Loved this place. Very laid back vibe. Don’t expect anyone to fawn over you for being a tourist in the best way. Gorgeous views of the lake from up on the hill. We had a duplex. It was perfect for our family. The balcony was really fantastic. The lake is massive and gorgeous. The property is a short uphill walk from the Trans Alpine Train, which is a must do if you can.

Not so much the property’s fault, but it was not easy to get out on the water - more of a reflection of Moana’s interest in keeping the town for its locals not the tourist trade. Which we respect, but wish we had known. Probably rentals in advance are possible from Greymouth.

The room had plenty of space. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, we didn't feel out of place. The parking was very convenient, right in front of our room. Even though it's on the main road in Moana, it's very quiet at night.

The bathrooms were very cold, probably due to the single window glazing and lacking insulation. There was also only one shower for about ten rooms, which seemed fine on our off-weekend stay, but in the busy season it could become a headache. This wouldn't have been much of an issue had it been a little warmer, even just through improving the insulation and adding a little heater of sorts. Kudos to adding enough towels to the bathroom though.

The cleanliness has improved! The room has had a recent facelift with new paint and cleaning. It’s wonderful and cosy and tidy and the improvements are noticeable. Always love our stay at the hotel - we stay in the family room every time and it’s perfect for us. The view is excellent of lake Brunner and it’s central located to the water/train station so it’s basically a dream place for us to visit for serenity and peace and beautiful access to nature while being at the hotel means access to hot food, coffee, breakfasts, dinners, fireplace and hot tubs!!!

Would love some coat hooks in the family room for hanging jackets to dry!

Gorgeous family room!! What a treat to sleep and wake up to views like that! We just stayed one night on our road trip - there are only two restaurants and no stores in town, but it’s just 30 minutes drive to Greymouth. Our highlights were walking around the town and walking by the train station down to the water.

The hosts in the evening were not super friendly, but they were very busy, and getting dinner was a little chaotic as we were not aware that we needed a reservation (or that there were only 2 restaurants in town!)

We love the hotel lake brunner. We have stayed twice now booking their budget rooms. The beds are comfy and warm. Bathroom down the corridor is simple but clean and water is hot. On this occassion we were helped with getting a room with a fridge even though I hadn't requested it at booking. The staff are lovely and the pub itself serves excellent food. Simple breakfast but very nice. The surrounding area is beautiful and so it is great for an overnight stop and a little wander around. I think they have rooms with a budget to suit anyone.

Nothing, it's a brilliant stopover!

Buffet continental complementary breakfast was everything we could wish for. Location close enough to the railway station for us to walk . We were offered a ride back but it wasn’t needed. A stunning view of the lake from the front of the hotel.

We realised when handed ear plugs with our room keys that being a Sat night on a long weekend, it could be noisy and it certainly was! Not so much the music, but the very loud voices and minimal insulation - walls very thin, corridors extremely noisy, lasting late into the night. However we accepted that was the way it was, even tho we had a pretty rotten sleep, and just put up with it. We also very much appreciated being upgraded to a room with bathroom . We thought the value for money was excellent overall

The accommodation is inexpensive, with a great view of the lake just across the door. It's also very close to the train station. In terms of dorm rooms, there's ample living space, and the bathrooms are quite nice. The bar's decor is unique, giving the establishment a classical look. They provide maps to help you find your way to your room and parking.

The bathroom drain is a bit clogged, so it takes some time for the water to drain completely. There seems to be only one kitchen in the area, with one refrigerator and two stoves.

It was the best stay during our travel to the West Coast. The hotel is not far away from the beach. The building and rooms were very nice and clean. Staff was amazing. They were extremely helpful and friendly. We we able to move to a more spacious room with an additional bed. All meals that we ordered were amazing. Even my very fussy child enjoyed the food. Everybody was extremely friendly and willing to help. All my crazy food requests were accepted. All three of us were very sad to leave and we are sure to be back next summer.

Absolutely love the people, the feeling of the place, the restaurant, the coffee, the food, it’s all very cosy and love the fireplaces - we finally tried the on side hot tub and it was worth every cent! We were star gazing from the hot tub and saw 5+ shooting stars. For a tiny little west coast lakeside town, it’s everything we need it to be.

Just a bit of mould on the inside of the curtains - nothing else to fault! It’s not the Hamptons but it’s really comfortable for small town west coast travel. We love it here and will continue to come again every year as much as we can.

From first point of contact with front of house to leaving, including quiz night Thursday evening to evening meals, and on leaving. The staff/team made us feel at home and most welcome The studio was well presented, and toastie warm on arrival, the house keepers ensured we had all that we needed for our stay, they were warm and friendly.

The shower head could do with an upgrade, as it was a tad tired. Apart from that we can not find a fault.
