Met Ray & Ann in the garden, and from that moment on they could not do enough for us. Ray took our bags to the room and got us settled. The cottage is set in lovely grounds with walks around the grounds. Breakfast, OMG if you go hungry it's your own fault, Ray was keen to cook things to your taste, and make sure you had everything you wanted. Ray was knowledgeable about the local area and was very helpful guiding us around. All in all, great place, great host, great location. A very enjoyable break, will definitely stay again if heading back down the west country. Thanks Ray & Ann

Prior to our stay we sent over some enquiries and received very prompt and friendly replies with helpful information (follow Ray & Anne's advice about satnav directions). The cottage is set in a tranquil location, easy to find, with parking on site. We were greeted by Ray who showed us where we would have breakfast the following day, and then to our room which overlooked woodland from the side window and the wooded bank and treehouses to the rear, with bird feeder hung over the Juliet balcony. We were going out again to meet family, and were given the front door key for access later that evening. The room was comfortable, clean, and peaceful, with great facilities including a kettle, large mugs, cafetiere and fresh coffee, plus instant coffee, a variety of tea, and biscuits, plus fresh milk in the fridge on the landing. The mattress and pillows were comfortable, though the bed was a little creaky : / In the cosy breakfast room there was a lovely woodburner. Ray provided a superb breakfast, absolutely delicious, with more than we could eat which set us up for the day ahead. We would highly recommend Kingsley Cottage, a wonderful place to stay.

The only slight issue was a creaky bed, although perfectly comfortable for sleeping : )

Wonderful and beautiful place! The hosts couldn't be more friendly and they really make you feel welcome. The little details like the fresh flowers in the room, the welcome present, the chocolates, biscuits, tea and coffee in the room (even fresh milk!!) really make a difference and makes this place extra special. The breakfast is very good and plentiful with a lot of different things to choose from. The surroundings are beautiful and we loved the fact that there was birdfood outside of our window so we were able to enjoy watching the birds eat. Ray and Anne really went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible, which we are very grateful for. We 100% recommend this place!

We loved absolutely EVERYTHING!!!

I struggle to find anything negative to say about this place, it was a wonderful find and we will definitely stay there again when we head to Devon. Ray & Anne were amazing hosts, very welcoming and friendly. Ray cooks the breakfast and I must say that it was one of the most substantial and tasty breakfasts we've had in a B & B - the food just kept coming and when we couldn't manage the croissants, Ray provided foil so that we could take them with us to snack on later! Nothing was too much trouble, we had a tea & cake welcome on the first day, cases were taken up to our room and taken back to the car on departure, the room (Riverview) was beautiful, comfortable, very clean and had a Juliet balcony overlooking the river. There was a mini fridge in the room, which had a fresh pint of milk in it which was an unexpected extra. The bird feeders outside of the balcony were constantly populated by various birds and the occasional woodpecker, which was fascinating, and there was a handy guide in the room to identify which birds had visited. Highly recommended for a short break in the Devon countryside.

Parking could be a little tricky if other guests were parked in front, but Ray was quick to ask the other car to move. Our bed was a little low & soft for my Husband, so he struggled a bit - it was perfectly fine for me though!

The idyllic home is nestled in the quiet village of Black Torrington, Devon. We were greeted on arrival by our hosts Ray and Anne who helped us with our luggage. The accommodation was very comfortable and immaculately clean. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the squirrels and birds in the morning and especially enjoyed the excellent full scale English breakfast cooked for us each morning! We cannot recommend Kingsley Cottage enough.

Nothing.

The hosts Anne and Ray where extremely kind and hospitable. Nothing was too much trouble such as asking for a fan in the morning and it waiting outside my door when I got back from a nearby trip to Bude. The breakfast that Ray made every morning was perfect, done to order and set me up for the day. The decor was very tasteful and all those little things (door hooks for coats, plenty of space for clothes, shelves for makeup etc) where provided like home from home. The place is idyllic. I slept right through every night( good for me) The place is near to beaches and nearby villages are good for local pub food and a banter with the locals. Highly recommended. I would love to stay again in the future.

'Old world' cottage with modern extensions and interior. Efficient 'Check-in'. Luggage quickly moved to our room by owner. Welcomed with tea and cake. Adequate storage space, wardrobe, drawers, etc. Comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice. Wide variety of cereals, yoghurts, cooked breakfast items; and offers of further options.

Breakfast table was 'cluttered', though in a good way; a bit like a chess game in accomodating all required items on the table. Paths uneven. Difficult vehicle access onto road.

Host so helpful and friendly, breakfast hearty and healthy, place tranquil and calming. Water was beautifully hot and super cold (great if you like a cold shower)

Can’t walk anywhere must be in a car to travel safely- although this can’t be helped and if you have a car it doesn’t matter.

Fabulous location beside the river. Lovely spacious room with great ensuite. Ray was very thorough and attentive. Greeted us with a cup of tea and cake in the garden. Explained all the details we needed for the room and getting around. Made sure we had everything that we needed. Assisted with our need for directions etc. Cooked two v different breakfasts with every attention to covid safety. Loved the bird feeders on the window and the eclectic mix of cats and the incredible treehouse project.

Can't think of anything that wasn't just lovely. Didn't want to leave!!

The location of the B&B was stunning with great gardens and walks right from the door. Ray and Anne were extremely friendly and had great local knowledge suggesting a multitude of things to do. The room was very clean and tidy. The location was very peaceful and the village pub was great as well. It was such a nice place to recharge and relax for a week. Breakfast was tasty with a really good selection of cereals and fresh, warm pastries. I would recommend the B&B to anyone who wants to have a relaxing break with easy access to places like Bude and Oakhempton.
