Lovely room, nicely decorated. Good hot and powerful shower. Comfy bed. Clean. Parking for my smart car round the back but would be difficult to squeeze in a larger car. Pub downstairs was very nice and cosy, good food. Pretty location and beautiful views from our room. Dog friendly. Kettle and tea making facilities and the TV in the room were a nice bonus.

Quite young staff on the bar who were a bit inexperienced/not really switched on, but overall good service and older staff were great when we did interact with them. Need to order well before kitchen closing time if you want food, breakfast also wasn't available until quite late (not an issue for us). Pool table has seen better days especially the cues which were missing ends. Doors locks were fiddly and difficult to use on the rooms. Noise from the bar until closing time, although this didn't really bother us, but if you were wanting to go to bed early it could be a bit loud for you.

We were in "Y" room. Staff were amazing, very friendly, couldn't do more for you. Check in is at the pub area downstairs and they helped us get taxi info and for another guest there for the same wedding. Breakfast was good but we paid extra for that. No sound from other rooms, big win. Location is good, street parking outside was busy but we managed to get a spot and it's all free I think. It's a lovely village in North Yorkshire so what do you expect. Decor is nice too. Mini fridge, coffee making facilities all good!!! Co Op over the road if you needed supplies but they serve food at a good price downstairs too.

We had the garden view, it's a bit hot with summer approaching and we couldn't keep window open at night due to an aircon unit going off (i think?). Wasn't a huge issue but just be aware in summer months, book a road facing room perhaps (probably minimal traffic noise at night) It does get a bit noisey into the evening as its above a pub that plays music/TV, but it didn't bother us - I'm only putting this here to make others aware of it.

My daughter lives in Castleton and I booked in for some Business and pleasure. The Downe is a great pub with really great staff and atmosphere. We had a tremendous meal on their special price menu which was really nice and excellent value for money. This is a great pub with great character and wonderful clientele whom we were able to drink with late into the night, (thanks to a very accommodating bar manager).

There was nothing I didn’t like. I was able to work from my room, connected with flawless Wi-Fi. The view over the Moors to Blakey Ridge was lovely.

Fresh cooked poached eggs, with deep orange (that's as they should be) yolks, perfectly soft and on granary toast. If you know your poached eggs, you need no more. Comfortable bed in a friendly room, with local art on the wall. It is family run, Yorkshire friendly, and they loaned me a plug for my phone cable so I could recharge.

I'm not a great fan of coconut scented bath products, though many are. I'd a little trouble working out how the shower worked but this is par for the course in every hotel these days - the manufacturers seem to aim to confuse. A sign might help.

The location is perfect, especially for walkers and explorers of the North York Moors. Really friendly and helpful staff, lots of brilliant team work, nothing too much trouble. Good choice of drinks, and the food was ace. Very (and we mean very) generous and delicious home made meals at decidedly fair prices. Room was recently renovated, lovely, clean and comfortable, with an excellent ensuite. A very welcoming inn, and one we would be happy to stay at again.

We booked a hotel in Whitby that was three times more expensive and I found it more comfortable, cozy and warmer here. It's very cozy and the bed is comfortable and the view from the window is beautiful.

When you enter the pub, there is a very bad smell, but you can't smell it in the room at all. Tip ;) It would be great if there was a hairdryer and more sugar in the room ;) but anyway, we really liked it, thank you

We could honestly not fault it in any way, the Bar area a little dark but lovely old fashioned stone and wood finishing. Lovely quite place to stay .

Lovely room. Very comfortable, clean and everything we needed. Loved that it had a fridge and a hairdryer. Great value for a one night stay after a long walk to get there. Liked that we were under no pressure to eat in the pub and that it was a relaxed atmosphere. Couldn't fault it and will stay again.

Nothing, we loved it all and will definitely be staying again.

We very much enjoyed our stay at The Downe Arms Hotel. It is a great place to use as a base for traveling around the area. The room was big and the beds were comfortable. The young bartender downstairs was very welcoming and efficient, the meals they serve are huge and good value . Also glad to have the private parking out the back
