Classy boutique hotel with the superb atmosphere which only a 500 year old convent could possess. The lobby is impressively furnished with comfortable antique chairs and couches, an antique musical instrument collection and glass cases of 16th and 17th century objects found during renovation of the premises. Security is very good with careful monitoring of the door via ring camera. Staff was hard working, friendly, and was multilingual. Price was not bad, considering the high quality of the amenities, delicious breakfast with home baked bread, freshly squeezed juice, fresh fruit, eggs cooked to order, delicious coffee, and good aged cheese and cured ham and sausage. There are museum displays throughout the hotel, which makes it feel like you are staying in a Spanish royal home. The rooms are well appointed with canopy king-sized beds. Linen was heavy cotton sheets with sensibly light duvets, and loads of fluffy pillows. The room contained beautiful antique furnishings and fine art on the walls. Air con worked flawlessly, and there was a ceiling fan for those who prefer it. As this is a zona colonial classic hotel, it has a ten foot / 3 metre ceiling. The tv was quality and had more than 500 channels! WiFi worked very well and was fast. The bathroom was perfect, with new shower, sink and toilet, with gorgeous tiling throughout. Towels were thick terry freshly washed and pressed. There was unlimited hot water at a good pressure with plentiful soap and shampoo. This is a rare gem of a hotel in an ancient fun walking neighborhood. I highly recommend this hotel. It is not to be missed.

Everything was perfect

It's very rare that I give a property 10/10 but this place deserves it! I absolutely loved everything about it. If you want to stay somewhere with history and character with modern finishes like A/C and hot water, then choose this place. I loved the cast iron door handles, four-poster beds, the colour scheme and tiles. The roof top and courtyard areas were a great place to relax. The museum info boards in English and Spanish were a unique addition and made me feel like I was staying in a truly special place. Breakfast was substantial. Also for those of you wondering whether Santo Domingo is safe, I was shocked at it being one of the safest places I've been in Latin America, specifically all of Zona Colonial and the Three Eyes National Park. (I've travelled a lot elsewhere in Latin America).

My only recommendation is to install a pole with a curtain to hide the TV as most people don't watch TV on holiday and it was an unnecessary modern touch in an otherwise nicely renovated historical room. Keep the A/C though! Also, adding an air conditioner to the communal lounge area would entice people to sit there, but the courtyard and roof top were more than sufficient communal areas.

Very quaint and unique place as its a historical building. The rooms open into a nice courtyard area as shown in the pictures on Booking. Its very close to the main attractions in the historical zone. Very clean, good breakfast and daliy housekeeping. Very good restuarants are close by. All in all its a really good boutique hotel. They are also able to arrange tours and taxis for guests. Someone is at the front desk 24 hrs which was also good. I would stay here again.

Rooms are a bit dark but it wasnt a big issue for us. Its on a quieter street so walking late at night can be a bit lonely.

We loved the courtyard and the mix of authentic colonial style and comfort! We also enjoyed the rooftop terrace. Our room was clean and spacious and comfortably cool thanks to the AC. The bed was comfy and the breakfast had a great variety of fruits and types of scrambled eggs. We loved the coffee, it helped cure our jet lag. The staff was really friendly and helpful, nevertheless it would have helped if we could have spoken a bit of Spanish. The location was perfect, we were right in the heart of the zona colonial and had everything (supermarket, ATM, restaurants etc.) right around the corner. We highly recommend staying here.

Such a unique hotel, a true blast from the past, in the best way possible. It is a museum/hotel, so it has some information on the walls about the building and the city as well as some artefacts. The rooms each have a private entrance and you get step out into the courtyard from your room. We were in room number 5, it had two hugeeee beds and it was very comfortable. The wifi was great, the bathroom was big. Truly enjoyable experience.

Sometimes the electricity would go away, but it boosted back up quickly!

Breakfast was very good. A beautiful courtyard. Quiet. Excellent location.

The bathroom was not clean and they took dirty towels but did not leave clean ones. There was a sewer smell at times in the room.

El Beaterio is a great place, the terrace was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed drinking some beers in it. There is a quiet park across the street were you can also relax and have a beer. Public parking is 2 blocks away. Breakfast was really good and they will make you eggs in the style you prefer, which is always great. There are fruits, cereal and bread to enjoy in the morning as well. There is a supermarket two blocks away which is pretty convenient to buy beers and Mama Juana :)

The street itself can be a bit lonely at night, although we didn't feel that it wasn't safe it may just be a bit rough looking.

The location is great. The hotel is a historic experience and I loved that it’s private. The lady at the reception when we arrived was very kind.

The rooms could be cleaner. I noticed stains on the sheets. This is not a cheap hotel for the county. The breakfast staff were not wearing any gloves or masks. One lady part of the staff in particular was sneezing and coughing during breakfast and I not once saw her wash her hands. The mosquitoes are out of control. The property could do a better job at controlling that and providing mosquito nets for the beds.

Well appointed, comfortable. They incorporate the medieval architecture with elegant taste. They emphasize the history and provide detailed information about the beaterio. This unique property is well worth the price. European breakfast, with a Caribbean flare.

Construction outside made it difficult to get bags to the front door. Had to walk half a city block with suitcases and bags.

Architectural charm of the building. Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the young man who helped us check in and out. Location was perfect in the colonial zone. Rooms were clean and AC worked. Breakfast was simple, but very good. Appreciated them making eggs to order. Nice courtyard!

The main reception area was hot, but it was summer (early July) and it is a large room, so I don't think AC would work well in this room. Maybe more fans on hot days? The rooms were nice and cool. Classical music in the reception area. Would have preferred Dominican Republic music, but I guess it went with the theme of the old colonial architecture? One receptionist could have been a bit more helpful when we asked for a taxi to make a dinner reservation our first night. We assumed the taxi had been called, but perhaps it just didn't show up. We learned on our own that Uber is best and got to dinner on time. They were able to book us a taxi to take us to our rental car and to the airport. Overall, it was a great stay! We stayed again at the end of our trip and would do so again.
