This is an excellent hotel exceeding its rating. A fine example of the best of English hospitality, it sets a high benchmark which other inns and hotels should be aiming at and which in many cases do not. The staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful and the cleaners do a remarkable job, the inn is spotless. The place is very professionally run. It's a credit to the owners.
There was nothing we didn't like. Parking can be a challenge at times, especially on the weekends but it's a minor matter which doesn't affect our rating.

The Finch’s Arms is a destination hotel for us. It’s a gorgeous property in a beautiful location. The rooms are beautifully done with many delightful touches, including fresh flowers and lovely, individual furnishings. The food was fantastic with cosy, intimate dining spaces and even a roaring fire at breakfast. All the staff were so lovely to us, making us feel welcomed and looked after. I can’t recommend it highly enough and we look forward to visiting again. We’re planning on making it an annual treat for ourselves!
Nothing.

Another absolutely fantastic stay at the Finch's! Hubby stayed here the night before our wedding so he was in prime location to our venue down the road at Halfmoon Farm for morning set-up. We both stayed on the wedding night in the suite (the bath was lush!) It was a really lovely stay, and we appreciated the little note left for us. Late check-in was accommodated to the bridal party staying here (14 of us in total). We also had a huge table drawn for breakfast so we could eat together. The restaurant is beautiful.
Breakfast could do with a couple more vegan options - porridge with oat/soy milk, or some vegan sausages would be good. We subbed out the meat and eggs on the full english for extra beans and toast.

Great location in the middle of Rutland Water with footpaths down to the water on both sides. A very warm welcome from staff on arrival, and great interaction throughout our stay. Rooms are thoughtfully decorated and beds comfortable, and the bar and restaurant spacious and well laid out. There’s a lovely terrace garden, though it was a bit too cool (in early July!) to sit out. Reasonable parking at the front of the property, though it can get full at busy times. Nice touches were the Finch’s Arms biscuits, an umbrella, fan and fan heater in the rooms.
The pub sign is very minimal and it’s easy to drive straight past! Lighting in our room didn’t seem to illuminate any of the mirrors, not least in the bathroom. Parking could be a problem for hotel guests arriving during food service.

Breakfast was very good as was the evening meal. The whole building was lovely with lots of nice touches, open fires and seating areas.
Noise travelled from the dining room to the bedroom a little too easily. You could hear people talking and the background music. It did stop at 11pm so not a big issue as we did not need to get up too early. A bit of history about the building, village and local area would have been a nice touch. The bathroom was nicely done with a lovely shower but it was a bit cold as the radiator was turned off

Excellent stay , think the rooms have been updated from last time we stayed and did not disappoint very good , lovely decor , and all bits and bobs as expected in a room ie teas coffee , toiletries . To really make the full star rating …. Bath robes in the room is a must and such a lovely touch ….. oh I do love a bath robe ! Food ….. dinner ….. Sunday menu was excellent , roast beef cooked perfectly , good wine list and timings between courses just right . Breakfast again excellent not too fussy and something for everyone . Our second stay here and won’t be our last we really like it here and would recommend .
No bath robes !!

Luxurious and olde world atmosphere
There wasn’t a great menu for vegans tbh. We ordered the full English breakfast which they adapted but there weren’t any vegan sausages (?) or spread (?) for the toast, even though the bride had notified the dietary requirements previously which was a shame as there are plenty of options that could be kept in the freezer or used as standard so everyone could enjoy them. We got a mushroom, tomatoes, smashed avocado, beans, 2 small hash browns. Coffee with oat milk was great though but wasn’t available in the room though ☹️

Lovely setting in the village of Hambleton uniquely situated in a special place on Rutland Water. Friendly staff, good bedding and shower, and lively busy restaurant. Easy access to places of interest to visit
Food quite expensive for what is essentially a pub but think paying for the situation of pub and only one in the village. Seems to attract lots of outsiders and as guests we had to book every night even if we wanted just a bar snack. Room missed a clean one of the 4 days we were there but soon rectified.

Staff were so great, especially Liam. Was on top of everything, so kind and really helpful. Room was very cosy and bed was comfortable. Bathroom was stylish and clean and they even provided conditioner!
Room was smaller than expected for a superior, booking.com said superior rooms had garden views but this was actually deluxe rooms when we checked their official website. TV was tiny and signal/internet didn't really work. Couldn't get the radiator to work properly but fortunately bathroom radiator was warm. Also we arrived on a Sunday, they're very busy for their (lovely) roast dinners but parking was impossible till dinner patrons left.

It has the pleasant ambience of a genuine Inn, ie. a pub/restaurant with rooms above. But the room was more recently refurbished, clean, comfortable and well equipped than one might expect in many such places. The food at the evening meal was very good, the choice of beer excellent and there was a decent wine list (although not utilised).
Not their fault but the mobile telephone signal wasn’t great and we forgot to get the WiFi password. Latter more our fault than theirs though.
