We had a lovely ground floor room by the pool. The room was clean, a good size and suited us for a week's stay. We enjoyed the pool several times, which was also of a decent size. The views from dinner and the pool were spectacular - of the gorge and Caminito del Rey. We had really good breakfasts - essentially as much as you want and with fresh fruit and orange juice as well as both hot and cold mains. We usually ate in the restaurant, which had a broad menu and a good range of wines. The staff were always kind and helpful. We think most people come for a short trip, to walk the Caminito, but were in El Chorro for rock climbing and felt we enjoyed the best local accommodation and food.

Breakfast started at 8am, and the first bus to the Caminito left at 8.40am. This was a tight schedule on the day we did it. More importantly, some days there was a huge influx of people not staying in the hotel who came for breakfast/or a coffee and these seemed very much to have precedence over hotel guests. The problem was really just from 8-9am, but the staff were then overworked, overstretched and it was not a good experience for guests or staff. We would advise leaving breakfast until 9am if possible, but the hotel administration bears a responsibility to sharpen up the process by which they deal with these breakfast pressures.

Perfect for the Caminito del Rey. It is near the exit of the Caminito (south access). The bus stop for the north access (the entrance) of the Caminito is just in front of the hotel, across the street - buy the ticket in the booth beside the bus stop and leave the bus at the "Kiosko Restaurant" stop (access to the actual entrance starts there, via tunnels under the rocks). When you end the Caminito, you will be near the hotel and your car. Plan to take the bus at least one hour before your entrance time (check bus table time because they are not so often). There is plenty of space in the street to park. Good restaurant (we had dinner but did not try breakfast). The room we got has two floors and a narrow spiral stair to reach the bed above (difficult for people with limited mobility, probably not an issue if you will do the Caminito). Great view from the window (if you get a riverside room). The room is comfortable, with a separate living room and a sofa.

When going for dinner I asked for a table by the window, to have a better view to the river, but I was informed that all tables there were reserved (there were many). But some of the "reserved" tables never were used during all the time we were there.

Overall we had a very pleasant visit. The location was excellent, with views of the reservoir, the rocky mountains and indeed the Caminito del Rey. Parking was free as well. With a bus stop opposite for the Caminito and its closeness to the finish of the walk, it is ideally placed. We enjoyed having the use of the outdoor pool (great views). Staff at the hotel are very pleasant and friendly. I should mention that a very good breakfast is served at the table - no wasteful buffet - but it does need a little more planning if you have a bus to catch. Our spotlessly clean room was on two levels - a very comfortable "sitting room" and a good size bedroom with an en suite bathroom. The bed was very comfortable, and we had great views over the lake and mountains. Great being able to watch vultures circling.

Two features of our room. Firstly, is the challenging narrow spiral staircase between the two levels. A bit tricky hauling a 13kg suitcase up that. It's also a little close to the bed - you had to be careful of this for visits to the bathroom in the dark. Secondly the shower - it is over a bath which is slippery when wet. Climbing in and out was also a bit of a challenge. That area would make a great walk-in and safe shower facility. The restaurant was OK. The food offered had great potential, but didn't quite hit the mark.

The village is a bit of a challenge to reach whichever direction you come from but well worth the journey! Train station is directly opposite if coming from Malaga. This is an amazing old building which has been imaginatively turned into a great hotel. Good choice of room styles and views. Ours was a split-level style with a lovely bed and good bathroom. Pool is excellent and very welcome after a hot day hiking. Sun terrace is good. Restaurant is more or less the only game in town but is actually pretty good and views are to die for. The Caminito bus runs from right outside and when you've finished the walk it is lovely to just stroll back to your room rather than have to schlep back up the hill to collect your car or wait for the train! They have great links with local guides for hiking, climbing, cycling etc.

Service in dining room and at breakfast can be hit and miss but chill and enjoy the views instead. Parking is available on-site but if it's full there is limited choice in the village without a longish uphill walk back to the hotel.

The hotel is an excellent place to stay for the Caminito Del Rey (and probably otherwise too). Our experience was excellent, from start to finish. The staff were really helpful and nice. Check-in was quick. Our room (209) was beautiful and cosy. As others mentioned before: the stairs to the bedroom were narrow and steep, but it was fine for us to be honest (probably you don't want to take your big suitcases upstairs though). Everything was spotless in our room - and in the hotel too. We had dinner in the restaurant: it was amazing. We both loved it. I can only recommend the steak, I loved it. Breakfast was equally great. One thing to note though: they make everything to order (everything is super fresh and tasty), which can be tricky when you are trying to get to the bus on time for your Caminito Del Rey hike and the place is busy. We checked out before our hike but we could leave our backpacks/suitcases here and collected them after our hike.

There is not much if anything at all. As mentioned: waiting during breakfast can be tricky sometimes. Some of the walls must be thin as we could hear others talk during the night - but honestly, it was fine.

Superb location for the walk. Quirky interesting hotel and rooms. Restaurant food was excellent quality and value for money. The pool is gorgeous and the views are amazing. Staff generally helpful Hotel is very focused on protecting the environment

We weren't aware that we would have to access a second floor bedroom and bathroom by a very narrow spiral staircase. Thankfully we only had small luggage. Not suitable for less mobile individuals. Coffee making facilities were good but needed us to carry a kettle of water down the stairs to the lower level which I didn't feel safe to do. Would be better to have a jug/bottle of water made available on the lower floor. The shower gel provided was in tiny 'balloons' which I think were probably soluble to support their ethos . However, it wasn't clear how to use/open them. Mine burst open and shot across the shower. My husband's, unfortunately, burst and went straight in his eye causing some discomfort. Maybe re think these

The view was amazing towards el caminito and everything else about the hotel was very nice. Great pool. An amazing place to stay.

We booked a trip arranged by the hotel to do the caminito del rey which was less professionally managed. The group of people was very big, but while people stood calmly waiting, the guides seemed to be running around a bit confused. Directing people back and forth several times and doing name check three times with the whole group. This took quite a while before we could finally leave the hotel. This sense of a bit of confusion was there throughout the trip. The guidance itself during the hike was the same, it was difficult to hear the guide with such big groups. At the end we just gave up on hearing the guide. This trip can easily be done on your own which will be much less hazzle. But the hotel itself is amazing.

Very comfortable hotel and ideal for anyone going on the Caminito del Rey walk, as bus stop to the walk is opposite hotel entrance. Also very convenient for Antequera and El Torcal National park. Rooms were spacious if a bit quirky. Cool hotel pool was a great plus in temperatures of 35+. Staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly. Shaded car parking.

Bathrooms with glass doors not ideal, especially if the toilet on full view and room curtains not closed properly. In case of our room it was the shower on full view. Would be good for hotel to put some privacy screening on the glass door.

amazing hotel beautiful buiding and setting with stunning views from restaurant and relaxing pool. Lots of other garden and shaded areas when sun gets too much. Our room was clean, comfortable, quirky decor .....loved the climbing and bouldering theme. The hotel was lively with a wonderful restaurant, great food, some really interesting dishes and not expensive for food / wine / drinks ... again some stunning views when enjoying meal. Great for cycling which I was doing but had to do the caminito del rey walk and glad I did. would go back in a minute

A fabulous location, right at the end of the Caminito del Rey, so ideal if you’re doing the walk. A lovely pool, restaurant and communal areas, plus free parking on site. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and the food was superb - highly recommended.

We had a duplex room in the main building above reception. Access to the bedroom is up an extremely small, metal, spiral staircase. My husband is 6’2” and broad shouldered and he struggled to get up comfortably. We had to leave our (small’ish) bags downstairs and just went up to sleep. Bed was a small double, but comfy. Bathroom was compact with a cumbersome way to get in and out of the bath/shower. Fine for one night but wouldn’t be ideal for a longer stay or if guests were very large.
