A lovely stay and Bernard and his team could not have been more welcoming; both us humans and our dog were made to feel very welcome. The rooms are a little 'bijou', but clean and recently updated with a comfortable bed, USB charging and and a quality coffee maker. The TV is tiny and could be upgraded, but that's a nice to have rather than a must have. We found the standard continental breakfast great with quality products, especially the ham and cheese and we booked Sunday lunch for 9 people and it was superb. Overall, it exceeded our expectations, bravo.

The only tiny thing we did not like was the cheap tomato ketchup - the food is really good, made with good quality ingredients buy a chef who is clearly great at their job so it's a shame to spoil a burger etc. with cheap, vinegary ketchup - splash out, buy Heinz :-)

Host, Bernard, was exceptionally attentive and welcoming. Service at meals was faultless. Continental breakfast included (with option to upgrade to Full English for £9.95) was good, although a dairy-free oat milk was provided as single portion cartons - 4 needed for cereal. Evening meal was good although there were no dairy-free dessert options. The room was comfortable but had no toiletries- this was quickly rectified on request. The windows could use some upgrading as they are old double glazed units which ran with condensation in the morning. Bathroom was clean with a good shower. Overall, an enjoyable short break.

The owner has obviously taken on a huge task in creating his dream establishment and has started off really well in just a few short months Kept things simple, meals excellent and staff friendly and helpful. On a physical aspect he has aimed at great beds and therefore guarateed a great night sleep. The location is good for passing traffic and we were very impressed by how busy it was and locals seemed to use it too. The interiors need upgrading and areas a bit gloomy at present and we found lighting in the rooms not particularly good. Good idea to simplify costs of everything and pricing realisitc. It will be interesting to revisit in one year's time and see what other improvements have been made. Good luck You deserve success.

Gloomy corridors and no hand rails on stairs

We were met with a warm welcome which continued throughout our 2 day stay. The room was clean and very comfortable. Our little dog stayed with us at no extra charge (we did request a dog friendly room in advance). We had both the continental and cooked breakfast (there is a small charge to upgrade to cooked), both were absolutely delicious, definitely try the homemade jam! We also ate in the restaurant both evenings of our stay and the food was great and reasonably priced. The location was good for us, as we were away to visit Rutland Water which is about 15 minute drive away.

We had a fantastic welcome on Halloween afternoon, we was made to feel extremely welcome and they went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable, the family who run the business and fantastic bar staff were a pleasure to be around. Can't wait to come back again soon. Maybe bring our fur babies next time as they would of been made to feel welcome to in such a dog friendly place. The bed was the best we have ever stayed in and all the room facilities were fantastic. And compliments to the chef who made the marmalade wow that was so nice I will definitely be back for some of that. Thankyou for a great night's stay.

It was all perfect 👌

Bernard and his staff were very friendly and pleasant. Nothing was too much trouble. Continental breakfast was good and the home cooked ham was delicious. Bernard had only been in the property 4 weeks so teething issues are to be expected.

Had issues with heating in the room, radiators did not get very warm. Although when brought to his attention Bernard did up the temperature and they warmed up, not enough to dry towels in the bathroom though, (fresh dry towels were provided upon request). We were one of the end rooms down a corridor so maybe that was the issue?

We travelled with 2 dogs and received a warm welcome on arrival and shown to our room. Our plans had to change due to Storm Bert but the hosts made up for this with their hospitality. Dogs are welcome in the bar area and were given treats by the staff, they were happy to receive fuss from other visitors and the pubs staff. We ordered from the varied food menu which was outstanding, highly recommend the Lasagne. A comfortable and quiet nights sleep followed by the Continental buffet breakfast which was lovely and fresh. Overall, a lovely stay and will return.

Room rate was supposed to include a full English breakfast. The hotel only offered a continental breakfast...which is not good for diabetics. Booking.com needs to be updated. Also the first night I ordered the carrot and parsnip soup. It was like eating pepper. You could not taste the carrot or parsnip. I did complain. They charged me for it and the next morning I was told that they took it off the menu. Also .stairway could use a rai

This was a great cozy dog friendly pub with great accommodation, comfy beds, hot showers ,and delicious freshly cooked breakfast. We also ate dinner there which was lovely.Bernard and his team were so welcoming and friendly. We had a great stay ! We would highly recommend and most certainly would like to visit again. Well done everything was perfect for us.

There was nothing to dislike .. they really made our stay relaxing and friendly and they actually like dogs rather than put up with them.

Our King sized bed was superbly comfortable! The room was clean and the toilet was a little tired but spotless. Heating worked well too and there was ample parking. The overall design of the place was quaint and cosy.

One can hear the occasional traffic through the windows in room 5 but that didn’t bother us too much. Also we were a little uncomfortable with the frosted window next to the bath. A small curtain would have made the toilet more comfortable.
