Great communication from booking until leaving the property. The owners have taken great care to employ the right staff who go above and beyond to deliver a personal service without being over baring. The whole team could not be politer and have an extremely professional approach. The room I had was large well furnished, very comfortable and a bathroom you normally only see in magazines. While the pool area is not that big it is set in loverly grounds and the pool was very clean. The food standard in the restaurant was of a very high quality. Ask the team for something and they will deliver.

There was nothing negative to say about this property. If I had one comment it may be to add a tv to the rooms. But this is really minor and during my 3 night stay I did not miss a tv

This place is very special, the photos can't do it justice! It has such a calm atmosphere and you really feel immersed in the character of the building and its surroundings. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, the food was excellent and all this just a short walk away from the Galle Fort. We will book this place again next time!

No fridge in the room (mostly a design driven decision?) as we found this in other places in Sri Lanka too. And the shower water wasn't warm enough, especially on the last day it had turned cold but didn't get a chance to report it as we were checking out.

The property is in such a wonderful location. Close enough to galle fort to enjoy a tuk tuk ride into town in 5-10 mins, but out of the hustle and bustle of the town so you get to enjoy calm and tranquility at the property. The pool is perfect, the staff are so helpful and friendly, even helping us with our two young Children who wanted to eat toast and fruit for supper, and the rooms and common areas are superb. Super comfy beds, delicious food and drinks - it’s a perfect place to stay!!

Just check if there are live events in galle fort when staying. We stayed for 3 nights before new year which meant loud noise until 1am every night, sadly with young children we found this a bit of a struggle but nothing the hotel can do. We just would probably have booked somewhere further away if known.

The house has a colonial history and the theme throughout maintains that style. I personally like the antique wooden furniture and the historic ambiance of a bygone era. The dark wood is counter-balanced by pleasingly white walls and bright decorations. The owner and staff were welcoming and very hospitable and the restaurant was very good, with both Western and Sri Lankan dishes on offer. The barman worked hard to make each local cocktail taste great. Our room was very comfortable with the en-suite bathroom being open-air surrounded by tropical plants. While the cost of a room is higher than average for the area, the quality makes this hotel quite special and a good choice.

The hotel is some distance from the Fort and uphill on the way back, so a tuc tuc may be required for those with lower mobility.

Beautiful house sympathetically restored. Lovely dining area and comfortable sitting rooms to enjoy a drink after dinner or afternoon with a book. Nice pool area to relax. Easy downhill walk into Galle; only 500 SL rupees in a tuk tuk back from the centre of Galle. Good menu and lovely breakfast carefully prepared. Particularly enjoyed the fresh turmeric and ginger "booster" drinks. Staff were super welcoming and engaging.

Our room was on the small side and there was nowhere to put our suitcases other than on the floor. A case stand would have been more useful than the wobbly period desk at the foot of our bed.

Colonial villa perfectly renovated, the atmosphere , interiors and customer care are truly remarkable, nothing to envy to other hotels that may be more expensive and central. This place was meticolously crafted around the ideal stay in Galle, staff was extremely attentive to every need, absolutely discreet,all day dining, we felt so comfortable our 3 year old was going around the place as if we lived there. We genuinely loved it and invited friends to visit for a coffee just to recommend the place.

Really can’t complain about anything, our stay was impeccable.

We LOVED the sun house, even though we have always stayed in really nice places in Sri Lanka, this was by far the best. The location is great, you pay around 200 LKR to go to Galle Fort. The garden and the house itself is beautiful. The food was great, one of the best we had in Sri Lanka. Really good value for money and super tasty. And the staff was simply amazing. There was always someone around and usually we even didn’t have to say anything- when we left the room, they would think of cleaning our room, if we lay down by the pool they would bring water. They remember all our wishes for breakfast (eg no bananas) and we never had to ask for it again. I want to particularly point out the service of Priyantha and Tharindu, they were lovely and always had a nice story to tell or a recommendation to give. Thank you so much for making our stay special

We could not fault The Sun House (we stayed in January). It is the most beautiful hotel we've ever stayed - absolutely stunning. We were upgraded and our room and bathroom was gorgeous but we are in no doubt our original room would have been too! Every single detail was charming. The hotel is in a tranquil hilltop spot, peaceful but easily walkable to the centre and the Fort area. So many lovely places to sit outside with a drink, stare up at the trees watching the monkeys or listening to prayers drifting over the city. The staff and owners were so welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed at all times. Ronald the manager was wonderful and gave us some good tips, sorted out our taxi to the airport and booking another night for us when we decided to stay longer and head straight to the airport from Galle rather than have a night in Colombo as originally planned. As our final stop in Sri Lanka it made it especially hard to say goodbye!

We rated restaurants in Galle Fort higher but the menu had a good selection especially having availability for something during day (casually at poolside too), and the breakfast was excellent!

Fantastic property with great staff all around. We sampled quite a few different items from the breakfast and dinner menu and all were well presented, proportioned and full of flavor. The Merchant room was large and comfortable, facing the outdoor courtyard and swimming pool - highly recommended. The staff at the bar made fantastic cocktails and around the property there was always someone to help you with anything that you required. Great living spaces, both indoor and outdoor! The fort and other landmarks in Galle are walking distance or a few tuk tuk strokes away. Can't recommend this property enough, it was a great way for us to leave our life behind and sink into holiday mode.

We didn't stay long enough, will have to add a few more nights for future stays.
