We really liked the location. It was within walking distance of restaurants and the park.

We didn't like that the manager had left political notes on the coffee table for us all to see. If the owner wants it to be a relaxing place (a spa) then he needs to get politics out of the home.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience staying at this accommodation! Erina, truly went above and beyond to make my stay memorable. The whole house is impeccably clean and well-presented—you can immediately tell that the hosts have paid special attention to each decor aspect. The jar of lollies by the front door is such a thoughtful and charming touch. What truly set this stay apart, though, was Erina’s incredible kindness and attentiveness. When I accidentally left some items behind, she not only went out of her way to retrieve them but also promptly posted them back to me. Her thoughtfulness and genuine care for her guests are unmatched. I can’t recommend this place enough—not just for its comfort and convenience but for the incredible host who made me feel so valued and cared for. Thank you, Erina, for your outstanding hospitality! I’ll definitely be back!

I honestly can't think of anything I didn't like—everything was absolutely perfect! The host and accommodation exceeded all my expectations.

The property is a lovely old house with many period features. There were a good range of tea/coffee/snacks provided in the kitchen - note that the kitchen/lounge area closes at 20:00. The location is good up above Caroline beach, close to the sports centre.

Did I miss something or was „the spa“ the only bathroom upstairs - a nicely appointed bathroom with plenty of thick towels, but not a place you felt you could linger as it had the only toilet for the rooms on the first floor. Fresh milk rather than powder would have been nice. Parking was very tight at the back of the house and there were warnings of being towed away if parked on the street.

Absolutely loved our stay! The bed was extremely comfortable, and the shower was hot with great pressure. The owners were friendly, and everything was clean, making it feel like home. We really appreciate the pet-friendly policy, as we always travel with our small, well-behaved, cage-trained dogs. It would be wonderful if more places accepted pets as they cause less disturbance than many people. A huge thanks for this! The cookies were a highlight—our toddler loved them! We will definitely be back when we visit Timaru!

Be cautious if you have a larger car, as parking can be tricky and may lead to scratches. This is the only issue we encountered, but it should be fine for smaller cars.

The host was very generous with supplements in the kitchen such as coffee, tea, biscuits, some breakfast foods, dried soups, and so on. The kitchen, dining, and living room areas were comfortable and congenial. Relaxing in the warm spa at the end of the day was heavenly. Also, the park and beach were in walking distance.

Because our room door was formed of glass panes, we felt we lacked privacy. Although a drape attached to the wall and hanging over the door helped, it was very awkward climbing under the drape to open the door. A cloth panel on the door itself, or having a drape in 2 parts so it could open in the middle would have helped.

Coming into the Sanctuary you forget all of your surroundings and enter a world of relaxation. The super simple self checkin is very easy and the host Gerald is a great role model for how your stay should be, relaxing on the front porch in a dressing gown most of the time. Everything you need is provided including robes for the hot pool in the backyard and a good selection of breakfast food and cookies you can help yourself to. A true idyll close enough to the beach or to the town to walk there, but just staying on the property is just as good an idea!

I enjoyed the interior design and cleanliness of the house. Really comfortable space. The host was incredibly generous with facilities and breakfast items ect. Water pressure in the shower was amazing ahah.

I had expected the bedroom to be slightly larger and would have perhaps benefitted from a photo of the exact room I was going to be booking prior to paying. There was a latch on the window that is broken and made it difficult to close the window in the bedroom. Otherwise, everything was perfect.

Host was very hospitable. Lots of yummy cookies in the kitchen. Clean shared amenities and good pressure shower with lasting hot water. Home was beautifully decorated. We had a large room with a large TV. Enjoyed a relaxing dip in the hot tub on a very cold Timaru eve.

There wasn't a heater in the bedroom. Electric blankets on the bed so stayed toasty under the blankets.. but it was extremely cold and a heater would have been nice.

I arrived in the dark with a large mercedes car. It was a very narrow gap between the tree and the other guests cars to the right. I actually scrapped the door and left front fender of that borrowed late model car in attempting to get through. I could not back out of the narrow driveway. A kind young man moved his car back just enough for me to squeeze through and guided manuvouring so that I could drive straight out next morning. I can understand that the tree is precious, but maybe it could be better lit with a few solar lights?

Beautiful big old home the room I stayed in was lovely big comfortable bed. Bathroom was tidy clean shower was great breakfast was on offer but I didn’t stay it was a help yourself thing

Self check in no personal touch with the owner or anyone really parking was provided but very tight squeeze with a big car. Lots of rules and no noise after 8 no spa after 8 I arrived at 7
