A historic 17th century coaching inn tastefully updated to the 21st century. Excellent dinner and breakfast with all staff friendly and eager to please. One of the nicest places I have stayed, central location, quiet, with car parking and great value for money

I had a wonderful, relaxing stay. There was a lovely atmosphere and all of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The room was exceptional. It was decorated beautifully and extremely spacious with a lovely outlook onto the courtyard and gardens. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice on the menu. Compliments to the chef. The hotel has a lovely ethos and feels like you’re in a small village upon entering with so much character. I’ll definitely be back again and bring family and friends.

Everything was excellent.

The Breakfast Room was good with space between the tables and there was just about enough variety for a 3-night stay. The room was comfortable and the coffee machine was welcome and the towels were substantial but nice and soft. The view was good as the first room I was shown had no view and no character but Leslie very kindly moved me to a different room on the first floor with more light and more ambience which is what I want when I visit an historic building.

I noticed towards the end of my breakfast, as I was going to get my toast, on the second morning of my stay (Saturday 24 August) that not only was there no fruit salad left, and that it was not replaced several minutes later, and no Danish pastries left either. They were not topped up. Also, there were no cereal bowls or small plates available. I was dismayed so the following morning I got up much earlier than I would have done to ensure that I got to breakfast as soon as it was served. I was worried that they would run out again and that there would be almost no choice of food! This was not good.

The staff are really lovely and helpful. I was going to a work related event on the Saturday evening I stayed, so would miss dinner. The manager liaised with the kitchen and they made me up a sandwich and side salad, ready for me when I came in late 👏👏 the breakfast was great too 😋 The hotel has lots of character and history, which I love and is the opposite of a soulless corporate mega- hotel. The location was perfect for me and Oundle is a sweet little town to look around.

My room was rather dated and looked in need of an upgrade but it was perfectly clean and I slept well.

The staff were uniformly polite and efficient. There was free parking, although the hotel is in the centre of the town. The breakfast, served swiftly and freshly cooked, was fair value for the price (£15).

The decor is tired: the fine staircase (said to be haunted by Mary Queen of Scots) has become a depository for a variety of furniture of a variety of periods, and the breakfast/dining room is decorated in a 1970's kitch style. A lot could be done by investing in some genuine C17 and C18 oak furniture, which is available rather cheaply at the moment; and by adopting a coherent style for the pictures on the walls of public areas. The wifi signal in our room was too weak to use.

Breakfast was nice. We asked for avocado and sourdough toast which wasn't usually available for breakfast but the staff went out of their help to provide this for us. Very clean room and bathroom. Lovely and warm especially when temp outside was -2°.

We thought the twin beds were of poor build quality. Felt more like a child's bed as they moved so easily. You could easily fall off the edge when sitting down on the bed as it would just scoot along the floor. Also the pillows were quite hard and a choice of softness would have been an extra touch.

Room - lovely and comfortable. Outdoor area - beautiful. So pleasant to have drinks and, also, breakfast outside.

Dinner on Sunday evening very disappointing. On arrival, the staff member/waiter greeted us by saying that the kitchen was now in-essence closed and that staff would be leaving soon. This immediately spoilt the atmosphere and our pleasure in looking forward to a pleasant dining experience. Had we known of anywhere else we could get food, we would have left. We had booked online and the staff member said that didn't give the right information as it shouldn't allow booking at that time which should not have been our problem. We asked the young girl who took our order if we could have some bread to start - this never did materialise. The food itself was fine but this was very far from the fine dining experience we had been looking forward to.

Beautiful setting and wonderful facilities. The hotel was very well maintained and breakfast was delicious.

During my 2 night stay I was reminded 6 times that as the second bride on 27th that I needed to leave by the back way. While I completely understand that the bride having wedding at hotel should have priority it was a little much to be told this on 6 separate occasions and somewhat made me feel like a ‘b’ bride. And then I even had to ask where the back was as no one showed me. May I suggest that if this situation happens again that a member of staff offer to meet and take the bride to the correct exit and maybe realise that her day is also special. It was the only problem in a otherwise lovely stay and staff were only following orders and were polite.

On arrival we experienced a positive and helpful staff team. We were given details regarding parking and clear instructions on how to reach our room. The facilities for the restaurant were explained and we had a look at where we had booked. The staff were courteous and engaging. Breakfast was great and the team offered alternatives to the menu which helped to increase our already high impression of the venue. Our room was lovely, light, airy and very clean. Being towards the back of the hotel it was quiet and peaceful. The decoration was in keeping with the overall ambience of the hotel. We could not fault anything at all.

There was nothing to dislike.

Love this hotel. Staff very friendly. The location is great. Dog friendly. Can't take the dog into the restaurant for breakfast but was set up with a table in the lounge area which was very comfortable. Breakfast is very good.

Could do with updating a little. Paintwork in some areas a little shabby, as are carpets. Some fabric chairs in the lounge area are stained. Dog friendly but nowhere to dispose of poo bags, you have to walk out of the hotel and up the street to find a bin
