Lovely hotel. Beautiful setting. A great location for york,,leeds & harrogate . Our standard room was tastefully decorated, spacious & clean. The food & service was excellent in the lounge. The breakfast & service e was excellent in the restaurant. All staff were friendly & efficient We will deffinately return &would recommend.

The only thing for me was having to go outside to reach the restaurant . I understand it might not be possible to put an entrance from the inside but a canopy over the stairs might be an idea. Besides not wanting to get wet when dressed up for dinner I also feel it would be easy to slip on wet steps.

The property is amazing , it is Historic Building with a history going back generations and is located in total countryside (in fact our room overlooked the adjacent farm buildings , so close were we to our rural neighbour!)

It was raining and a few minutes walk to the main castle from where our room was locateded in a wing, Slso on arrival ,we parked in the ‘visitors parking area , a long walk with our cases to check in - the guest parking for our building was full . Otherwise everything was as expected and up to standard. No complaints.

Amanda was absolutely incredible and made what had been a rocky start to our day really special. The room we were allocated was excellent, the hotel itself was a joy, the library with fireplace was wonderful and the grounds were lovely. We enjoyed the meals too and the lounge area. We heightened our stay with the extra activity of axe throwing, which was a lot of fun.

The spa being closed. One of the reasons I had booked the overnight was to use the spa and it was sad that it was closed on a Tuesday, so we didn't get chance to use it. Booking.com also does not make it clear that a standard double is only showers, not baths. It would be worth making that clear for future bookings.

The castle, stunning place steeped in history it's grounds and lounges with log burners are stunning. Our bedroom suite with 4-poster was exceptional. There was loads of hot water and great shower. We also booked a spa treatment and the spa staff were great and made it a lovely experience. The spa doesnt have a hot tub or pool but I was told this prior to booking.

Sadly the evening meal let the experience down., The food was great quality and well cooked but due to the restaurant space itself, it was very draughty with the external doors being left wide open. it was also cramped and noisy. We should have ate elsewhere.

The surrounding settings were beautiful and staying in a castle which is obviously so so cool! The fireplaces are incredible and grand and the internal renovations have been done tastefully The rooms were really big and the bathrooms were fantastic Breakfast was actually really good especially the bacon 👍 Staff were friendly!

The drive way into the castle could really do with the bad potholes filling and the large hump as you get on the main track smoothed out but I do have a feeling the sat nav wasn't taking me through the right way. But if you have a low vehicle definitely be careful 🤣 Only criticism is would of been great to have the place explained on arrival where facilities are etc apart from that lovely stop off on my journey and I would love to go back!

Amanda on reception and Lis the General Manager plus all the staff went out their way to be polite and helpful. We were treated with the respect guests used to receive in days gone by, not over the top but genuine. All the staff were interested in their job and providing their service as a vocation not a ‘fill-in’. Well done to all their trainers. This comes from the top, well done Lis. And the food - A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. The quality and cooking of the Hake we had for dinner was off the chart. We had never heard of this hotel but will certainly be back

Lengthy walk from car park to reception (no problem unless raining when you could at least drop off all passengers). No lift but a magnificent reception staircase worth climbing even if there was a lift.

We loved the building. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Loved the history of the place. Loved the site, the woodland, the easy parking, the fireplaces, the restaurant, the food were all super nice. Loved the old stone staircase in the under stair cupboard ... that should definitely have a glass surround so you can see it at all times. Gorgeous historical feature. The staff very kindly gave us a bottle of fizz in our room on arrival as they knew it was a special birthday trip, really kind.

The bedroom was very dusty. Anything above head height hadn't been cleaned in months. The four poster bedframe had a layer of thick dust on it, the bathroom WALLS had clumps of dust on them, the picture frames, and all wall mouldings were very, very dusty. It's a Castle and I don't expect the same cleanliness as a normal hotel, but jeez, it was a lot of dust. The mattress could be improved too.

Stunning castle hotel, lovely rooms and bathrooms which have been brought up to date. Amazing location. Would love to come back and visit for longer (we stayed one night as a stop off) and in the summer to take advantage of the secret forest and other facilities. Breakfast was great - you can order a cooked breakfast and there is a good variety of continental options. We stayed with a dog and had enough room in the room for his crate which is great.

Nothing!

Peaceful, historical and very scenic

Check in was atrocious. Supposed to be 3pm on wards, however, we were told at reception that due to a wedding fayre earlier in the day the maids had to confirm that the rooms were appropriate to check into. Fair enough I thought but 20 mins later and we still weren’t checked in and a member of staff thought she was particularly clever by saying that ‘ It does say check in is from 3pm!’ Attitude wasn’t great, no apology or an alternative due to their lack of organisation and execution of the cleaning.
