We enjoyed our stay at Jaguarundi Mountain Lodge, but the room could have been better equipped for how to deal with the rain and wet clothes, such as hooks to hang our clothes. We also found the noise from the rain on the roof to be a problem, some sort of sound insulation would have been very helpful. The sink was small, and it was difficult to give our clothes a brief “wash” after coming back from a tour in the rain forest, you are WET when you come back, more so than most people would have planned for. The breakfast was excellent, though served in The Fig restaurant, which is above the lodges. A special charm is the little private jungle trail on the property, which is five min walk from “downtown” Monteverde. So, not perfect, and not for everybody, but good value for the money, and we would stay thee if we visit Monteverde again.

The noise from the rain, the lack of hooks to hang wet clothes—and there will be wet clothes.

Staff Alison and Danny were so wonderful. Pointed out the white faced monkeys and helped with the luggage. Suggested two great places for dinner a short walk into the village. Offered to arrange transportation at the breakfast location to save me a short walk to the room. Safe and beautiful.

A mini fridge would be nice , however they did provide ice for my drinks. The kitchen was closed so needed to walk to the sister property however the walk was beautiful and lots of birds along the way made it enjoyable. Second night a couple moved into the adjoining room at the cabin and I could hear the man snoring. Bring earplugs!

Excellent breakfast and service. We walked up the hill for breakfasts and one dinner, and we were able to manage this and it was interesting even in the rain. Receptionists helped us a lot. We liked the forest setting.

We could have been offered clothes drying facilities as we had continuous rain. Before we arrived we tried to get information about guided tours but were only offered the basic Selvatura list which did not meet our needs. Not clear where lodge was sited in relation to the local shops etc but it turned out to be very convenient.

Great location and absolutely stunning surrounds. It really felt like we were staying in the middle of the jungle, particularly with the resident howler monkeys hooting and hollering. Dylan and Manfred at reception were fantastic and made sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast at the Ficus Hotel next door was also a great inclusion.

Our room was a little small to accommodate three people in a double and single. There was no A/C, but a fan was provided as it was a little stuffy on arrival. No A/C needed as it got quite cool overnight. The room was a little dark due to the overhead tree canopy and verandah surrounding the building.

This was an amazing stay that was far better than we hoped for. We were in room 131 which was at the very top of the hill nestled in the woods with a fantastic balcony looking into nature where numerous birds stopped by and we also saw howler monkeys. The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and hospitable and helped us by carrying our luggage up to the room and down again when it was time to leave. As far as the room, the beds were comfy, the shower was nice and hot with plenty of pressure, the space was ample, and the mini fridge was a nice bonus. When you stay at Jaguarundi you gain access to the Hotel Ficus (a sister property) for happy hour in the afternoons and breakfast in the mornings. Being at the top of the hill as we were, it was a matter of steps to both of these amenities, which were wonderful. The happy hour drinks were tasty and inexpensive and we also got a salad and some hummus as an early evening snack. We had some really great conversations with the staff and learned a lot about the property and the town from the local's perspective. Breakfast was equally good, including coffee, tea, juice, fruit, toast with jams/butter, sausage, gallo pinto, eggs, pancakes, plantains, and more. This hotel is close to town, allowing guests to walk to shops, restaurants, groceries, and other attractions. Check out the orchid garden and the Trapiche Coffee tour for sure. We will repeat on our next trip to Monteverde, as we stop in every single time we visit CR. Highly recommended with friendly and helpful staff and surrounded by nature.

The only suggested improvement would be better lighting in the bathroom/vanity area. Everything else was perfect.

We loved the location, the grounds, the rooms and the sister-hotel where breakfast was served. We had an excellent dinner there as well, with a tremendous view and a spectacular lightning show over a birthday dinner. It was a truly lovely experience and great (bilingual) staff--both at the hotel and the restaurant. Everything was very clean and comfortable, and the bathroom/shower was large with plenty of hot water! It is conveniently located to access Santa Elena town and restaurants. Just a short drive to Monteverde, various wildlife reserves, etc.

Parking was a bit challenging. A box breakfast we ordered, because we had to miss breakfast one morning, was not great--I wouldn't recommend that! Everything else was superb.

Lovely bathroom with sime free toiletries, bedroom too was overall great and views outside were lovely. We saw lots of animals from our very own window and could hear monkeys etc! The free breakfast was also outstanding at the neighbouring hotel. The staff were also helpful carring our luggage to the cabin.

Had to walk quite a bit to get to the hotel for breakfast and slightly up hill but the whole town was like that! Also the design of the cabin meant the rain falling sounded super loud and intensified, also wasn't that much space in the room and when we were stuck in there during the rain felt a bit of cabin fever. Wish there was a TV in there.

May depend on which lodge you get allocated. Luckily ours was at the top of the site (top as in very steep climb) but that meant it had brilliant views from balcony of the forest and wasn't overlooked by anyone else. Lying on the bed looking out the panoramic window straight into the forest with the sound and sight of birds, insects and monkeys first thing in the morning (5 am) was a wonderfulo start to the day. We went in low season (early May) so didn't have any neighbours in the adjoining cabin - be aware of reviews that say this is an issue due to lack of soundproofing. Staff were really helpful and there is 24 hour on site security. If you're planning a night tour book the one offered here - it is highly recommended (although I guess that might come down to the guide you get - ours was excellent) Bed really comfortable, best shower we had on our visit (stayed in 6 places). Decent breakfast provided at hotel next door. Located within easy walk (< 5 mins) from centre of Santa Elena so easy access to shops, bars, restaurants etc.

Chairs on balcony were too small and very uncomfortable. Had to use spare blankets for padding. Also a small table on balcony for drinks would be helpful - we had to use an upsiude down waste bin. It was the only place we stayed with no fridge. There is an obvious place to put one under the table next to the wardrobe, which is largely a dead space.

Location and setting were excellent. Walkable to restaurants and town. Staff is wonderful, caring and seek to be helpful. Happy hour and free breakfast are up the hill and very good. Away from road noise. A glamping type experience - more rustic than glamorous. Price was also very reasonable for a high tourism area (good value to the price). Restroom off lobby to change clothes if you arrive before check-in. Shower was high pressure and hot. You can ask for a hair dryer at the front desk. You will want it to dry your hair and the mirror (see didn’t like comments).

Room has no AC or heat and a hot shower makes the bathroom a wet floor mess due to condensation. Walls are thin and you do hear neighbors low voice conversations. Property is on a hill side, so if you aren’t able to walk unaided, you would have a difficult time here. There is no WiFi at the unit. Only a couple of power outlets. It can be cool. Warm night clothes recommended and the spare blanket will be used. Pluses of location and setting outweigh the minuses. If neighbor noises might bother you, earplugs or headphones might help out.

This was an incredible place to stay for our honeymoon! our room was surrounded by wildlife. We loved going to sleep with the sound of the animals around us. We quite enjoyed walking up to the sister hotel for our breakfast and doing the 1km loop walk around the grounds (we saw howler monkeys, turkeys, agoutis and a toucan!). It was so close to town so we could walk in for dinner if we wanted. Reception staff were exceptional - so friendly and helpful!

We would have like the bar next to reception to be open so as we could take a drink back to our room / sit and enjoy a drink there. You can hear the people in the room next to you but we weren't really bothered by this!
