We were given a free upgrade to the Bridle suite which was beautiful. Staff were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant

If I had to make a complaint it was that the beans on the breakfast was cold but it wasn’t a big issue

We enjoyed the breakfast choices; the food was lovely. Our room was beautifully decorated and furnished and very comfortable. The sloe gin was a nice and unexpected welcome. We ate in the restaurant on our first night. The food and service were outstanding.

There was little to complain about. Minor points: we could hear some noise from the neighbouring room, breakfast service was not quite as good on our second morning: coffee not hot enough, some missing items in the buffet. We didn’t like our restaurant bill having a 12.5% service charge added. The service was excellent but the choice of how much to add should be at the client‘s discretion. On querying the amount we were told it could be removed but that would have left us feeling mean!

Nicely decorated The linen (both towels and sheets) were the best! Probably one of the best duvets at a hotel. I liked that the barn rooms didn’t have carpet, the room feels cleaner line that. Coffee machine and water in the room which was great. It was clean juts a little bit of dust but nothing major. Breakfast was included and it was very nice, however it’s not a buffet, you order and the portions aren’t that big.

After the shower a bad smell was coming out of the drains. I told them and they checked it immediately but tbh it didn’t go away even though they cleaned it. Room was a bit small but I didn’t mind as I was only one person. I had a discount but I think for full price is a bit overpriced even though it’s much better than other accommodations in the area.

This place is a gem. A beautiful old coaching in on the a4 just outside of Newbury, the inn has been beautifully renovated and is now a really sumptuous, comfortable place to stay. The room was really spacious and the bed super comfortable. We really enjoyed the complimentary sloe gin too! The restaurant was also excellent, we had dinner there both nights, and breakfast was also great too. We stayed there because my wife had a business meeting, but this turned into a really lovely little excursion. Well recommended.

The ONLY thing I would say is that the location is a little out of Newbury. It is within walking distance but I'd say it's around a 25 minute walk each way. Taxis are however available from Newbury, and there are bus stops nearby too. There isn't a great deal in Speen, although the Kennet and Avon canal and river Kennet are both within a short walk and worth a stroll in a sunny day.

The room was a small but good size; we loved the little touches like Sloe gin and the Christmas tree. Staff were extremely accommodating and friendly - I'm currently going through chemotherapy treatment, I'd requested for breakfast to not have people sit next to us to protect me from illness, and they made sure this happened. I felt really comfortable being there. The breakfast was fantastic, the full english was included in the stay which we didn't expect and were very happy with. The general spread of pastries, fruit, juices, continental meat, and cheese were great, too.

Wonderful room. Very stylish. Lots of extras. Not run of the mill. Highly recommended.

We had dinner at the restaurant in the pub. Food was lovely. We hate it when the tip is automatically added to the bill (+12,5%). Unfortunately, this was the case there. We have had dinner in many restaurants in pubs, but so far we have only come across this nuisance in fancy restaurants. We tip anyway if we are satisfied with the service, but tipping should be our decision, especially in restaurants in pubs.

Despite it being on the main road, the room was silent. Great style and little touches throughout. All staff were incredible. Beat full English I’ve ever eaten! Great nearby walks

Room 21 was extremely hot. Only had a very lightly powered fan. When I mentioned it to the receptionist the first morning they said “oh yes we get a lot of complaints about that” without apology or solution. It was disappointing as the staff had been otherwise great and the sat perfect. But no sleep due to heat (and no apology or solution) is not ideal! Cocktails overpriced. Would happily pay £12 if it is made to a higher standard

Me and my partner stayed here when we were visiting a nearby vineyard for the day and H&H was the perfect choice! The place itself was totally charming and full of personality. Our room was gorgeous and on the top floor of a outer stable block with a gorgeous bay window. The small touches like milk being delivered in cute bottles by the night porter and complimentary sloe gin showed just how much the property and staff thought about its guests. The bed was big and so comfortable—we had such a good night's sleep! We also stayed for dinner and the staff couldn't have done more to help us, were always attentive and the food was fab. To top it all the breakfast was great, was set up us for the drive home. We were honestly a little sad to leave, but I'm sure we'll find a reason to visit again!

Absolutely nothing, it was great!

Having previously stayed at the Hare and Hounds Newbury, we expected high levels of service and a very comfortable stay and we were not disappointed. Ideally placed if you are going to Newbury Races, this hotel guarantees a warm welcome, excellent food choices, a wonderful breakfast and a very comfortable bed. Nice bar area in and outside but above all the team here ensure you enjoy your stay. My wife had a couple of small diamonds come loose from her jewelry but we called to ask if they could check our room and they found them! Thank you again to the Team at the Hare and Hounds 🙏🏼

Storage space is limited in the smaller rooms so depending on your length of stay, it will be worth booking a larger room. Having said they are ideal for an overnight stay.

The Hare & hounds exceeded our expectations, although the bedroom was small , it was exactly true to pictures . This place is oozes character! We were able to walk into Newbury & Donnington Castle. The food was amazing, the menus available throughout the day/evening certainly did not disappoint, service was excellent & Max was indeed an excellent host - not forgetting the young ladies in the restaurant who were excellent & so friendly & professional. The outside eating area was a bonus given the weather & a chef on the barbecue on the bank holiday weekend…. Let’s say the icing on the cake!!! Food was 10/10 ….. from start to finish…. Bravo !

So sorry….. when the restaurant got very busy at peak times it was obvious there was a struggle … It is a bit out of the way if you have no car but we got around on foot & took taxi to Highclere….
