Staff were very helpful, Hotel was very clean and well kept. The outside of the hotel, mainly the walls were a bit tired. Breakfast was a buffet and had a wide choice of food. Dinner was included in my rate and was also very good.
My room, 104, had very sqweaky hinges and made a load noise when leaving the room, which would have disturbed other guests, as I had to leave early both mornings. It wasn't obivous how to get someone at reception, if there was no one there.

Excellent location on the southwestern coast of Scotland overlooking the small fishing village of Portpatrick. Friendly staff, nice room with great views. We had a nice dinner at the hotel. The young staff serving were a bit green but were doing their best.
The Sticky Toffee Pudding was too dry. Low marks for that one.

very nice rooms, nice food and friendly helpful staff, good amount of parking and amazing location.
the entrance to the car park has these large pillars, which are too narrow and will prevent types of vehicles from using the car park, needs widening.

This hotel is in THE location in Portpatrick. It is worth paying for a seaview room as you look out over the pretty harbour. The hotel has faded grandeur but now lacks a bit of style and atmosphere. Like many large old hotels, it must be a battle to keep up the maintenance but everywhere was extremely clean and had been freshly painted. We had an extremely good value DB&B rate. Fabulous choice of cooked breakfast. You can walk down the steps into the village and also do a nice walk along the cliff top and see the ferries heading for Ireland. The hotel is extremely dog friendly with a separate dining room for dog owners. Staff were all very helpful.
We had an attic twin room which was quite warm - and we had a dog with us - but we couldn't open any windows, which seemed to be screwed shut. The evening meal was very acceptable for the price we paid, but nothing to write home about. Could have done with some background music in the "dog" restaurant.

Location is fabulous just a couple of minutes walk down the path into Portpatrick. The hotel is warm inside and the communal areas are all nicely decorated and impressive looking. Our room was spacious and had a door leading directly to the outside which we thought was lovely. Our room also had a view of Portpatrick harbour and was very clean. Staff in the hotel are extremely helpful, polite and very attentive. We stayed at the very beginning of January so definitely in low season so got an amazing deal for a 3 nights stay with breakfast and evening meal. While the food wont win any awards, considering what we paid for our stay was more than adequate and the portions were very generous indeed. Overall, we really did enjoy our stay and would definitely visit again.
There was nothing we didn’t like that wasn’t just down to our personal taste and therefore not the fault of the hotel . As I have said, we would definitely visit again at some point.

What's not to like about Portpatrick. Great location for walking no matter what the weather throws at you. The hotel is in a brilliant location for access to the town and the walks. We have stayed here a number of times before and will be back in the future. There was live music and a piper just before the bells, a lovely touch from the hotel.
The Portpatrick Hotel had been excellent on my previous visits. But on this occasion the only thing letting it down was the room. Small double was fine but the lighting was poor, the only ceiling light was at the window and there was a long mirror at the entry door to the room but no light to see anything in it. The other thing only came to my notice because of the extra strength winds outside, the curtains were moving quite a bit and when I put my hand behind the curtains it was freezing cold and freezing flowing wind as if the window was open. I had to use one of the towels to attempt to block up the gaps.

Portpatrick is a quiet and beautiful place to relax and have nice days off close to nature. The view from the hotel of the area is stunning, and the hotel itself is gorgeous and comfortable. I will come back. We enjoyed having dinner at the hotel, the food was delicious and all the staff were very nice. The location is perfect. We did enjoy the costal walks too. The hotel has a bar and playroom area. We did have a few pool games. My husband smokes, and he really enjoyed going out to do it because of the views... sometimes I went with him although I don't smoke just to enjoy watching the area. The silence is amazing, only the sea waves and birds sounds. Amazing.
Perhaps that it wasn't any clean service of the room during the 4 days we were there to take off the rubish and replace the tea bags, or do the bed. But it was ok for us...

The Hotel was set on the cliffs overlooking the idyllic PortPatrick. The hotel itself has retained much of its original charm. The dining room was grand. The bar was cosy. The other guests ( about 10 in total ) were all friendly and the staff went above and beyond to be helpful and friendly too. Full credit to the management for this.
Unless you request your room to be made up it does not get done. There was a small issue with the plumbing but it was not the hotels fault but a poor service from their contractor who didn’t understand the system. I cannot mark the hotel down for this.

Lovely large hotel sitting above Portpatrick. We got an excellent deal through booking.com with dinner, bed and breakfast. We brought our small dog and weren’t charged any extra which was great. It’s just a short walk down to the town. Plenty of free parking at hotel. The food was so good and you pick what you wanted from the menu which normally is a set menu. Apart from the few problems we had listed below we would certainly return.
We had a few problems: the electric blew on the kettle. We asked at reception but no one came up to have a look. We had to ask again, this time someone came up but the fuse blew again and the kettle which we think was causing the problem nearly went on fire. We did get a brand new kettle eventually. There was a mix up with our dinner booking and had to go back into lounge as weren’t aloud to sit in the dining room and wait. The breakfast was lovely but on the Sunday morning it was chaos and had nothing left until more was made. The bar man seems to come and go whenever he wants. No one available at checkout.

Wow those views!!! We had room 1 which had door access straight outside. The weather was fab so it was really nice to have the option to sit outside our room or sit with the door open. The staff were all lovely and pleasant and nothing was too much trouble at all. The breakfast selection was good. Hot and cold choices. Enjoyed breakfast. On day 2 we had an early start to Ireland so missed breakfast. We did say we’d miss our breakfast that morning and could we have something to take with us. .The hotel made us pack ups to collect early doors to take with us. No extra charge and the pack ups were really good.
The bathroom layout was awkward for getting in and out of the bathroom. Very tricky if you weren’t agile. No curtain or blind up at the bathroom window so not sure if we could be seen from the outside. Evening meals were quite expensive and the menu we were given from reception didn’t match the prices in the restaurant. Apparently that was an old menu and there had been price increases. So what we thought was expensive was even more expensive!
