Nice house in a Beautiful location.we enjoyed seeing Loch Ness. Fireplace in main lounge was pleasant to sit and visit.

Weather was cold so understanding that is why I did not give a lessor rating. Heat did not work very well in our room, but they did provide a ceramic portable heather that help to keep the room warm. Shower did not work very well when another room was showering water temp would go up and down. We never seen nor met the host during the 2 nights we stayed there. Continental breakfast was not for us with the limited choice but resturant was not too far away for breakfast.

The location is fantastic, tucked away in the woods with mountain view. The breakfast was a bit peculiar as it was left in the room in advance (minifridge and a lovely basket) but it was nice and had enough options available for different tastes. The only downside is that bread/crackers are no provided so we could not have the salmon/ham. Both the room and the bathroom were very big and clean and bed was very comfortable. Mark was very kind to let us know in advance that the road to the lodge would be closed after 7pm so we had the chance to grab some food to have in the room for dinner. We only stayed one night but it is surely a place we'd like to stay at again!

Oh, my goodness! This place was just INCREDIBLE! We’re talking dream scenario here… It was like walking into a Hallmark Christmas (Autumn!) movie. The trust that the owners put in the guests was lovely - Leaving keys in the front door for us to collect and minimising any checking-in hassle. The communal areas in the house were simply stunning and I only wish we’d have been staying much longer so I could have curled up with a book in the lounge area! The bedroom (Mary Queen of Scots, I think) was breathtaking… a beautiful, large and spacious room with classic, yet modern decor that was in keeping with the style of the house. The bed!!! Hands down the comfiest bed we’ve ever slept in - ever! And this is such an important aspect to a stay away from home! Honestly, will be back to stay at this place again… thank you for making our stay so, SO wonderful!

I don’t like the fact that we only stayed one night!! Can I move in please?!

The Lodge is beautifully decorated with lots of character. A large downstairs lounge is available for guest use and has a gorgeous open fire which in winter I would imagine is fantastic. As we were there in summer it was not in use. Our room was also very well decorated with cosy tartan themed cushions and stag wallpaper. The room temperature was comfortable not too hot or cold. The tea/coffee tray was well stocked including biscuits. There was a small fridge in the room with soft drink and milk plus a good selection of breakfast items which could be eaten in the room or taken away. There was a selection of cold meats, smoked salmon and cheese plus jam and butter. Croissants were provided too. There is no option for cooked breakfast at the Lodge. There were some alcoholic drinks available to purchase with an honesty payment option in the room. The bathroom was huge and well stocked with toiletries. Our bathroom had bath and shower. Plenty of hot water. Access to the Lodge is well signposted we found it easily but you do need to keep an eye out for the sign. The driveway is steep and access into the building includes a few steep steps. There is no lift inside but there is only one short flight of stairs to negotiate once inside. There maybe a downstairs room option ?? The Lodge is quite isolated you do need a car and I would recommend researching local restaurants and book in advance. There is a very good local guide info file in the room. I really liked the Lodge and would have liked to stay longer, unfortunately we were only in the area for one night I would definitely stay again and recommend it to other travellers. It is very good value for money and a very welcoming place to stay. We did not meet the hosts but communication by telephone was excellent.

Not a problem for us but persons with limited mobility may find the Lodge access difficult.

What a special place Highland Bear Lodge is! It is a hidden jewel only ten minutes from the town and about fifteen minutes by car to Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness. We felt so very welcomed by Rachel and Mark openness to the comforts of their much loved home. Although we never met them everything was beautifully taken care of without us even noticing someone’s presence. Their fascinating down stairs living room to their main house is open for all their guests to enjoy if you so please. The way they had our room set up, immediately felt special. Very romantic, relaxing and a private getaway. We stayed in the 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' room which was delightfully decorated. It over looked gorgeous lush greenery out towards a mystical lake. I even saw my first golden Scottish colored squirrel on the porch. They offer a hot tub ready and waiting ( with an additional charge understandably) for those who may enjoy an outdoor sock in this very special setting. If once you had arrived at the homestead and then feel you may have wished you’d picked up some alcohol or additional comforts, they had set up a variety of pleasures with an honesty system to pay so there is no need to bother returning back to town for nourishments or an exciting book to read. The’d thought of everything with even yummy nibbles in our room fridge and magically a fresh selection of breakfast goodies replenished daily. I personally loved socking in the enormous bathtub . We both slept so well in the most comfortable four poster bed. This was indeed a highlight places to stay.

It was all perfect.

It's not a hotel or B&B. It's a small Castle with historical style! :-) Not easy to find - SAT Nav lead us to a wrong location - downhill of the lodge. If your Sat Nav also make such mistake - try to find nearest way up to hill, and the lodge will locate on the road end. Host is very nice, in room breakfast include many choice - enough for us (2 adults). Top highlight is their huge and beautiful living room, especially in night. I took many pictures after get permission of host. In the morning, you can enjoy the golden shine and fog on lake, very beautiful view.

Nothing.

The staff were amazing and went above and beyond, the lodge is very beautiful and the Queen Mary room was lovely and spacious.

The location is pretty isolated so getting food and such is quite difficult, at the same time, this is what you would want with such a vacation. It is worth mentioning that we went out for a walk and got pretty far on new year’s eve, we couldn’t find any method of transportation to get back since it was nighttime and it was a long walk. We called the lodge and they actually sent us someone from the lodge to come pick us up. Extremely grateful for the lovely staff

The bed was really excellent and the bedding was high quality. The 2 burner gas hob was great for light cooking, instructions were well explained for the amenities. We loved that we felt like we were in the trees, but in comfort.

Since it rains a lot, it would be helpful to have a small overhang over the front steps as we could not open the upper part of the door for fresh air without water running inside. Screens on the windows would allow for airing the place especially while using the gas hob and shower.

The lodge was beautiful and the rooms very comfortable. The location was idyllic and not too hard to get to from inverness.

The breakfast was very ordinary. It was just two croissants, a pack of Parma ham and a back of salmon, some butter and jam. We had some sachets of coffee and Tesco or quaker oat pots. I think we should have at least had some bread. I think they should have a kitchen in the lodge and some staff to make some hot breakfast especially give how far it is from shops. They should also improve the driveway to the property as it's very hard to drive up the hill to get to the property. They should add some lights along the driveway and outside the property as it's pitch dark after 7:30 and we needed to use flashlights to find our way to the house from the parking area.

Really lovely property, the house looks incredible and is in a beautiful location. Views in the morning were really something! We stayed in the king suite which was on the ground floor. The room was clean and absolutely huge and had a really lovely electric heater/fireplace which we loved. The living room area looked great (although we didn’t really use it as our room had plenty of space!).

There is a low shower over a bath and as a tall couple (5ft11 and 6ft5) this didn’t work for us unfortunately :) Pillows and duvet are both filled with feathers so careful if you have allergies or just don’t like it, as there is no alternative available. There is a hot tub but you have to pay extra in cash if you want to use it (the same goes for wine and beer in the room). We didn’t have any cash on us so had to skip it.
