Lovely and clean. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was lovely! Great range of food served as a buffet. Room we were in was clean. There was a fan and hairdryer which also came in handy. Close by to eateries and shops. Bathroom was big! Slept well. Loved the library.

We managed to get a parking space, but can see this being an issue for others arriving at different times. Our room. Furniture was tired, wallpaper was peeling in our room and we were way too hot, even with the fan on all day and night. No signage to tell you where everything was so we got very confused trying to find facilities, so had to ask reception. Hot tub had no water in it so we were unable to use it, which we were looking forward to relaxing in! No information leaflet, map, or guide on the hotel anywhere in the room or in the hotel which I think would help people feel more at ease knowing where everything was instead of asking reception all the time. TV was TINY. We were unable to see it properly so ended up not watching it.

The location was excellent for the historic dockyard; Mary Rose Museum, Gunwharf Quays and The Spinnaker Tower all of which were the main reason for our short trip. They were all within 5 minutes walking distance of the hotel. All the staff we met were friendly and welcoming; the beds were really comfortable; the linen and towels were all clean; the room was a good size; great to have tea and coffee facilities in the bedroom; the free wifi was an added bonus. We didn't have breakfast which was included as we overslept! However, we had a great breakfast at the Bar and Block which was a two minute walk around the corner. The heating in the hotel we were told would not come on until 4pm in the afternoon which was a complete surprise as the weather was quite cold when we arrived. However. We were given a free standing heater which we had the use of the entire length of our stay.

Nothing really. The main observation was that the skirting around the bottom of the bath does really need to be changed as it showed clear signs of wear. The only other thing was the toilet brush - although "clean" these are unpleasant to see and very unhygienic. Other than that, I could not fault the hotel and would certainly stay here again

Room size was good, bed was comfortable, pillows were not, the bathroom was a good size with the shower over a bath tub. The shower head had an uneven spray. There was a lift and stairs up to our room. The hallway leading to the rooms had several fire doors along it. The hall leading to our room had a very strong ‘hospital’ type smell, which was a little unpleasant. The buffet breakfast which was included in our tariff was generous with plenty to choose from and also special orders available as well. Coffee however was from an urn, not an espresso machine. We also had a dinner meal in the restaurant which was nice basic home style cooking. Staff were very polite and professional.

The smell of the hallway leading to our room. Our pillows

The location was excellent. A 5min walk from Portsmouth Harbour station, the Gosport Ferry and even closer to the Historic Naval Dockyard. Small supermarket across the road, a smattering of eateries close by etc. The room was basic (we had booked a classic double) - sort of Premier Inn standard. Good bathroom - modern and clean, good shower. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The public areas are impressive. The corridors are older and a bit old fashioned/tired but the bedroom had been refreshed, decorated in a modern style and updated and was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was buffet style and good. Coffee on tap etc and chefs constantly producing fresh supplies for the hot plate buffet. I think the hotel delivered what we hoped for and for a fair price.

The first morning was overly busy at breakfast but the staff handled and organised it well. We had to wait for about 5mins for a table to be available.

Good breakfast with plenty of choice, the room we had was an "easy access" type, although the space between the bed and the was a little tight you would have no problem manoeuvring a standard wheel chair between the bedroom and toilet area, the shower is a wet room and will take a chair. The location is ideal for visiting the Royal Dockyard and Mary Rose being only 5 minutes by foot.. All the staff were polite and very helpful.

Only one lift was working at the time, without it disabled access via the stair would be very difficult, the bar was a bit "barn" like with little atmosphere, the pool was quite small and not always available to guests as it is also used by locals. Evening meals were good but few guests used the restaurant in the evening which was a shame so the atmoshere was a bit flat

Staff were very welcoming and helpful. This continued throughout my stay. Room was excellent and like many other people who have commented before, the breakfast was top notch. I like the idea that in order to find out more about the hotel services and facilities, you just scan the QR code on the holder of your room entrance card. That contains all the info. Also wifi code. I find this is much better than all the usual paper based items at other hotels. Hotel is very close to several major tourist attractions. Within the hotel, there are many items of Nautical info and history- I personally find this a very nice touch. Very impressed with the whole experience and look forward to staying there again in the future.

No negative points

The room was well decorated & clean. Not the original room though. We booked a double accessible room. A fully accessible room with 2 adjustable beds was overkill for my needs, so Sarah found us another room. It was better, but there was no railing system in the bathroom. The staff were excellent for the most part. Sarah, Dana & Becca were excellent. Chef was great on Thurs, the most delicious croissants. Sadly, for some reason, I couldn't have a latte at breakfast, which seemed a little restricted in today's society.

Whirlpool wasn't functioning & the pool is a little small. Some of the rooms could be more accessible for the less mobile, the addition of grab rails in the bathrooms would make such a difference.

The room was reasonable. I enjoyed my swim in the pool, but it would be crowded with more than two people. there is lots of seating and tables in the foyer. The building is quite awesome - very nautical. The breakfast was lovely and good value for money. The hotel is only five minutes walk from The Royal Dockyard (which is what I had gone for) and ten minutes walk from National Express, local buses, the train station and the ferries. Gunwharf Quay is only about 12 minutes walk where there are loads of shops, restaurants, a cinema and coffee shops. There is also a Tesco metro. The Spinakker tower is also there.

The lift broke down, but was fixed the next day, but one day of walking up and down two flights of stairs was very hard work for a pensioner like me. I was quite impressed with how quickly it was mended. Sometimes there was loud shouting/singing noise from people in the street.

I arrived in time to use a parking space very near the entrance. This made a huge difference to me as I am an older woman and was travelling alone so needed to carry my luggage in. I was allocated a 'family room' so had plenty of space! It had everything I needed and was very clean with a good hot shower over the bath. The location was perfect for attending my granddaughter's graduation on Monday morning at 9.15 at Porsmouth Guildhall. I would love to stay again and do some sightseeing as the location is ideally located too for walking to all the attractions of Porstmouth harbour including Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower.

I didn't have the best night's sleep as the room was very warm and I didn't find the fan until the morning! I had the window open but the lighting in the courtyard outside was very bright and I had to keep the curtains closed which stopped the air coming in.

Breakfast was very good, even though the Hot food, wasn't that Hot,also the Hot water was the same!!Location of the Hotel was ideal for me,Staff were efficient, I had an enjoyable stay,K

I'm repeating what many other people have stated, the rooms are a little tired, most could do with a lick of paint ,also the Shower in the room I was allocated i found difficulty in adjusting, also I would have liked to have been able to close the windows??The carpet from the main Reception point, through to the Library needs replacing, it has become very dirty !K
