The pictures on Booking.com are nothing like the accommodation. It was good, but not as good as I had hoped.

Nothing besides make the photos true to the venue.

Dungbeetle River Lodge is conveniently located just 4 km from the southern entrance of Addo Elephant National Park and 19 km from Schotia Private Game Reserve. The lodge boasts a fantastic terrace overlooking the river and dunes, where you can enjoy a hearty breakfast. The rooms are beautifully decorated, offering a warm, African-inspired ambiance. Don’t miss the opportunity to dine at A Taste of Africa—it’s a unique experience. While the location near a gas station may seem unusual, it’s definitely worth it. Just a short drive away, you'll find a cozy atmosphere, good food and excellent staff.

It is very stylish but functional. Lots of thought has gone into the furnishings and room features. The bedroom had a lovely balcony and riverside view. We also loved the local pub, 5 mins down the road that was safe to walk to- Grunters- great value and a very welcoming landlord. And we can highly recommend the river cruise with Beau who did a fantastic dune walk with us.

Nothing. We all felt that they could ‘sell’ the local tours more positively especially on arrival. It somewhat relied on us asking and reading about them. We appreciate it is a fine line between being pushy and informative.

Very nice lodge. The river front suite booked was top, view in front of the river and private terrace. Incredible breakfast, private parking, excellent pub within walking distance. Only 6km distance from Addo elephant park south gate.

Breakfast served only between 8 and 9, no flexibility on fixed hour. If you would like to enter in Addo at 6am when they open you may want to ask a breakfast pic nic box, otherwhise, no way you will arrive to Addo before 10ish...truly late if you woul like to enjoy tge sunrise...

Perfect location near the South Gate of Addo Elephant Park. Rooms are clean and breakfast is very rich. The owner makes sure you have a good stay.

Recommendation for dinner: the local pub food is not the best, instead go to Sundaze near the fuel station. Better atmosphere there.

View was incredible and it was a peaceful location. Attention to detail! Everywhere, you can see their eye for every last detail: from the accommodation to the lounge to the gardens and the checkin process, the breakfast... it was all very purposefully arranged and managed. You will not find a better location in the Addo area. It was literally 3 minutes from the south gate of Addo. Further, their guide service into the park was great as well. They even provided (the highest quality) binoculars! This is our 3rd "game drive" vacation in the past 6 years in SA and this was the first to provide binoculars.

It was all good! We found nothing to improve!

The cottage is spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated. Beautiful view from the deck, sunroom and front bedroom. The cottage is exceptionally clean(cleaned daily)and clean towels provided daily. It would have been nice if the cottage had an oven but other than that the kitchen is adequately equipped. We had amazing excursions with the Lodge, a morning game drive and a sundowner boat cruise. With both, our guides Christo and Beau, were fantastic!!!! We highly recommend the Lodge and their excursions and we'll be back!!!

The Dungbeetle River Lodge was mentioned on many blogs and forums that recommended accommodation for visiting Addo Elephant Park and we quickly understood why: an exceptional place where we would have liked to spend more time. A magnificent view and location along the river (incredible view at breakfast), rooms decorated with great taste, a welcoming and available owner. The plus: the possibility of going on excursions for the activities they offer, in particular game reserves in Addo. We did the tour with Christo, great day and experience.

Contrary to what we thought, the lodge does not have a restaurant for dinner in the evening. Mainly so as not to slow down customer traffic to nearby local restaurants, which we find very good and respectful. It is relatively easy to eat nearby or do some grocery shopping at SPAR.

Lovely views from the deck where excellent breakfast was served. Lovely choice of jams as well as hot food made to order. The river trip kindly arranged for us was great. We got to walk over the dunes and see more of the stunning scenery and colourful birds and learn some of the history of the area. Our 2 rooms were like a mini suite and perfect for us. The melon and ginger jam at breakfast was especially delicious.

Nothing to dislike.

Very good breakfast and fresh orange juice. We had a spacious and quiet room with great river view. The owners and the staff are very accomodating and gave us lots of recommendations on what to do in the area. The full day trip to Addo Elephant National Park organized by the lodge was simply fantastic. Christo was such a passionate guide and made us spend an unforgettable, wonderful day out in the bush. We really recommend booking one of their trips to the Park for the best experience. Thank you very much!

The Wifi was a bit slow sometimes and be aware that there are only two restaurants nearby. Nevertheless, the menues are good and sufficient for a couple of days.
