Room was perfect for a solo traveller. Even had a bath as well as a shower. Lovely view of bay from window

Room above sounded like a herd of elephants in there stomping around or maybe moving furniture about? Then outside my window (1st floor) were chairs and tables where smokers congregated so could hear them until at least 1.50am, then elephants were back in room above at 4.15am (different guests maybe but seemed a late check-in or return from being out as doubt there's a nightclub in Lynton!). After a 20 mile hike I just wanted a decent night's sleep - even my ear plugs didn't help. Not hotel's fault mainly inconsiderate guests. No parking available but price of room with addition of paid parking still cheaper than alternative hotel. I did book extra night in hope of getting parking but that didn't work but at least I could start my hike at 7am.

The breakfast was great Staff very friendly Room a good size and clean

The outside space is a mess we had a sea view but that was more a tree view with an overgrown garden The windows, paintwork and carpets need updating especially the windows- looks very old and tired

1) The location is perfect and the building is very grand thinking about all that has taken place there before in terms of entertainment and people who have stayed before. 2) Staff are helpful and they do all they can to make your stay enjoyable. 3) Work on the garden was good to see (hopefully small steps to make it the less overgrown state of recent years) 🌿

1) Could do with some entertainment in the main areas such as quiz evenings. There is a jazz evening once a month but would be nice to have some more things to keep guests at the hotel in the evenings whilst serving snacks and drinks. Although there is no bar anymore, having guests allowed to bring there own drinks to enjoy is good, but just a little more going on would be nice as it was known as a place for just that 🙂 2) Some minor room issues R62 - bathroom taps were stiff to turn on/off and water pressure low and room window very difficult to open and it wouldn't stay open due to snapped string.

An amazing ornate Victorian building which is bound to look dated. It is still being improved by its new owners. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly The location is perfect for the Cliff Railway down to Lynmouth, which is a good start for walks up the gorges and also for walking to the amazing Valley of the Rocks. A good variety of restaurants nearby (dinner not available at hotel) Hotel car park available (fee payable) Lovely soft towels and plenty of hot water Heating controlled in the room Dining room very spacious with new carpet and furniture Everywhere felt warm Excellent value B&B

Room 36 had no bedside liights You must remember it is a very old building with high ceilings ...corridors are separated by ugly fire doors but the paintwork and carpets are clean. Bedrooms and corridors need some pictures or stencilled pictures on walls

Stunning location. Easy access on foot to everywhere we wanted to go , so didn't use the car at all. Dark sky reserve and it was clear so night sky was spectacular. Plenty of places to eat and our dog loved multiple pet shops whilst I loved the art galleries /shops . Very very dog friendly village and they can go in virtually all places .

Lacks a bar due to new ownership religious views . Why impose this on guests of multi /non faiths I'm not sure . Also won't find breakfast to include bacon or pork as that's out on religious grounds too. Very poor. Where is England heading I wonder

Booked for family weekend away. The hotel was great. For the price we paid for 3 nights. It was excellent. You don't have some things like a phone in the room or bath robes, hairdryer, toiletries etc. But you do get a clean room with tea making facilities etc. Nice & quiet. Friendly staff.. Can't fault it. It's a historic building & you can see that. Yes it isn't modern & some parts may need a refresh. BUT THIS IS A FANTASTIC HOTEL FOR THE PRICE.. Loved our stay.. Also want to note how lovely the staff were (doggies included). Thank you x

The breakfast was good had a variety of foods for breakfast. Glad that it has a lift instead of using the stairs. Room had an extra heater inside to use to keep warm. Room was clean tidy and not long been painted from our previous visit. Rang down to reception and someone came straight to our room and turned back on electric when it when out. Very happy with service. Staff helpful and friendly.. will definitely recommend this and come back...

I booked the wrong room on line it gave me a twin room not double as I put it in , when I rang a doubles were all booked less I payed more to upgrade, so stayed as we was... Didnt like that it wasnt pork for full English breakfast... Cafe's just outside hotel so not a problem... Didn't like restaurant and bar no longer open in evenings, but can take food n drink in your room so not a problem....

Lovely location and beautiful room with sea view. Nice and quiet too. Very clean and spacious. Everything about it was lovely. Our room looked recently refurbished.

Doesn't now have a bar. They still have a bar but it isn't open. Didn't spoil it for us though as there are places to drink across the road. Only served turkey rashers and chicken sausage for breakfast. It was nice though don't let it put you off! Needs serviettes at breakfast for you to help yourselves there were ones on the table but my Orange juice spilt and I needed another so I found some above the cereal and took two to wipe away my juice and the lady saw me and removed the rest which I thought was quite pathetic - people accidentally spill things!!!! The heating switch in our room had a bright blue light shining all night which was annoying but got used to it after the first night.

An old school hotel in a perfect location. with charming external aspect. Clean ,comfortable , great facilities very well run. Breakfast catering staff worked very hard to ensure provision of top rate service and cuisine. The general atmosphere in all communal areas was friendly and welcoming and this cascaded onto the positive experience for guests. Of particular note the reception staff were very professional, helpful and knowledgeable. This has been notable on my part as a returning guest as nothing other than consistency in conduct on their part. In particular the young lady on reception who is always more than helpful and who is as I told her ......"most definitely in the right line of work " such is her positive working demeanour.

There was nothing too not like. I can only report positive experience. I am a,returning guest and will return again.

We overnighted at the Valley of Rocks Hotel during a walking trip and were thankful for a comfortable, restful respite from the trail. Our room was large, with windows facing the coastline. Everything was clean and in good condition; the bathroom was spacious and squeaky clean. The breakfast was generous and tasty. Two things make the VRH special, however. First, the property itself is a wonderful old Victorian building that still conveys the “good life” of a century or more ago. Second is the friendly and helpful staff who greeted us warmly and pointed us to good dining in the Lynton-Lynmouth area. Should our wanderings bring us back to Lynton/Lynmouth, we will definitely stay here again.

We liked everything about the property.
