What a wonderful pub hotel! The warm and welcoming pub/restaurant was complemented by great sized, beautifully decorated bedrooms! We stayed three nights and would thoroughly recommend. The food for breakfast and dinner was superb. The bonus was that they are very dog friendly too! Fantastic all round!
The only problem we had was on Sunday morning during breakfast, as there weren’t enough cups, sugar, milk and all things to make tea and coffee at the table allocated for this purpose in the restaurant and only one member of staff serving, so we were all waiting around the table for clean cups, milk, teabags, sugar etc because everything had run out. Also they served orange squash rather than fresh orange juice.

The pub/hotel is located in a very cute village, the cost is high but so is it everywhere around F1. The food was great in the pub with a few good vegetarian options. There is a cute cat that will show you to your room :) Rooms are big and newly updated, a bit hot however so would love a fan especially for bottom floor rooms as you probably don't want to sleep with wide open doors.
We had a bit of an issue with mix up of keys on the first night, however it was dealt with as best as it could have been. But I believe that maybe this is why they didn't clean our room once, which was a bit of a shame. As we were working at the silverstone circuit, I wish that they had adapted the breakfast hours during this week given that majority of guests are staying for F1 and it all starts at 8am, but so does breakfast. Which meant that we didn't have time to have breakfast once which was a shame. The rooms are updated and very clean, but there was two issues, some mold in the shower that could be delt with some good cleaning, and the door towards the garden didn't lock. The area is remote, so it wasn't really a concern but should be sorted.

Upon arrival we were made to feel really welcome, settled in the bar for a few drinks and nibbles before going to our spacious room.
The only negative was my husband ordered the ‘King Prawn’ Paella. This dish is advertised on the menu with mussels, scallops, chorizo and lemon as well of course King Prawns being the main attraction. Unfortunately there was 2 small prawns some mussels with a couple of scallops in the dish with rather a lot of calamari rings with other strong fish which we didn’t know what it was as it wasn’t listed and therefore over powered the dish. My husband ate half of it as didn’t want to spoil our anniversary meal, my mushroom risotto on the other hand was lovely.

Great location which was easy to get to. The room was clean and spacious. We had dinner in the pub which was really nice fires, cosy log fires and pleasant beer. Breakfast in the morning was equally as good. Nice to have breakfast cooked to order rather than the buffet breakfast.
Not much not to like to be honest about the rooms and stay. The price is high but justifiable.

The room was nice but not that big, although the en suite was quite spacious. The bed was very comfortable, the coffee maker was a nice touch. Staff were generally very polite and helpful despite appearing to be overstretched at times. The food in the restaurant was delicious, we only intended to eat there the first night but ended up eating there every night.
The breakfast was also very good but there were no lighter options, just cooked food. There was no fixed mirror in the bathroom. Room service was unreliable; our room wasn't cleaned on the 1st day, so when we reported it were told we needed to place a wooden fob on the door handle each morning. The 2nd morning we put the fob on the handle but found it on the floor when we returned later that day and the room was still not cleaned! More information re cleaning policy would be helpful. Communications were also a bit haphazard, multiple duplicate emails and a rather confusing email after we returned home saying our booking had been confirmed!

My first stay at The Lion was at a testing time – Father’s Day weekend at this popular venue. I’d chosen The Lion for its proximity to Bicester Heritage’s classic car events – and I’ll definitely be returning. Despite the pressure on staff everyone across all roles and ranks gave me excellent service, including coping with my early arrival, late request for evening meal, and preference for a quite table away from revellers (I’d been driving since 4am). Food service was prompt, efficient and unfussy; good to meet the chef on day 2 and discuss desserts, with a friendly goodbye on day 3. Looking forward to another visit.

The room was very nice, well appointed, the bed was comfortable and the shower room great. The room was off the rear courtyard which was good because we got back late from and event at Blenheim Palace and there were no problems getting into the property. We also had a visit from the pub cat which was nice! We had lunch on arrival (sandwich and a Waldorf salad) and the food quality was outstanding.
The place was understaffed which meant there was a long wait at the bar and the bar staff are expected to do everything: serve drinks, serve food, check-in guests, show them the rooms etc, etc, etc. This was also a problem at breakfast. There was one poor waitress who was literally having to run to keep up with taking orders, delivering them, making coffee etc which meant the breakfast took over an hour. We paid for the inclusive breakfast but there was no info as to what was included and none of the usual help-yourself coffee, toast, fruit etc.

Staff, customer service was excellent, the food is exceptional for dinner (we ate 2 nights as so good!), breakfast choose of the menu and it’s cooked for you. We had a deluxe room, large space, big bed & super quiet. They had a live singer in the courtyard, who was good, it was nice to sit outside after your meal. 10 mins to Bicester Village. Overall, would recommend!
Nothing, all good.

Booked last minute but very nice room. Small (basically bed and bathroom) but very modern and included wonderful coffee and bathroom amenities. Staff was super nice and restaurant accommodated us even without a reservation.
It was hard to take a shower without getting the floor wet (set up of the shower with no curtain/glass?). A couple of the light bulbs were missing in the lamps.

Really helpful staff, great breakfast and excellent dinner. They were very accommodating when we had to change our booking - kudos to the manager. We've stayed several times now to break journey between Durham dales and Portsmouth, and keep going back - very satisfied.
Ask for rooms at the front, if available - the room we had at the back, though very comfortable, had rather a small window. It was also too hot when we arrived, and without a thermostat to turn down.
