The food was not good in all the restaurants. I was quite disappointed and surprised since it’s not my first time staying at this hotel. We didn’t have hot water in our room , the telephone wasn’t working and we didn’t have no remote control for our tv.

Nice and clean junior suite and great location in Playa del Carmen. Good breakfast with lots of different options and very helpful staff.

Fair warning - the all-inclusive option means a lot of guests are there to party: there are drunk people in the hotel, and the rooftop bar (which is very nice) plays loud music until 11pm. When we were there one day someone had vomited in the pool, jacuzzi and male bathroom, yet many people were still in the pool..

The hotel is very well located, just one block from 5th Avenue and one block from Mamitas Beach. The staff is wonderful—very respectful, friendly, and kind. We only purchased the breakfast option, and we could choose between the Mexican restaurant with a delicious menu or the buffet, which offers plenty of delicious options, including fresh fruit. I am allergic to gluten, and I would have liked the buffet, being part of a 4-star hotel, to have more gluten-free bakery options. They only offered a small slice of bread and a muffin. It has a rooftop with a pool and good music.

The downside is that they try to sell you a vacation plan. They take you to breakfast at one of their all-inclusive hotels, and you end up spending almost 2 hours listening to them try to sell you a plan that borders on a pyramid scheme. When you book a hotel, you just want to rest and enjoy your vacation, not have the place you chose to stay at try to sell you unnecessary plans. This seems to be common in all the hotels in the area. **Traveler tip**: Do not accept or pay for anything at the airport or the hotel you're staying at related to these vacation plans.

Would really recommend this place. The rooms were stunning and massive, although no views, which is a shame. The rooftop area is the real selling point, it’s nice and big, pool areas are lovely, service is great, and stays open til pretty late if you like a jacuzzi dip like us after dinner. We didn’t try the restaurants, but the breakfast was good and we did do all inclusive one day which was great value at $50 pp.

Only two downsides. The big one is that if you pay for all inclusive expecting to be able to use the other resorts, expect to be disappointed. There’s absolutely no space to accommodate other people. We travelled to the other resorts around 10/10.30 and there was not a single place to sit around pools or beaches. I reckon you’d have to be up at the crack of dawn to get your towels down. There are plenty of great restaurants in town and nicer beaches, so I’d say save your money on all inclusive and only buy a day pass if you’re having a day at the pool at Reef 28. The other tiny thing to mention is that if you’re not a fan of loud house music, you will hate it here. it’s 24/7 and very very loud (and I’m no granny) and there’s only a handful of sunbeds where you can mildly escape it.

The location is close to a lot of restaurants with great food and the area is very walkable (The beach is also very close by). The room was nice, spacious and clean (including the bathroom). AC worked well and there was also a nice balcony that overlooked the street. Breakfast was always good. All the staff were warm and hospitable and I was surprised with a nice birthday treat which was very thoughtful. Definitely recommend for anyone visiting the playa area.

The first room we were put in smelled mouldy and damp but we were moved quickly after making a complaint and it was all good. Also, we could hear music from the street at night which might be a problem for light sleepers. It wasn't really an issue for us.

Hotel rooms were very spacious - enough drawers and a large wardrobe to fit luggage even for a longer stay. Breakfast was relatively rich and staff brought quickly food that went missing. Rooms were clean. Location - convenient between the beach and Quinta Avenida (the main pedestrian street).

Although the location seems to be quiet on the map and upon arrival, there were several bars exactly across the street that were extremely noisy, so I was forced to sleep with ear-plugs - which is extremely rare for me. Music just went on long after midnight. Reception staff was relatively slow.

The reception area beautiful , the location 🙌🏾 . Carolina at the welcome desk was exceptional 👏🏾 keep up the great work and sweet personality ❤️ The spa and staff omgggg amazing . Breakfast great, Italian Restuarant great, Mexican restaurant great , Asian restaurant great. Roof top burger great ❤️ . We did a tour with MAYAS ADVENTURES 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Exceptional.

The roof top set up and view was great . But the service was bad especially once they realize you’re staying at the hotel . They gave more attention to the day passers . The first time they saw us right off the bat the service was on point . The second time we went back at the roof top we asked the same guy who served us the first day for a drink , he just looked at us turn away and helped other people even persons who were nearby. He pointed another staff to us , the other server watched us and never came . We were on the all inclusive package.

The hotel has beautiful modern design, the rooftop is really nice with a great view - the pictures do not flatter the hotel. We felt it was better in person. The food!!! You can only dream of having great quality food and alcohol in all inclusive, and it was beyond our expectations. A lot of verity on the menus, from snacks to the restaurants and breakfast. Only the breakfast was a buffet and the rest was ‘a la carte’ we really enjoyed the Italian and Asian restaurant, however the Mexican felt less varied than the rest. The staff were nice. The eco friendly water fountain was a really nice touch in every floor.

The staff is a bit slow, we could wait a while for water, same for cocktails etc, the we waited even longer, might be human resources problem, since almost all of them worked all the time. The breakfast and Italian restaurant is in the hotel center with open ceiling to all the floors, so all the noise comes up. The bed was dirty when we arrived with sand, and needed linen change. The shower and toilets had bad smell of sewerage, when the door left open all the room smells like that. And the soap needed a change too, since it smelled like mold.

We booked this hotel very last minute as another accommodation we had booked fell through. We went for the all inclusive option as we felt was a good deal on booking.com. We were very impressed with the quality of the service provided at The Reef 28. From the very start at check-in to the last minute at check-out we've had a great experience. Staff was always polite and helpful. The food was amazing, breakfast buffet but lunch and dinner were a la carte, so quality was really good. All the drinks and cocktails included such high quality with a wide variety. The room was vey spacious and comfortable, bathroom and all facilities always clean. As it is an adults only hotel, the vibe was great. Unfortunately, our room faced a karaoke bar which made it a bit noisy but it's not the hotels fault, we just dealt with it. There is no beach access but you can go to the public beach a few blocks away or pay an extra small fee daily to have access to their other 2 beach-front resorts and you can use your all inclusive there as well (they provide a shuttle bus). The rooftop pool and bar have an amazing view to the ocean and again, great vibe up there. My only 2 criticisms are: - Would be nice if they provided bottled water in the minifridge in the room - Music is way too loud in the rooftop, hard to have a conversation sometimes. Didn't wanna be "that guy" to complain, but a few notches down on the volume would make it just perfect! All that said, I still rate them 10/10 as we loved every minute of our stay and we will be planning to come back. Note: we've read other reviews about a sales pitch for their vacation club. They do try to sell you at the very start but don't feel pressured in having to watch the presentation or commit to anything. We didn't and we still had a great experience with staff and our stay.
