Linda brought croissants every morning, and there was plenty of coffee and tea in the kitchen. The accommodation is a former cave, but considerably smartened up and artistically decorated. We have never seen, or stayed in anything like it. Despite being a cave, it was neither damp nor cold (in mid-November) but warm and dry. On the photo, look for the house with steps in front and two people holding hands near the top, slightly to the left of centre. That is Casa Linda, the entrance is round to the left.
The Sassi area is very hilly, so be prepared for some strenuous walking... though there is a small shuttle bus stop nearby, which we used when we left, to take us back to the Trenitalia bus stop. I think it was stop number 5 near the accommodation. I think it runs about every half hour during the day. When we arrived (by Trenitalia bus), we walked, and it was a very enjoyable stroll, mostly downhill (and down stairs). It would have been more difficult with heavy luggage. It is a bit tricky to find; search for Casa Linda, not the street address (which takes you to the wrong place), on Google maps. There is a small, inconspicuous sign by the door.

Casa Linda really exceeded my expectations. It's larger than the pictures suggest, consisting of a large main room with kitchenette on the main floor and a second, large bedroom, bathroom and separate shower room on the lower level. Since the property is largely burrowed into the soft rock of Matera, it is exceptionally quiet. The bed and pillows were high quality and extremely comfortable. The bathroom and shower rooms are a work of art, covered with a beautiful pebble mosaic. The property was perfectly clean and everything worked perfectly well except for the kitchen faucet which was a little slow. The only thing I would comment on is that there is little light since the property is largely subterranean, but that's a compromise worth making for the experience of spending time in a Sassi cave dwelling that's as beautifully appointed as Casa Linda. I'd anticipate this would be a limitation of most Sassi cave dwellings. The property is located centrally in the middle of the Sassi (old town) with several excellent restaurants and bars within 1-2 minutes walk. It's about 5-7 minutes from the main square Piazza Vittorio Veneto, on Via Fiorentini, which is one of the main thoroughfares through that part of the old town. I say 'main thoroughfare', but Via Fiorentini is still a single-track road that's largely given over to pedestrians with the exception of the odd small car or delivery van to the local restaurants and bars. By no means is this a noisy main road. Linda was an extremely gracious host and provided excellent local advice.

It is a cave..!!! Linda, our host was very nice and helpful, gave us clear instructions about traveling around Matera and even in Puglia. Even in the peak summer outside, Linda’s cave house has a cool micro environment which even doesn’t require a fan (It is really exciting to experience the transition in temperature as you move from the living space to the bedroom). The entire house is sooo beautifully maintained and decorated. Don’t miss the stay in this cave house if you are visiting Matera, a city which is well known for its ancient cave settlement.

The location was perfect, The house was very clean and beautifully decorated with incredible arched ceilings. You really feel like you’re sleeping in a cave. Linda is fantastic, friendly very helpful and gave us great info of Matera. Would recommend it to all and will go back.
The water pressure in the kitchen sink is not very good. Made it hard to wash dishes.

The breakfast was perfecto! Linda even brought fresh croissants in the morning, the apartment was in a wonderful location, beautifully historic location! We ate dinner directly across the street! Linda’s attention to detail in the apartment renovation was authentic and artistic, overwhelmingly beautiful. Comfortable beds and crazy shower! Thank you Linda for a memorable experience in Matera!

The room was very well decorated. The atmosphere of a cave was impressive. Nice and spacious shower room with good hot water. Alberto, the host, extremely friendly, helping us in all aspects, even driving us to the garage Vitória.
This observation doesn't detract from the quality of the place, but the breakfast deserves improvements. There was just the basic, even there was no milk no cereal. If you don't mind about the breakfast, it is a marvelous place to stay.

Fantastic property in a very typical Sassi cave like style. Wonderful shower and bedroom and fresh croissants delivered warm for breakfast each morning. Great location in middle of old town and owners are delightful and helped quickly with any questions beforehand.
