I'm an American journalist doing a series of articles on cycling in Portugal and Spain for several American magazines, and always looking for unusual lodging to share with readers. Sleeping in a castle is a different option. Great experience.

Figuring out exactly what type of room you're going to actual get can be confusing. I recommend spending extra for a superior room with view - so you don't get a room with little natural light or view - it does make a difference. And while the hotel tried to provide timely information before arriving, many of the links couldn't be opened on my end. I don't know if I got lucky, but very happy with room I ended up with, with a huge balcony overlooking the pool.

The included breakfast was fantastic and served in a wonderful part of the castle. Dinners there were exceptional and upscale. There is also a cafeteria-bar that serves many of the same dishes as the restaurant if you don't want to wait until 8:00 pm. The setting of this place is simply one of medieval elegance on a property that has a dry moat around it and vineyards all around that. It's a really spectacularly beautiful place. The entire castle is really a museum of sorts.

The property inaccurately advertises "entire unit located on ground floor," which is simply not true, and it is very misleading for anyone with any mobility problems. There are many stone stairways throughout the property that require some ability to negotiate. In addition, the wi-fi is not fantastic. The first room we were assigned had no signal whatsoever, but we were moved to another room where it functioned adequately.

Everything went well once we arrived. The magnificent yet comfortable castle set amongst superb grounds, including vineyards is a sight to behold. Staff very friendly and efficient. Room comfortable and spacious. Bathroom immense and freestanding shower thankfully constructed with 4 walls and a sealed door, so no soaking the floor! Breakfast excellent with wide choice of foods. Dinner includes regional dishes at reasonable price. Good wine list.

Be careful with hotel direction for arrival. The exit they recommend relates to N-630, not A-66. The dining room lighting could be dimmed somewhat to enhance the atmosphere.

We loved everything about the castle. The setting is within beautiful countryside, surrounded by vineyards, cattle farms, cypress trees, and well kept garden. The decor is tastefully ornate and what you’d expect from a historic castle; carved stone and ornate chairs, large portraits and dramatic lighting. The bedrooms are spacious and have very generous, comfortable beds for a great nights sleep. We loved the breakfast too which was a massive hit with our kids who were overwhelmed by choice of delicious foods. The staff was friendly and offered great service. We hope to go back soon.

Super accommodation, staying in a piece of history. Staff were so welcoming. Our second visit on our travels through Spain and it didn’t disappoint. Ate in the resturant and was to a high standard. We had an early departure and the staff provided a small breakfast for us before our departure as we were leaving before the breakfast service was served in the restaurant. So kind and thoughtful.

The area was so quiet and well tended. Surrounded by nature and a vineyard….. plenary of little birds tweeting and the odd noise from the resident donkeys……. But only 10 mins from the main road….. so easy access to get back on track for the road trip to Portugal.

Beautiful tranquil castle location outside of Salamanca with its stunningly preserved 17c history. The young ,energetic and friendly staff were delightful and helpful! Wonderful fresh and delicious buffet breakfast. Gorgeous, landscaped pool area. Good quality amenity products provided and appreciated. Very pet friendly with a water bowl bed and snacks provided! Also areas of the castle (interior courtyard, terrace and exterior) were accessible pets so I could keep my companion with me. I will come back again!

Was the room mini fridge cool enough? I'm not sure.

The whole experience was first class. Right from checking in, to the room, the restaurant and the castle itself. We were greeted warmly at reception and check-in was a painless affair. When we got to our room it was nice and warm with everything required for a comfortable stay. We had dinner at the restaurant which was very good and reasonably priced, along with friendly and efficient service. The breakfast was also very good and had a variety of items from high end charcuterie items to bread and buns, marmalade, cereals, muesli, etc. We would definitely stay here again.

Everything was perfect.

The most unique hotel I have ever stayed in. It did not feel at all like you were in a hotel more like guests of the castle owners. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food excellent. Unfortunately we were only staying for one night as a stop off on the way to Portugal, but would have been very happy to stay for longer. Best use of an historic building I have ever come across.

Wi-fi and mobile reception patchy inside the castle, which is not a complaint rather an observation that castle walls are not compatible with mobile phones and wi-fi

The castle is a dream. It is beautifully and authentically decorated and maintained, flawless, and has an incredible atmosphere. You really feel like you're being taken back in time. Our room was in the basement, which was spacious, clean, had good wifi, and very comfortable beds. The view from the castle is charming, offering great views. I counted 12 storks with 3 nests in my view. Who would have thought these still exist? Until then, I had never seen a stork before, and they were so close by! Also, they had dog bowls, dog beds and treats for our dogs.

Dinner was late, but I guess this is normal in Spain. The only thing that was not up to standard was the breakfast. It didn't offer any egg options; I had to ask for them. There were very few fresh natural yogurts, fresh fruits, or cheeses, and the bread options were not fresh but heavily processed

A really magical place set in beautiful countryside. Lovely to hear the birds singing & an owl hooting outside our window at night. The wine we tried (Pino noir) from the castles own vineyards was delicious. Fantastic friendly service. Lovely dinner & breakfast at the restaurant, lots of local produce including a delicious marmalade.

Internet was sketchy in some rooms & the decor of the rooms, while nice, has room for improvement, eg a headboard on the beds. However, none of these small things detracted from the immense enjoyment of our stay.
