Beautiful historic hotel with nice gardens full of birdlife and close to beaches and caves. We were upgraded to a lovely spa room.
The budget room we originally booked is close to big noisy aircon units so rather book a better room here.

Location was superb & and not too far from the beautiful beach. The gardens were very well maintained & looked lovely. Our room was very spacious with a spa - we loved that! Our bed was very comfortable & it was nice to have tea & coffee making facilities too.
For areas of improvement : - What we didn't like when we arrived was the piped music in our room. There's enough noise downstairs so we didn't think it was necessary. We also thought the lounge chairs in our room were very tired-looking & uncomfortable. - We also thought that we should have been able to watch Foxtel & Kayo in the hotel as there was a basketball final we wanted to watch.

This is the second time we have stayed at Caves House. The first time we were in Room 9, and we were hoping we would get the same room. Luck was on our side and we did. After a few days of hiking, we were looking forward to a spa. The night we stayed was twilight markets and pizza night. The pizza was amazing. We sat outside to enjoy the atmosphere.
The tables outside were joined together and it was a bit 'interesting' to sit at the end of a table close to another party. The smoking section was not signed well. I only noticed it was the smoking section as all tables had a ashtray on them, and then noticed the sign. Check in was bit difficult as the reception was not manned when we arrived, we had to go to the bar and then back to the reception. A bell at reception would have been more convenient.

Good value if you eat breakfast as included in room tariff. Great having a pub/restaurant below the accommodation with different rooms to relax in and all with either gas or wood fires which was lovely and cosy. Decor tasteful and in keeping with the heritage of the building. Fab location.
For me it’s always the little things especially when it comes to cleanliness. The plug in the basin was disgusting, looked ok from the top but when you filled the basin, black mould and gunk came away from underneath it. Housekeeping need to unscrew each time and clean, same goes for around the taps in the shower, build up of mould evident which is remedied with a bit of bleach and a tooth brush. I did feed this back to reception however.

The hotel is a heritage building set on beautiful heritage parkland. As this was winter, there were few flowers but in summer the gardens are gorgeous. It was wonderful to enjoy the sights and sounds of the different birds. The suite was well appointed with French doors separating the living area and bedroom. The bathroom was bright and roomy. The breakfast room setting was wonderful to start off the day and offered a generous variety of nice breakfast/brunch items.
The signage to reach the main reception entrance by car was not obvious. We ended up parking in the rear and dragged our suitcases through the restaurant to check-in. Beware that there are no elevators if you have heavy luggage. It was fine for us, but one needs to be aware.

It took us a while to get used to the style of the property, it's listed so quite old. Everywhere was very clean. We stayed in the Heritage room which was OK, the en suite was large and light. The breakfast was exceptional, the choice was good, and the eggs Benedict were lovely. A very good breakfast.
The only thing we had a bit of an issue with was the meal at night. The choice in our opinion wasn't great. There were some weird items on the menu, perhaps a steak would've been nice on there but the choice I found very disappointing. I had fish and chips with gem lettuce which I found really strange. I think the menu could have been a lot better and the desserts looked awful, not tempting at all. It's a shame as the dining room was lovely, the food needs to be a step up to match it. Apart from that everything else was fine.

We've enjoyed stays at Caves House before, and we always found the staff being very friendly and helpful - that seems to be one of their trademarks. We had a small heritage room. While it lacked any seats (the room is just too small), the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom sizeable (and clean), and it had lots of mirrors :-).
Not a dislike, more a heads-up: some of the rooms at the Caves House are all only accessible via stairs, there is no lift. But there are other options, so if stairs are an issue for you, make it clear when you are booking a room.

It was a wonderful break for us which was much needed! Your budget heritage room was beyond all our expectations and we would pick that room again if it were available, The staff were particularly friendly and helpful. What we also enjoyed was live entertainment each night, such a rare find. Such local talent. Then there was the breakfast OMG fantastic each morning. I could go on and on with the positives...but Thank you so much. I very much hope we'll be back!
This is a difficult one...let me think..Sorry, can't think of anything

I love that they maintained the early 20th century decoration and everything was comfortable, clean and smelled good. They have signs explaining the hotel history which is very lovely. The breakfast was great and had a lot of options (we ate the bread with eggs and hollandaise sauce). They have a beautiful garden outside and very cozy bars with an antique style
Our room’s windows were totally covered by another part of the building so no sunlight would get in, and the room door had a little opening at the bottom that let in noise if someone passed by, but nothing major

The breakfast was excellent. Always full and fresh. The Coffee (at extra charge from the Barista) was one of the best! The room was nice and spacious having almost everything needed. And the location was perfectly nestled away overlooking a lovely garden, yet close to the Bar and Restaurant though you couldn't hear it when the balcony doors were closed.
The nails that secure the balcony wooden floor panels need to be replaced or hammered in as they stick up and it hurts when you stand on them. It would be nice to have a couple of USB points in the room.
