Excellent position lovely staff our 2 bedroom apartment was perfect for the 4 of us , could have fitted more in as there was an extra bed, 2 toilets which was handy very clean warm and comfortable spotless bedding and towels big fresh smelling 8rooms self catering facilities fine although we didn't need to use them much as we'd already eaten in the evening and had a great breakfast in the hotel next morning we booked it in advance so got very good value for money

Hard to fault as long as you accept that this is a VERY old hotel spread over several buildings dog friendly and in a "walkers" area of the country so yes, some of the carpets may be a bit stained (but no smells) and they can have issues occasionally with heating and hot water and general fabric of the building but they are doing their best to keep on top of it all and any issues are quickly resolved the staff and management must work VERY hard to keep it all up to standard 😀

The location, the staff, the breakfasts and the general feeling of home comforts at this lovely traditional Cumbrian hotel made this a more than perfect trip. I had read some very negative reviews of the hotel rooms and apartments and can only assume that whoever wrote them had unrealistically high expectations. I have worked in the travel industry on almost every continent for more than 40 years in a huge range of properties and I have now added this property to my list of favourites! I also want to thank Howard for all his advice and help.

At some point some cosmetic work on the hotel's infrastructure will be needed - but whether this happens or not I will definitely be returning to this property.

The staff are always helpful and good-natured and make us feel very welcome. The walk down to the lake is a joy always but at this time of year it's amazing! The path is deep in a sea of fragrant Meadowsweet in an area of unspoiled wetland that holds a variety of birds and butterflies; first thing in the morning it's a joy.

We've been coming several times a year for the past few years and the new breakfast arrangements are a mistake. There's nowhere to put your plate down while you help yourself to your bacon and eggs; the big step to get to the buffet is a health hazard for disabled guests; tables near the door are constantly in a draught as people come and go. The poor serving staff are constantly trekking backwards and forwards to the kitchen which is so much less convenient. This little area with its pool table was always a big hit with teenagers and gave them a bit of their own space. I don't know who thought up this change but they should be made to come in November and eat their breakfast near the door ... please could you let me know when this happens because I'd like to come and watch!

The location was second to none, a two minute stroll to the end of the garden and you're on derwent waters, if you're lucky to have a lakeside view it's phenomenal. The staff were all lovely and very helpful. And your puppies are welcome, although we didn't take ours. 10 minute drive to amenities in Keswick. Very close to Buttermere and the notorious Newlands Pass and Honister Pass, water water everywhere I'd deffo go back. Lovely little garden too, i bet it's stunning in the summer.

The beds were so hard, and I stayed in two different rooms whilst there. It's a little outdated, but apparently it's up for sale and the owners aren't spending any money on it, so it was also cold as the heating was either off or broken, but the staff brought us blankets, It needs some money spending on it, damp patches and dated decor. But it could be an absolute treasure trove. The staff make it what it is xxx

Staff was very kind and friendly, location was perfect for us (close to town but not too close either), our apartment had issues but the staff was kind enough to move us to another apartment in no time, overall great time. Dogs were welcome so that is a super big like for us.

Feels a bit dated overall, which is not such a problem now but over time it will become an annoyance. Some of the appliances did not work (again not a big issue but these are expected to be a basic). Property is doing some renovations, so hopefully this is already on their minds.

Sue, who worked in the dining room and conservatory bar is an absolute diamond of a person, so warm and welcoming - constantly on the go but never too busy for a friendly word. The hotel itself is a faded beauty, it could use a little love but what's there is clean and tidy. Bed very comfy, hot shower and great food. Good value all round. We'd go back just to see Sue.

Amy on reception was less welcoming - abrupt doesn't cut it. The TV in our room didn't work, the coaxial cable was frayed so no signal getting through. We went down to reception a couple of times, even rang the bell - no one available. Wasn't a big deal but would have been nice to watch a bit of TV if we'd chosen too.

The hotel was in the perfect location to explore the Lake District and it had a beautiful garden with views of Derwentwater. The apartment was quiet, the bed was very comfortable and the bedroom was spacious and had plenty of space to put clothes and personal items away The lounge/dining area was also comfortable and relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The shower cubicle had seen better days and looked like it had broken and been fixed on a couple of occasions. It leaked water over the bathroom floor (I have informed the hotel). The kitchen, which was a good size and had all the necessary appliances, was ill equipped for self catering. It had 1 teaspoon and random crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils and pots and pans. The lounge/dining area lacked cushions and would have benefited from a lamp. For the money that I paid, I would also have expected a welcome pack (tea, coffee, sugar, milk and information about the hotel facilities and the apartment appliances) and toiletries (at least hand soap in the bathroom). Small touches that would have elevated the experience.

The staff were all absolutely lovely, from the warm welcome from Pauline on front desk reception, to friendly duty manager, barman and chef Paul, and cheery Albert on bar duties. Our favourite star was Sue, bustling, busy, smiling, happy Sue, a fantastic staff member, who always had time for everyone, always met us with a genuine greeting. Staff like these make it a pleasurable visit and certainly a reason to revisit.

Our room and bathroom were a little tired and could do with fresh silicone around the bath, a new toilet roll holder and a shower with more pressure. Having said that, it will not put us off from visiting again and the room was clean and tidy.

The location was perfect, the gardens, lake and the grounds are beautiful. Lots of lovely walks from your doorstep. The gentlemen who checked us in and out was really friendly and helpful. We stayed in Glamara Cottage which was the cosiest thing ever. Spacious enough for a family of four and a dog. Gorgeous upstairs bedroom.

There is no kids menu at all or kids fresh drinks available. There was a pizza menu but no pizzas available lastnight as there was no cheese. We had to walk down to the local pub which wasn't ideal as we were all absolutely knackered and it was pitch black. But, it is what it is. The kitchen by the boiler cupboard smelt of wee. The bathroom is directly above the kitchen, the man said he will ask someone to check it out. He asked could it be off previous dogs but i dont think it was. When the heating kicks in of an evening the kitchen smelt really bad.

After reading some reviews, I was concerned, but on arrival, those concerns were unjustified. The room was large, warm, clean & all I needed. Staff were lovely & made me feel welcome. Food lovely & reasonably priced. Pizza yummy. The Garden area (pic 3) is very spacious, and it's great to sit out after a day hiking. 15-minute walk to Keswick & buses serve very reliable routes to many great places. Must see Derwentwater sunset, stunning, Honister & Buttermere the route is so scenic. Bus stops 1 minute walk away, but they don't run late in the evening. I was lucky to have beautiful weather, especially for October! Felt safe at all times.

Happy with everything, but if I had to say anything it would be for someone who doesn't drive, however this isnt the hotel's fault, but being an older female solo traveller, the walk back to the hotel is across the cumbria way so very dark. However, davies taxi was only £6:00 from Booths.
