A stay in the historic district - Casco Viejo - is a wonderful way to discover Panama City and the Sofitel Legend is the perfect place to do it in style. The hotel exudes luxury, straight from the lobby. The staff is absolutely lovely and so helpful. We were proposed an upgrade to a Junior Suite with ocean view for $60/night and I'm glad we did. The room is spacious, with a large balcony which gives beautiful views of the bay and the city. The king bed is on the softer side but very comfortable. The bathroom is spacious, with a clawfoot deep soaking tub, but most remarkably with a very large shower and maybe the most incredible water pressure I have ever experienced. The breakfast was copious, with delicious pastries (straight from the in-house French bakery/coffeeshop). The hotel is a great base to explore the colorful (albeit a bit gentrified/touristy) historic district since it sits at its very end, away from the parts of Casco Viejo that are a bit more rundown (and some say less safe). I would personally recommend drinks at Element, a fun cocktail bar with a quirky steampunk theme, and dinner at Fonda Lo Que Hay, where the food is amazing, cheap and definitely worth the hype (reserve at least 2 weeks in advance). We also stayed at La Compañia in Casco Viejo, which is often seen as a rival/alternative choice hotel; La Compañia is much busier and vibrant, with more food options, but Sofitel is definitely a class above and feel more luxurious, romantic and relaxing, with friendlier staff and unbeatable views.

Not much to dislike in this high end hotel. However, our suite was on the west corner, which faced other rooms and overlooked the pool, and if you wanted to take a bath while enjoying the ocean view, there was little privacy and you basically had to lower the blinds. Maybe some one-way glass could fix this issue at least during the day. One detail to consider when staying there (not the hotel's fault) but the streets of Casco Viejo can get really slow traffic so leave ample time for airport transfers.

I liked the location. The grounds is beautiful and the pool. The staff is very welcoming, high customer service oriented. Loved the strawberry lemonade and cool towels infuse in mint to cool me down from the outside heat. What a great touch. The restaurant service was exceptional and the waiter

I did not care for my room location, it was more of a basement water view. Not what I imagines. I learned from this experience next time to be more specific when asking for ocean view. I choosed the patio to have breakfast and it took over an hour to get an avocado toast with salmon, hard boil eggs, chia bowl, croisant and coffee. After 30 min of not getting anything, my husband talked to the hostess and we were given Coffee and the croisant. My husband left to his appointment, I continued to wait and took breakfast to the room as I had other commitments. I was not charged for breakfast at check-out for the inconvinienced. But, learned that Inside the service was faster. If the problem is wait staff or cooks, this is something easy to fix.

The concierge service was fantastic. We had issues with birds nests causing issues right above our balcony, so we were graciously offered a complimentary room upgrade. The hotel’s location is stellar with a gorgeous panorama of the ocean and is in a very secure area. Room cleanliness is also top-notch.

Long wait times at the restaurant for both lunch and dinner during non-busy hours. We had asked for ketchup at one point, but our waiter never came back with it. Another time we asked the waiter to confirm that the appetizer meat would be fully cooked (not raw) and he assured us that it would indeed be fully cooked according to our request. Unfortunately, it ended up being served completely raw and so we sent it back untouched, however we were still charged full price for it.

Breakfast were great. Many choices of fresh juices & tasty food including the choice of local breakfast. Waiters were very attentive, professional & friendly. I also had dinner at Caleta with family who were staying at a different hotel. Every small dinner choice we made was excellent not only in looks but flavor too. My 6 yrs old nephew spilled & broke his juice drink and they very calmly moved us to a new table a clean the mess. Hardly a hiccup of an event. 😍

I noted a broken down kitchen appliance on the beach/rocks as you look outside the balcony of a common area looking towards the park, City across from Ruben Blades’s home. Not a pleasant view to have outside your 5 stars hotel.

The rooftop pool offered a tranquil oasis with panoramic views, perfect for relaxing and toasting to another year. Oh, I absolutely loved the SpeakEasy room!! Thank you sooo much. I will be back!

There's nothing bad to say about this hotel. Just the mosquitos outside. Make sure you have your repellant spray or pick one up at the store near the hotel.

Everything about this hotel was magnificent. The wonderful experience started from when we arrived at the hotel. The service to unload our car was immediate, upon entering the hotel there is a table of gorgeous roses and orchids, and check-in was very quick and smooth. The entire hotel is impeccably clean and extremely well maintained. We booked a “Magnifique King Ocean Front with Balcony” room and it was beautiful. It was huge and well decorated, including a lounging sofa and chair. The bed was firm and comfortable, and the pillows were soft and comfy. The bathroom was also huge – with two sinks and a large vanity and a separate shower that had terrific water pressure. There were double doors that opened to a small balcony that had a wonderful view of both the city and parts of Casco Viejo. There were also some nice touches in the room. Supplies to make a French press coffee are included. I was a bit skeptical because I’m not a French press fan, but I gave it a try and was impressed. The coffee is a special Sofitel blend and it is pre-measured. They provided instructions regarding the amount of water, temperature and time to brew the coffee – it was excellent. (They also provided a special kettle to heat the water to the exact temperature specified). There was also a booklet that provided an informative, well written history of the hotel. We dined and had cocktails at a number of different venues at the hotel; they were all excellent. Café Vera is also an excellent coffee shop on its own. Our room included breakfast – which was also fabulous. There were many selections to choose from and the portions were quite large. The star meal for us was dinner at Caleta – which was outstanding. (See review on Google). The workout room was well equipped and the pool area well designed (including lounge chairs in the water). The service was consistently outstanding everywhere. Everyone was attentive but not overwhelming. We'll definitely stay again!

Location, staff, and the property itself were great. The place and especially the staff is on another level in terms of service mindedness. We went to the Sofitel for relaxation as the main purpose and we did get exactly that. The sound of the waves just outside of our room was also nice.

Maybe more information on events of the hotel. Also, faster restaurant service when it comes to drinks while waiting for the food. This is a small point of improvement that can translate to great reviews :)

The Kind Oceanfront room has a view to the city that was sensational. The bed was comfortable, the shower was large and water pressure fantastic. Turn down service on my first night included a cheese platter which was a nice touch! We ordered breakfast room service and it was delicious. The pool was beautiful and an excellent way to cool down and have a cocktail after a day of exploring in the heat and humidity.

I would have given 10/10 however breakfast in the restaurant on my last day before I left was chaos so unfortunately my departing experience was not positive. The waitress forgot my juice, forgot my mushrooms, had to ask for coffee to be refilled, had to ask for butter and jams for the pastries, no avocado, the service and attention to detail was terrible for 5 star hotel. I would have been better off ordering room service like I did the previous morning.

Great location, in the old town but not in the midst of it, so feels airy and calmer. Perfectly restored with large rooms and all the comforts you'd expect in a nice hotel (e.g. the choice of pillows). Fabulous facilities (pool, gym, rooftop bar, etc) and attentive staff.

We have requested a separate roll-out bed for our 4-year-old but when we arrived the check-in staff told us they had not received any such message from Booking.com and that all roll-out beds were taken. We had shown an online confirmation clearly stating our request - to no avail - our child ended up sleeping on a sofa. It's hot & humid - beware of mosquitos. It is VERY pricey. $ 9 USD for a late in an adjacent coffee shop is not sustainable.
