Hotel Dona Carmen is ideally situated just on the edge of the old town allowing easy access from the motorway and the ability to walk over the bridge into town. The car park was busy but we were able to park under a sheltered area. The rooms are basic and clean with views across the river into town. Pleasant, popular bar in the evening. Ideal stop off when heading North or South. Obvious signs of a popular Summer time outside eating/drinking area to the rear overlooking the river and town.

Sound transmission from adjoining rooms. We were under the impression that they served tapas during the evening but apart from tortilla the menu contained large (and not particularly cheap for Spain) raciones which were too large for two people. We would have preferred a selection of smaller tapas offerings.

Simple and practical for a one night stay while traveling

Staff was a bit harsh and could not help with directions or request to store very small amount of medication in refrigerator for one night. I only asked for a yes or no on this question. The staff did not speak English so communication was a bit difficult because I speak very little Spanish. I will ask before I book a reservation with Bookin.com. Also wifi did not work in the room

Ideal location for us travelling on to Porto as it was just off the motorway. The room was comfortable as was the bed. It had a memory foam mattress and pillow. The bar and restaurant were great. The staff were friendly, courteous and attentive. We even got a jar of homemade honey on checkout. A very reasonably priced hotel that I will certainly use again if I'm down this direction and I highly recommend it.

The location is excellent - not too close to town but within easy walking distance. Not too noisy. Clean and comfortable with very helpful staff.

Breakfast was very basic even for a continental breakfast. Dinner could be served earlier as after a long day on the road, dinner starting at 2030 is a little bit late although I believe this is the norm for the area.

Great location for a one or two night stopover and for walking up into the town. Bedroom had balcony overlooking the bridge and river. Excellent tapas and restaurant. Plus great parking.

Acoustics not very good and can hear a lot of noise from other rooms ie people taking a shower.

Easy access from main roads. Spotlessly clean. Our room had French window and Juliet balcony overlooking river and bridge. Perfect location by ancient bridge and beach on River Douro. Too cold to swim this time, 12 degrees. Short walk to mediaeval town steeped in history. All day tapas were lovely, good price too.

Considering everything else was positive, evening meals were limited and lacking imagination.

Number 1 plus was the fact that the hotel very willingly allowed us to change our booking dates. The choice of lunch time tapas was varied and they and the evening meal were excellent..outstandingly delicious and very good value. A super chef!! We also appreciated the excellent free parking .

The cost of our drinks when we arrived, parched. Dearest gin and tonic in our 4 month stay in Spain. But, the same senior staff member who served us, made up for this, in our view, by being exceptionally attentive and pleasant later on. We would certainly go back.

Lovely big rooms, very comfy. Good shower, provided essentials like toothbrushes and combs. Very good night's sleep.

I didn't like to see the little birds in cages at reception but I know this is a personal thing. Birds should be free.

Clean and lovely location, quiet and good food, would definitely stay again
