They have a great bar and restaurant with very reasonable prices. The bar staff were excellent and always had your next drink ready. Room was big and spacious without much outside noise.

The 1st night we arrived the room they gave us smelt very strong of cigarette smoke which put my wife into asthma mode so the only room for that night was a tiny back room. The next day they moved us to a decent size room for next 2 days. I would have thought we would be offered some sort of credit/breakfast for inconvenience of small room but they insisted room cost the same as other rooms.. Anyway next day new room was all sorted.

Great location. Room was huge, clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. Incredibly good value for a stay given the price we paid. Free parking is right outside.

No warm welcome on arrival (which we had at every other place we stayed). Felt like a mix of great and not so great staff. Hot water in the shower only lasted a couple of minutes which was annoying. Only 1 towel per person- no hand or towel for the floor. I notice this has been mentioned on several reviews and ignored by management who give stock responses and don’t acknowledge any issues reviewers raise- this is a shame.

I stayed in this hotel for about 4 days. Liked · The hotel was generally in good condition and the room was wonderful. • There were two beds adjoined. One bed the mattress was very comfortable, the other was sagging. The pillows were wonderful and the right firmness and softness. The comforter was cozy and comfortable. • AC was powerful and worked very well throughout • Lighting was great and plugs were really plentiful and thoughtfully placed. • Shower/Bathroom was fantastic and generous. It was clean overall and the amenities were wonderful, i.e. Shampoo and Body wash though I used my own. • Breakfast was good and had nice choices both Sri Lankan and European. • The restaurant staff were very friendly and very helpful throughout. When help and service was needed they were instant. • The room had a refrigerator, a wonderful safe, iron, ironing board, a table, a wonderful new tv, side lamps, tea/coffee maker, and hangers in the 3 cupboards, 2 nice lounging chairs with a table • The reception staff were very polite, respectful, courteous, and helpful. They have a very thoughtful guest policy which was very much appreciated. • The Housekeeping staff were really wonderful and provided amenities when needed within minutes. They also cleaned surfaces that were missed during their cleanups. Though they provide just 1 towel. When requested for hand towel and extra bath towels, they were very generous • The internet WiFi worked very well • The TV channels were excellent • Great help with parking • Friendly and helpful doormen, bellhops and security guards

Disliked • Housekeeping needs to be more detailed in their cleaning. They miss mold and mildew in the showers and dirt in the corners of the sink. • Over the weekend Saturday and night the bands playing below my window was deafening. There are no laws against noise pollution and quiet hours. So they continued banging the drums and guitars into 1 a.m. Shocking that no one could stop the band at 10 p.m.

The location is excellent, right next to the Dutch Hospital and Galle Face Green in walking distance. We used it as a convenient stopover to spend the afternoon and evening before heading to the airport at 11 pm. We received a room upgrade due to the issues mentioned below. The upgraded room was spacious with a good shower.

Check-in was a bit harsh and unfriendly, requested our passports twice without explaining the situation. Our initial room smelled strongly of smoke, despite all rooms being non-smoking. The second room was better, but had been heavily sprayed with air freshener before we could move in.

So we had an issue with towels not being kept in the washroom and when we asked for it they gave us 1 towel. When we checked back again, the person on the reception had a very lame answer that apparently the room is supposed to be for 1 guest so we gave 1 towel. The housekeeping guy later told us that they had miscounted and given more towels in other rooms leading to shortage, towels are a very basic requirement in a hotel which we should not need to ask and we can still be understanding if you are being honest rather than give lame answers. The issue was sorted though and we were given new towel the next morning. However, it will be good to train the staff on how to answer in the sticky situations.

Very well located for the Fort area in Colombo and close to the Dutch Hospital area of the city with its restaurants, shops and bars. The rooms are spacious and well equipped and the hotel is a very good value for money.

There was very loud live music played in the bar area of the hotel until midnight the night we arrived. Very clearly audible from our room - several floor above! After a 9 hour flight this really wasn’t the most comfortable and relaxing welcome to Sri Lanka..

location is really nice just exactly in the city centre. close to train station and the market. pretty close from the bus stop to the airport. and in the lobby nice pub, so pity they don’t have cider there

the window that is mentioned in the description is not the window such as European or Russia style. it’s just a small hole that better not to be opened :) but it’s not a minus it’s just a nuance

Rooms are huge. All facilities like tea and coffee, refrigerator, iron and board present. Situated next to the classy restaurant area. Within walking distance to fort train station.

Shower grout bit dirty in some areas. All the food and drinks are priced "nett" When I asked what are the add on charges it seems it was about 40% extra. Don't like not knowing what the final price will be. At least you can add a quoted 10% service charge if that is what is advertised, but nett could mean anything and did so.

We had to go to Colombo to get a driving permit from Ceylon AA and pick up our etickets to Polonnaruwa. I wasn't looking forward to being in a busy city but read the Rough guide for Fort area . Loved the Hotel right next to the converted little Dutch hospital, with its eateries. Our room was lovely and big, clean and welcoming after the heat of the day. Staff were cheerful and helpful. Especially liked the friendly breakfast staff. Loved the breakfast, as a vegetarian and lover of Sri Lankan food, so much to eat, buffloe kurd, fresh mango, pineapple and melon, cakes, breads and the delicate spiced Sri Lankan Omlette. As well as a hot buffet which included local hopper dishes on both days we stayed. Easy walking distance to the Galle Green, and the lovely sea breeze as the sun went down. Wonderful first day walking back from the station we dropped down to the canal/ ganga and a king Fisher landed on the wall next to us. We used the water ways to link to the Ceylon AA office and to take us down towards Galle Green.

Absolutely love the location. We make The Steuart our default pick when we need to stop over for a night in Colombo and the fact that it's bang in the middle of the Dutch Hospital district makes it easy for us to make the most use of our time — great restaurants, events and the railway station is very close too.

The hotel smells funny, not sure what it is. It's not too bad to deal with for one night though.
