The hotel is situated in a house in traditional style for Stone Town with lots of dark wood in doors and panels, reminding about old times. Hotel Al Johari & spa surprised me in everything. The rooms and the entire hotel are extremely clean and The hotel team is cheerful and always ready to help. When I entered the hotel, I never felt like I was just coming to a hotel. I felt that I had arrived at home, where I was welcomed with joy. The breakfast offered at the hotel is a la carte, prepared according to your wishes. I really like the idea of the new manager of the hotel restaurant to offer, in addition to breakfast, small snacks at other times, as well as lunch and dinner The room has everything necessary to satisfy even the most demanding wishes. If racks or shelves are often missing in the utility rooms, Al Johari Hotel has also thought of these little things. The shower room is spacious, the water pressure is very good, hot water is available around the clock. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi and spa as well.

Mr Behera, the owner of this hotel, treated me like family during my stay here. So much so that I extended my stay from 1 week, to 3 weeks. From offering me his motorbike, to preparing special lunches for us both, you couldn't ask for a more hospitable person. The views from the hotel's top floor are amazing, and the location is absolutely ideal. I'll definitely be back in Stone Town in the future, and I'll definitely be staying here again.

Really wonderful place to stay in Stone Town. The room was clean, spacious and quite affordable for being in such a central location. It is very near all the major tourist sites. The owner and the staff were excellent. So helpful and ready at all times to assist. There is also a seating area on the top floor which was an added bonus.

I was really looked after. The staff were friendly and helpful. Very central location. Great breakfast. Overall the accommodation is good value and I highly recommend it to anyone who is planning a stay at Stonetown.

I did have to be careful with the stairs as the staircase is quite high and steep. It may not be suitable for elderly.

The staff are well trained. Their hospitality is exceptional…. We faced a problem with the booking website, however, the owner of the hotel upgraded us to their best room without us even complaining about it… Everyone was just so welcoming, and made us feel at home… The rooms are clean and big, AC working, big windows, yummy breakfast… Highly recommend.

Although it is a 1 minute walk from where the taxi dropped us off, the location is great. Near to all Stonetown attractions Forodhani Gardens, and restaurants. The breakfast was good. The wi-fi broke down one day but they got it repaired right away. The new owner and all the staff were really friendly and helpful.

It did not have an operating bar, but the owner said that they will be opening up the rooftop bar in the very near future.

This is by far the best value hotel in the best area of Stonetown. The manager and staff were very friendly and helpful. My second time to stay here and I will always come back. The view from the rooftop restaurant is amazing. 10/10.

There is nothing I didn't like. Any negative reviews I have read have all been resolved. You can book with confidence.

If you wish to dive into the ancient Arabic world, at least to feel it, than the Al Johari is your place. The arabic spirit is around you, where ever you are in the hotel. The very central location of Al Johari makes each discovery of Stone Town with its labyrinth of numerous alleys more easy and you reach the places to be weithin a short period of time, let it be day or night time.

The tiny neighbourhood doesn't make Stone Town a calm place, a lot of sound is around you. However, that is the character of Stone Town.

Perfect location & close walking distance to everything. We were unhappy with our original accom in Stone Town and moved to Al Johari for 2 nights & will be returning for 1 night on our way out of Zanzibar again! Staff are lovely and friendly, great value with aircon room. I’d say we only missed having a pool to cool off in the October heat!
