Goood sized bedroom with old stone walls.Large comfortable bed with tea and coffee in room.General atmosphere of an old convent building.

As listed ,this provider has a reception desk staffed between 12 noon and 6pm only. Outside those times the place really cant be cslled a 'hotel' as the chance of meeting any staff is as likely as meeting one of the origional nuns who inhabited this building. They have a bar area but nobody about to serve drinks .A restaurant ,which opens for one hour mid week between 830pm and 930pm only in the evening yet is open for lunches. A 'hotel' cateers to its guests by employing staff to make their stay relaxing and providing 24 hr services.Self check in after 6 pm and a one our dinner service does not make you a hotel.

Gorgeous 17th century stone convent that has been tastefully converted into a hotel. Wonderful period features retained including huge doors and fantastic staircase. Large bedroom and bathroom with all modern facilities. Hotel has a gated car park (open during the day but locked at night) so motorcycle parking was not an issue. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was absolutely fabulous. Breakfast in the atrium was plentiful and the coffee was very good. The hotel is only 50 minutes ride from Bilbao port so very convenient for catching the lunchtime ferry to Portsmouth.

On arrival we were made to feel very welcome and given all the information that we needed. The hotel is a converted convent and as such the charm of the interior of the hotel could not be underestimated. The staircase to rooms and the balcony are breathtaking. Our room, which maintained the spirit and atmosphere of the original, was clean with adequate bedding and towels. A small selection of drinks and snack was available. Although the restaurant was not open, the young woman on duty was kind enough to make us a ham salad and serve us in the entrance hall at which tables are placed. The young women appeared to do everything and she must be complimented on the positive way she went about her duties. The hotel was very dog friendly. Car parking was superb with secure access. Overall, we were delighted to have stayed and have told many of our friends that if they are ever on their way to Bilbao, don't hesitate to stay here.

This won't be the hotel's fault of course. Legislation will no doubt have required the installation of modern equipment and lighting. Sometimes the hotel appeared deserted and unstaffed.

We loved this place!!! I'm pretty sure "Bibianna" really means "lovely Spanish Lady"' You couldn't have been more helpful thank you!! When we arrived there was a festival in full swing in the town and the hotel was flat out with lunchtime customers. Bibianna gave us our own table ( bearing in mind we had only just arrived and no booking in place) and then we had probably the best meal we have had in the last 10 years of touring, It was spectacular. thank you so much, it redefined the height of the bar for others to follow. The rooms were lovely, the converted Convent is just delightful, breakfast was continental and just what we needed. We had secure parking for our bikes. which was great. If it was closer to home I'd be there every week!! it would be worth driving all the way back through France to revisit! We were also fortunate to be in town for the medieval festival which was great fun and a true spectacle.

Nothing, as far as value for money goes this was just fantastic., It was good on any scale, so for the price just stunning. it far exceeded our expectations, all of our stops were one night, this really deserved to be more.

Historic building very well restored and maintained, staff were helpful, especially the bar lady who offered to prepare a light dinner even though the restaurant was closed on a Monday. There is free secure parking. The convent is centrally located a short walk from the main square where there are bars and restaurants. Tea & coffee making facilities in the room (which not many Spanish hotels seem to offer). Only 30 minutes from Bilbao, so easy access to ferry home.

No suggestions.

Beautiful building just few minutes walk from the nice town. Bus stop right outside. 55 mins to Bilbao excellent value and service. There is also a train to Bilbao about 8 minute walk. The people on the bar and reception were so nice and friendly having to fulfil many roles.

The area outside the restaurant could have been more inviting. Seats hard and nowhere comfy. The outside area towards the carpark looked quite neglected. Shame as could be an amazing relaxing space to enjoy a drink. Yes there is another area on the other side near the front which was ok.

We have visited before with our dog and not only we but he is also well looked after. We travel from northern Spain to the Algarve and return and find this a great half way stop. It provides a similar experience to the renowned paradors and is our first choice of somewhere to stay on our journey. It also has immediate access to a walking trail along an old railway which is ideal for us and the dog after a long drive.

I loved the location. The property was a little run down but the room was comfortable. Online check in was ideal but the lack of staff was a concern. I went to the restaurant for an evening meal but there was nobody around to speak to despite in being advertised as open. I was a little disappointed with this property.

Lack of staff. The property was also a little run down.

The restaurant at the hotel is very nice, must be the nicest in Balmaseda. The ambience is also very special, decorations are carefully chosen. There are not many rooms in the hotel and generally not many guests, while the hotel is still very spacious.

The sound isolation could be better.

Nice location. Lovely staff Convenient for Bilbao ferry

The restaurant was closed despite Monday being the day that restaurants in town were shut. They supplied us with a meal to microwave which really wasn’t very good and no breakfast was available but but they gave us a bottle of wine in compensation. Reception hours are restricted
