!
