Staff was helpful and chatty, everyone we met was friendly, kitchen had all we needed and we enjoyed spending time in the shared areas. Bathrooms are basic but ok.

The building is quite old which decreases some functionality - windows let through a lot of wind and make noise when windy and rainy outside, you can hear a lot of noise from hallways, and also the blankets and duvets have their best time over. Still - a good value for the low price.

Very charming house with the history which I loved from the first sight! Very friendly and helpful staff who helped me to reshedule my travel plan when the road was closed due to heavy rain. The location is perfect!

Huge humidity (or bad ventilation) in the house that I felt always cold staying there. I understand that is an old house, however, I expected to get warm and dry my clothes after heavy rain outside (I stayed in April, i. e. late autumn in New Zealand). My clothers were still wet in the next morning, they did not dry up during the night. It would be really nice to see more hangers and hooks near beds in dormain rooms and in shower rooms.

I was traveling solo with my infant. The whole vibe at Noah’s Ark is so great. Harry and Linda - the owners - are amazing and the staff has been very friendly and welcoming. I even extended my stay there and had a lovely time there. There is a big kitchen, lounge, and dining space. The location is also perfect. You can make your base there and go for day trips to Franz Josef, Punakaiki, Hokitika, etc. Very close to the i-site.

Nothing! All was great.

The building itself is great - I loved all the period features and quirky decor. Wonderful location, just minutes from the centre of town, the train station, the Intercity bus stop, and a large supermarket. The room felt very spacious and bright. The outside areas were lovely too, with a large garden and a wrap-around verandah. There were washing machines available for 4 dollars (coins only).

WiFi worked well in the common areas, but didn't seem to reach to my bed. There were no lockers in the room.

Lovely themed rooms with stuffed animals 😊, very spacious, clean with great views out the window. The free bike rental service was great as well.

One toilet door, even though you are properly locked, it's very easy open by others from outside. They should change the lock to a hook like another toilet.

A very nice ambience in this historic house, lovely touches with the paintings on wall & each room individulized & colourful. We loved our room with windows on 2 sides where we could soak in afternoon sun. Well stocked kitchen & quality linens. Host took time to chat with us at length - Very much appreciated the ride he gave us to restaurant when there was a long wait for a taxi & we had a reservation.

Basin tap in shower room was loose, but still worked. Not a biggie though.

This was my second time staying here and I'd stay here every time I go to Greymouth. From check in to check out the owners made it a lovely experience. They had a little calm dog walking around. The rooms are super clean and spacious (I got window bed with no bunk attached!!) Location is amazing and the hostel was very welcoming for solo traveller's. Outdoor lawn in the back too, 10/10 place

There's nothing I can think of to give it a bad review

Overall was an amazing experience would highly recommend to future occupants looking at coming to stay here. The owners were lovely and made you feel welcome and comfortable expecially on Xmas they made me feel apart of their whanau. The bathrooms were always cleaned to perfection. The rooms were spacious and kitchen was greatly organised. The piano and guitars for use were an upgrade and just set the ambiance of the whole place. And to top it all off the views from the balcony overlooking the ocean in the distance and the view of surrounding mountains. Loved and enjoyed it so much decided to stay an extra week.

Linda and Harry are really lovely hosts, it was a feeling like family to stay at Noah's Ark :) also the people who volunteered during my stay are lovely - please send greetings to M,K,J,W when u read this :) to Jessie the cat and Cosmo the dog please, too! The place offered a huge backyard, kitchen, laundry, plenty of bathrooms and showers and a nice mix of travelers from all around the world :) The location is great, near to Kings walk, the city centre and rail station including grocery store. I'll definitely come back when I'm in Greymouth again. Love, Ginger x

To leave this place ;o) miss u guys :)

This is probably not relevant to travellers but I loved the novelty of the themed rooms and the meticulous detail going into the decor and furnishings of each room to reflect the theme. I had the Leopard room, and everything from the door stopper to the wall runner to the blankets and curtains were leopards or leopard spots 🐆 the animal murals in each room are beautiful. It’s walking distance from the grey river, Greymouth railway station, supermarket, and several eateries. It was quiet other than the relentless chirping of cicadas (or some other insect I don’t know). You can see the sunset from the balcony on the upper floor. The toilets were fairly clean. Tip: for couples or singles, ask for the Giraffe room - I think it’s the best one with the most windows and light upstairs.

The toilets and showers were small and a little cramped. There were 3 toilets and 2 showers for the whole floor. I didn’t encounter a queue when I was there for one night, which was great. The power socket was far from the queen bed. There was no map given for the area at check in, unlike most hostels along the West Coast.
