From the moment I arrived at Hotel Wood Takayama, I was impressed by its modern design and fresh, contemporary ambiance. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and incredibly comfortable—a perfect retreat after a day of exploration. One of the highlights was the complimentary drinks offered from 5 PM to 11 PM, which added a special touch to our evenings. From refreshing juices to soothing teas and even sake tasting, it was a delightful experience that gave us the chance to relax and bond in the cozy lounge. What truly made my stay unforgettable, however, was the warmth and hospitality of the staff at Hotel Wood Takayama. Their genuine care and attention made the experience feel magical, leaving me wishing I could have stayed longer. A truly remarkable place!

Unfortunately, the public bath fell short of expectations. On my first visit, I noticed hair, flakes, and debris in the water, which was disappointing. Thinking it might have been due to the late hour, I decided to try again the next day at an earlier time, but the experience was the same. I ended up leaving after less than five minutes on both occasions.

The hotel fully lives up to its name. Lots of various wooden furniture and decorations are used. The hotel is new, with modern design, focused on wood. You can even smell it in your room. Super great location. There is combini store in the next building. Hotel provides Japanese and Western breakfasts in bentos. There is no bathtub in a room, but there is onsen-like sauna. Additionally I can recommend massage service. Therapist speaks English and really does great job.

There is no coin laundry. Long travellers, keep it in mind, when you plan your trip.

The hotel is beautifully designed and decorated - we particularly enjoyed the large communal room with comfortable chairs. A perfect place to read, write and pause for voyagers! the free beer saké, or tea is a thoughtful idea and makes the hotel more convivial. The staff were all extremely friendly, kind and efficient, speaking also good English. We both enjoyed talking with them about Japan and their countries. The onsen was spotless and very warming and relaxing too. I would warmly recommend this hotel in Takayama! Thank you

Our room had 2 futons and they were very hard for the back, on a little step up - a bit tricky at our age... The breakfast was beautifully prepared for the Japanese version but the western option was also Japanese. Perhaps a proper western choice would be appreciated.

Very Friendly and very helpful staff. Shout out to Ann, Usui, Jun at reception desk-they all warmly welcomed me and my family. They provided info on the hotel, spa room, and Takayama’s points of interest along with a helpful map. We asked Jun to help book a dinner reservation and so glad we did bc it was the New Year holiday, and local and foreign tourists were everywhere around Takayama! We got to the restaurant and were seated immediately! Thank you Jun for your help! Responded quickly to my emails prior to arrival Hotel is beautiful-new, eco-conscious, modern vibe, very centrally located in the old town and about a 10 min walk from train/bus stations The property has a good size hot soaking spa, and nice changing rooms with water cooler and ice pops after the soak! There is a coin operated laundry room for those needing to do a load during their travels; note, the dryer wasn’t very hot and took a while for clothes to dry. The evening drinks service was unique and we enjoyed trying out the different sakes from the area. There is also non-alcoholic beverages (juice, coffee, tea). Rokka was a very friendly bartender at the bar area. We had a great chat with him! Breakfast was an authentic and delicious Japanese breakfast. The staff who took care of the breakfast service were very friendly and took note of my egg allergy.

Amazing hotel in Takayama, great location and super convenient parking (free) in front of hotel. The public bath is great and the free drinks in the night a great plus. Beds bit hard like everywhere in Japan, though very comfortable. Staff is super helpful and friendly. Child chair in common area great addition for traveling with little kid

Breakfast is served in sort of box, Japanese style or ‘western’ style, which is basically not western either. We knew before (read all other comments) but this was not really our thing, for example quite poor quality of rolls / buns. My advice: If you don’t like Japanse / Chinese breakfast, skip it and get something from the supermarket or bakery in town. Rest of hotel is truly amazing.

Fantastic modern hotel - with traditional touches. Perfectly located in the heart of old Takayama close to fabulous Hida beef restaurants. Lovely onsen, super clean with a free ice cream afterwards! Super comfy futon rooms with a platform to make it easier for us westerners to get up off the floor! Washer and drier provided were very welcome after 2 weeks on the road. Comfy seating area with FREE beer and sake from 5pm to 11pm! Even better was that no one abused it and didn't see any drunken or noisy people. Free car parking outside. Takayama is very easy to drive around and perfect location for the mountains and west coast. Amazing value for money.

The "European" breakfast option was interesting, and not very European. We would have preferred to have the tasty Japanese every time but they alternated between days and we had 4 nights there.

Wood Hotel Takayama’s location is very convenient. Tourist attractions are at walking distance. The room is very clean and cozy. After a day of activity people can go to the hotel’s hot spa and enjoy free beer (or other drinks) in the lobby. This hotel is really all around customers. All staff are very friendly and helpful. Because of different personal tastes, there is no way to comment on the breakfast. For me the breakfast is good. Wood Hotel Takayama is highly recommended. I will come back to stay this hotel if I have the chance.

This hotel has such a guest house feel but is beautifully appointed with gorgeous interiors. Very boutique and run very efficiently. The staff is just amazing, especially Arjun who is always so helpful and hard working. The pajamas and amenities are very high quality and the breakfast is delicious and excellent value. Location is right near the old town, less than a five minute walk to all the attractions and 10 minute easy walk to the station. Would absolutely return to this gorgeous town and wonderful hotel.

Onsen was a little small.

Beautiful wood and decor, staff were friendly as easy to communicate with. Nice layout for dining/ common area. Was able to use Onsen with tattoos. Room was spacious and great amenities. Free sake and drinks in the evening and a delicious bento included for breakfast (they were able to cater to my dietary requirements). Great room service and extra padding offered for beds (traditional on the floor) and extra pillows if you ask. Meditation room to use which was so zen. So central and easy to get around and umbrellas to use for the day in reception. Room clothes and socks provided, which is great if you need to do washing. We were only there for 2 days so didn't need laundry service. The hotel provided information before we arrived when I asked how to book day trip to heritage village, very helpful.

My husband wasn't a fan of the bed on the floor and we had 2 single bed but it was comfortable enough and we slept well.

The hotel has a beautiful classic Japanese aesthetic, and strikes a balance between a western hotel and a traditional inn. The staff are lovely. The location is very central for exploring the gorgeous townscape, and there is a konbini next door. Our favourite part of our stay was the free communal cocktail hour in the lobby! We enjoyed hanging out with other guests and watching the Olympics on the big screen. Our double room was spacious and although the beds were quite firm, they were comfortable. We opted for breakfast which was a traditional Japanese breakfast that came in beautiful bento boxes!

Our room did not have a TV in it, which is not really that big of a deal (although our favourite evening pastime is eating konbini snacks and watching Japanese game shows!)
