The hotel is beautiful. We stayed in a newly refurbished room which was stunning. The hotel is going through a re-furb and reception notify you on arrival, however it doesn't affect your stay and will make the hotel look even more fabulous. The spa is lush and worth the entry fee. The food in the restaurant was beautifully prepared and flavoursome. They do some great takes on classic dishes but also some different food also. Excellent gluten free range.

The only issue we had with our stay was with other guests who decided to have a 5 hour argument in the room next door. Our room had an adjoining door which hampered the sound proofing so we heard every word, and despite us kindly asking them twice to keep it down they didnt. Regardless of this, when we informed the night porter he was so calm, kind and efficient and gave us another room to sleep in so that we could actually sleep. The hotel reception were also very apologetic and did their best to appease the situation. They couldn't have handled it better.

Creaky floorboards!

We were pleasantly surprised by the historical vibe the hotel offered! Walking down the corridors, I felt like I was transported back in time. It was such a unique experience that really added to the overall charm of the hotel. The restaurant was absolutely stunning! The decor, the ambiance, the food - everything was top-notch. I felt like royalty dining there. It's definitely a must-visit if you're ever in the area. But the real highlight for me was the family room. It was exquisite! The attention to detail, the comfort, the space - it was perfect for a relaxing stay with loved ones. I could have stayed in there all day! Staff communicated us lovely spots to visit locally and that was very welcoming! Will definitely be back!

Loved the very old buildings combined with the new refurbishment,a nice room overlooking the courtyard and opposite the spa,breakfast was lovely,all the staff were very helpful and friendly

Negative was the cancellation of 2 spa treatments because they told us there was a staff shortage,yet speaking to a couple who had just arrived they were told the same yet they persisted and and managed to get a booking, and we had already been there for a day,and had asked the staff to inform us if there was a cancellation so that was disappointing, we were so looking forward to treatments.

A clever blend of the historic and the modern, especially in the restaurant. We had a "small double" room, which was adequate for a two night stay. The spa facilities were excellent. The food in the restaurant was excellent and well presented. Our waitress Diane was a star.

Unfortunately there are floodlights to illuminate the front of the building, which shone all night around the edges of the window blind. As the room was quite small, we occasionally walked into the corners of the dressing table. Guests at a wedding reception were coming and going until well after midnight, causing disturbance in the corridor outside the bedroom.

It would be unfair to say that there isn't much to do in the local area since I was only staying for one day...

From the time we checked in, to paying our bill we loved our visit. The hotel itself has quite the presence, overlooking the green celebrating its mining heritage. Our room was in the converted coachhouse, it was stunning, well maintained, full of character and very comfortable. We ate in the room between the bar and the restaurant as our dogs were with us, the standard of service during both of our evening meals was exceptional, the dogs got their own drinks and had a fuss made of them! the staff attention to detail, ensuring the experience was perfect and our food was delicious. Breakfast was very generous, huge selection of cooked food, cereal, fruit and more. The only disappointment was that the pastries were so small, but that is the only one. Every member of staff from arrival to leaving were exceptional. Looking forward to another stay!

Our bed was a little too firm, but that’s it.

The hotel and spa was lovely and clean. The staff were so friendly and helpful.

We had room 5, it was wonderful, very comfortable, fresh, clean and spacious, dressing table with comfortable chair and a sofa to relax with a hot beverage of choice in the bedroom area. The bathroom /ensuite was also really nice, again spacious, clean and bright, double sinks, large bath and separate walk in shower.

There wasn't anything to dislike, maybe the fact that you enter the room from the hallway, as soon as you get through the door, you have to go up a flight of stairs to the bedroom. As we are both able-bodied this was not an issue for us and just made the room feel very private and more like a suite.
