It’s been a long time since we stayed in a guesthouse. We were apprehensive to book an overnight stay with a shared bathroom. Since the accommodations in Vik were limited, we took a chance and opted for one night stay at Carina. We were pleasantly surprised how well things worked out. Our room was spacious with comfy bed and crisp white linens. The bathroom was across the hall from our room. There was ample time to shower and use the facilities with complete privacy. It’s my understanding that if you book your room directly with Carina, breakfast is included. Otherwise it will be extra. During the summer, breakfast is served 8-9:30 daily. We’re unable to comment on quality of breakfast, as we had an early morning tour and left before it was available.

Guesthouse Carina was a delightful guesthouse with nice location in Vík. The accommodation was clean, well organised, cosy and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful with a breathtaking view on the mountains. There was also a free parking (that's still practical) and you can also find a lot of restaurants /pub not too far.
Perhaps we would have liked the hotel to be more specific about the facilities in the kitchen. There was no electr hobs to cook for example. It surprised us because we think that's the most basic equipment in a kitchen. Or at least, this should have been written somewhere. You must take this into account.

Stayed in room 205 - big windows and a little balcony that overlooks the town - was bigger than expected and had comfortable beds. Shared bathroom was across the hallway and although we didn't use it the basic kitchen was also bigger than expected. Good location with lots of parking. Little note: we used the blue shoe covers over our boots when storing them on the boot rack so the snow melt didn't drip into our boots.
Not a huge issue, but if you're a light sleeper, bring a little white noise machine as you could hear the movements of other guests coming and going (probably seeking the northern lights).

I usually prefer private bathrooms but had to book a room with a shared bathroom this time due to organizational issues. I didn't mind it at all as it was spacious and clean and most of the time unoccupied. There was a little kitchen area free to use with all amenities. At the breakfast buffet you could make your own fresh waffles, in addition they had the usual bread, cheese, cold cuts, jam, musli, yogurt and a few fruits.
They didn't have any milk alternatives at breakfast, though you can bring your own stuff to keep in the shared kitchen. The location is okay as it's conveniently on Route 1, but there's little to do, see or eat in that area (though I highly recommend the Crepe stall a few minutes across the street!).

The Guesthouse is located at the entrance of the town. It is clean. I didn't have breakfast, so no idea how it is. The public areas and kitchen looked very neat. Our room had a view of the church.
Our room was located on the second floor, there are 2 toilets but no showers; you need to go to the first floor for that. The twin bed was missing a bedside table. No internet. A bit annoying the removing of the shoes or more appropriate, the boots. They also have plastic bags for them if you don't want to remove them but, if you need to make 2 trips to the car and back while removing or putting plastic bags on the boots, well, it can become a little too much.

Location: top! not far from all main attractions of VIK and the city centre. check in and check out: very easy, quick and convenient. room: ours was very small - but we knew, what we´ve booked - since we got the last one. other than that: beds were good. shared bathroom: was totally ok - 2 bathrooms for 6 rooms to share is ok - we never had to wait for anything. bath was very clean and well equipped with toiletries. breakfast: had to be paid extra, but worth the money: very nice, plentyful!

The staff was great! They even looked up weather and road conditions to help us get an idea for our journey ahead. Breakfast (in their lovely dining area) had several choices. Shared showers were on the first floor and were very clean. Our room was large and had a table and chairs and comfortable beds. A shared bathroom was right outside our door. At the front door of the guesthouse was a basket of slippers and blue booties to slip over your shoes if you didn't want to leave them on the rack. The location was also great- right off the ring road and up the street from the Soup Company and Lava Show (wish we had had time to go!), and black sand beaches and waterfalls are not far. I would have enjoyed staying longer!

Our favourite was the common sitting area. Incredible view, stylish and cozy! You can relax or eat there. Beautiful location. The staff was very friendly, laid back and helpful. Our room was fine, right next to it you had a bathroom and toilet. We liked that though they were shared, there were enough bathrooms and toilets, you had no problems waiting. The common kitchen was also good. Many parking spaces. You don't have to necessarily take your shoes off, there are some shoe bags to use. We found this often useful!
It was a little bit confusing, where the entrance is :D They offered breakfast as extra but we found it too expensive. It should be included. Maybe the room could have been bigger (there was only a double bed with a small table and chair) but it was not too bad.

The stay at Guesthouse Carina was like staying over at a friends', or a family member's house. As soon as I stepped in the door, I got homey vibes and my room really exceeded my expectations. My room was on the ground floor between one toilet and one bathroom which I thought was great, and all bathrooms and the toilet were clean and inviting. I did hear people talk outside the door, but not to a degree that it was disturbing me. There was a pair of ear plugs on the shelf, so it seems they are aware that some guests are more disturbed by people talking outside their doors. I hadn't booked my stay to include breakfast initially, but on the day of check-in I got an offer to book breakfast for 1900 ISK, so I did. The breakfast was served in the glass patio, which has a beautiful view of Vik and the black sand beach and the breakfast was really good. I loved the homemade Icelandic rye bread, it tasted like gingerbread cake! If I ever go back to Vik, I will definitely try to book a room at Guesthouse Carina again.

fantastic place. We stayed in a spacious, sparkling clean and comfortable attic room with a lovely view. There is an access to a small and basic equipped kitchen (you cannot cook there but there is a microwave and a kettle to keep you going ) and we were grateful for it :) Its a great option to keep your stay on a budget. However there is an absolutely stunning dining area where you can buy drinks/food if you wish to do so! Or just sit there and enjoy the view. The personel is super nice :)
Its a big guesthouse (feels almost like a hotel) so naturally there is many guests there and you can hear everything they do ;) Better soundproofing would be of a benefit to all, as not all guests are considerable of the others
