There’s always a warm welcome at The Recruiting Sergeant. We stayed there a few years ago and hence our return visit. Nicola and the team were just as excellent as before, nothing is too much trouble and the food is marvellous. As good a breakfast as I’ve had anywhere and the evening menu is fabulous. Despite being very busy in the evening (lovely atmosphere) the service was great and the food of high quality.

We booked a smaller attic room which had a lovely bathroom but only a handheld shower. If you prefer a full shower you need to book one of the first floor rooms. Our error but it didn’t spoil anything and the room was lovely.

All of the staff were very warm and welcoming. Big, comfortable room. The food and service in the restaurant was great, and it was a huge bonus that we were able to take our dog in with us - we really felt that he was very welcome, he got lots of fussing over, and he even got a sausage for breakfast! Lovely circular river walk on the doorstep of the hotel. Breakfast was great. Thank you for a lovely birthday weekend away :)

Our room was on the first floor, at the front of the hotel so it was quite noisy. But it wouldn’t deter us from returning, or recommending The Recruiting Sergeant.. we are so happy to have found such a lovely, dog friendly hotel and restaurant and can’t recommend it highly enough.

Our room was first class, although there is considerable traffic noise from the road . The staff were excellent, attentive and very helpful. Food was great and the atmosphere in the dining area was warm and friendly. Very enjoyable stay.

Electric Car charging facility. This is not a great concern in your delivery of a great customer service experience. We loved it. Breakfast substantial and a wonderful way to start the day, facilities clean and of a high standard. Good lunch and evening meal menus. Staff wonderful there really wasn't anything we disliked, other than it is 300 miles from our home. Great job everyone....

Food was out of this world for dinner (photos do not do it justice..), lives up to its reputation as a top-level place to dine. Bedding and furnishings of the highest quality. Breakfast was really good made with quality ingredients (poached Haddock for my other half and a full English... though did envy the fruit salad a neighbouring table had).

Missing the little touches for the price to stay over (cheap instant coffee and PG tips, broken TV remote etc). It fits in an odd spot, it's not a hotel but hotel prices, neither is it a top-level b&b due to the smallish room size, personal touches and busy road location (not the fault of the venue at all and known in advance).

Excellent is not good enough , I arrived late just before 2200 , had a meal , several beers , all Superb, then it was discovered I had booked for following night , was I dumped , not at all, Staff got me inn to another Group Hotel , even gave me a lift so I didnt upset Norfolk Plod . The new place was also great . I cannot thank staff enough , service brilliant , food exceptional , staff totally brilliant . There is not a word good enough to say what I feel about this establishment!!!

The room in the attic was a bit smaller than I'd have liked but comfortable. The wooden framed window let in a lot of road noise despite being double glazed. Possibly as the frame had likely warped, so not making a good seal and keeping sound and the draught out.

Location was good insofar as I was visiting someone in Horstead. Staff were really friendly and welcoming and very helpful.

Being beside a busy main road meant that there was quite a lot of traffic noise: my room faced the road and in the evening and morning the noise was difficult to ignore. The lights in the corridors leading to the rooms tended to come on slightly too late - in particular there were a couple of shallow steps on the 1st floor which were not always easy to see.

Great location for us visiting family in the area. Only 15 mins from Gridserve electric forecourt which is a bonus as we have an EV. Amazing food, large portions and our dog was made very welcome too! Very comfortable bed with good quality linens. Powerful shower and underfloor heating in bathroom was a nice touch. We will definitely be back. Thanks to Nicola and all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable

Very attentive service throughout. The room was larger than expected and very comfortable, with a spacious, modern and perfectly clean bathroom. The room was initially set up as a double when we'd requested a single, but that was quickly rectified. The evening meal was great - watch out for the large portion sizes! - and the included breakfast had everything we needed.

The only downside was having to wait for dinner, because we hadn't booked and they were busy - so that was our problem, not theirs :) And the overly-warm duvets, but apparently most people like those :/

Excellent stay. Smallish room but had everything you needed. Bed and bedding really comfortable. Great bathroom. Everything very clean. Room overlooked quite a busy road and you could hear the traffic in the morning but it didn’t really disturb me. Staff throughout the whole establishment were superb, from check in to bar and restaurant staff. I didn’t eat in the pub but I watched service going on throughout a really busy Monday night and it was seamlessly efficient, as if it was choreographed. Everyone knew exactly what they were doing. The fact it was packed out on a dreary Monday night in April is testimony to its popularity. Breakfast was also excellent. Quality ingredients, great coffee and juice.

Don’t need all those cushions on the bed! Bedside tables set back so not really practical. Minor little th8ngs that didn’t detract from the overall stay
