I arrived a little early for check in but was attended to with such an enthusiastic welcome. I had an injured knee and requested a bottom bunk and this was sorted out for me. The young man Lourenco who assisted me was absolutely excellent. The next morning while sitting in reception he came over and greeted me by name. Just observing him, I could see he loves his job and is so good with the residents. Thank you Lourenco. From an older person staying in a younger vibe accomodation you treated me with thae same enthusiasm and respect as all the guests.

Really beautiful hostel, great facilities, comfy beds, amazing value, nice lobby areas.
The only issue was that our room was out of hand soap and I asked three different people at the front desk (over two days) to refill it and nobody ever did. I found it weird because the bathrooms were clean otherwise. But everything else was great.

Fantastic location right near the river, modern and clean, comfortable bunks, very affordable. Amazing rain showers !! Staff were really nice and helpful. Overall this was a greally great hostel, unfortunately I didn't get to spend a great deal of time there due to a busy schedule!
Annoying that you have to pay extra to rent a towel for the duration of your stay. Also was not informed that I need to bring a lock for the under bunk drawers so had to pay for that too. Only other downside is that the ensuites in the dorms are v small and there was nowhere to put my clothes while I washed. One of the showers leaked onto the floor a lot too.

I had a fantastic stay at this hostel! The cleanliness was great, the facilities were excellent, with everything I needed to make my trip easy and enjoyable. On top of that, the location was perfect— its right in the Ribeira which was easy access to everywhere around Porto. The receptionist João really made my stay. I had asked to be moved as I was on a top bunk to which he changed me rooms. In this room there was an altercation with an older male guest (me female) and I didn’t feel comfortable staying there anymore. So after three trips to reception, he was great with me, I was shocked when I found out that he wasn’t in management. He got me another room and really made my stay for me, thanks João! When back in Porto I will most definitely be staying in The Central House.
The food wasn’t good. I only tried the bean burger with fries and it was very under cooked. The continental breakfast was pretty good for the price!

Good central location, comfortable beds, lovely staff, good showers, good value for money
Not something we didn’t like, but we wanted to mention. My boyfriend had a stand off with a French guy about turning the heating down, because everyone else in the room was to hot. When the French guy lost it, and went to get the hostel staff, they were super professional and offered him to go in a different dorm, and he did. I can’t speak highly enough of the staff. We’re sorry for creating a unhappy guest, and hope he doesn’t give a poor review. Thanks for having us, would rebook in a heartbeat.

Great location in the heart of Ribeira, very nice and helpful personnel. The hostel has an underground bar and a very comfortable common area. Rooms are in a good size, comfortable beds.
The bathroom was quite big, however I don't know who designed the shower cabins. The shower cabin wasn't fully enclosed, leading to water frequently spilling onto the bathroom floor, making it quite slippery and messy. When it comes to cleanliness: room space was ok, but the bathroom really could use a deep clean - yellow stains all over the sinks, floor in the shower cabin really messy :( Also, the bathroom could benefit from towel hangers, there's only one, so basically you have no space to leave your towel.

Great Hostel localization, reasonably clean bathrooms, good furniture and sleeping arrangements (at least in a shared-room for 8 people and good (somewhat boring) breakfast options for longer stays. Because of excellent/central localization, it will be rather noisy, with traffic basically all night long. Was it perfect ? No, but the problems I had (important just for the Hostel and I) were addressed at some point in my 5-night stay (later than sooner, but eh…). Cleaning team was good and Reception squad (in special Goncalo & Maria Ines), were fabulous, always going out of their ways to help, they are an asset for the company, hopefully they will be recognized as they should. I just wish the general Manager would have been more interested as someone holding such a position should be, never once was I approached to share my experience. Had I been a Manager, I would definitely mingle more and be more involved, especially when issues are brought up to their attention.

Excellent location. It is in picturesque Ribeira, yards from the river. Walkable to everywhere you will want to go in Porto. The staff could not be more helpful or nicer. Lourenco is a totally sound guy. The exterior of the building is a work of art in itself. The interior is 4/5 star, comfortable, modern and totally lovely. The breakfast room is really nice, as is the breakfast. Live music in the basement bar at nights is a bonus. Big tv in lounge is ace, comfortable working spaces too. You will not be disappointed in this place in any way. I couldn't think of a better place to stay in the city.
Nothing, all totally excellent.

Liked the curtain at each bed providing privacy.
1. The last day at the hostel there was no hot water to take a shower. From what I understood this is a recurring problem. I was refunded for the night’s stay but I would have preferred a hot shower before leaving. 2. I was there the night of the Sao João Festival. Great experience. Hostel offers a prime location for this festival. Hostel provided a security guard at the main entrance. The bathroom on that level was open to the public. The security guard was overwhelmed by the number of people entering and exiting the hostel. They were not paying guests, just using the toilet. This concerned me in regards to safety.

The Staff! EVERYONE! The Best. Best Breakfast! Best Response time to problems. Luggage control. Proximity to river. Please don’t make it better and then raise the price. I am on Canino leaving out of Porto and I could stay at an Albergue which is cheaper - I come for the Staff and closeness to River!!! Ask the Staff about me - Cheryl Dulog 2 hrs South of Washington, DC. on Camino 2024. I brought you fellas A LOt of business - 25 - 40 pilgrims!!!
Multi Gender Rooms. Boys & Girls or Couples and Families. Especially in high summer it is easy to keep it to boys & girls - Solo travel - it’s just faster, easier to dress in the morning AND NOT WAKE OTHERS if the concern for modesty is removed. Asian and in particular Japanese travelers expressed a strong affront to their DIGNITY to share with members of Opposite sex. I know Open minded travel but maybe from their feedback it was the last straw of Westernized change? Idk. But they have concerns deeper than mine above
