Hiliki House & Retro are our go-to-places when we have to stay in Stone Town. David and the ladies from staff are doing an amazing job and are super nice, friendly and kind. It is perfectly located to the city center and the markets. Also the rooms have an AC and it was very clean. As mentioned in other reviews here on booking, this is an older house in Zanzibari style - due to the high humidity and the ocean there might be some water stains on the walls and ceiling and also some corrosion of bathroom items. As this is a common thing, we are perfectly fine with that and for the price there is absolutely nothing to complain. Also the breakfast and the fresh juice is flawless. Thanks again to David & the team for repeatedly having us & the warm welcome!

Location is on the edge of Stone Town, but where a taxi can drive to the front door. The proximity to Stone Town was great as our walking tour guide could pick us up there. The breakfast was in an airy upstairs room. They are catering for overseas tourists and there were choices for continental as well as a cooked breakfast. Our host was always on site and very helpful.

The Bathroom has been used a lot and little or no maintenance has taken place for a long time. The one wooden tow rail and the toilet roll holder were falling apart. The basin was blocking-up. The shower cubicle had cracked and pealing cement and paint. The bathroom needs a complete overhaul.

- the location was close to the main roads in Zanzibar but the city was just 10 min walking distance. If you needed a taxi pick up they didn’t have to drive into the city and it was not so overcrowded with tourists. - the host was incredibly kind and helpful. Gave us many Tipps and ideas of things to do in and around stone town :)! - the staff was overall very friendly - the breakfast is big and includes fruit, fresh juice, a choice of eggs, bread and coffee or tea - the rooms are equipped with AC, fan and mosquito net - the separate toilets (not a must) are clean (the water warms up very slowly but we didn’t even use warm water because of the heat) - 24/7 security in front of the doors that was also very kind - several communal rooms so you can chill places other than your room

- don’t have an Creditcard Mashine so make sure to have cash for any payments

This place looks absolutely incredible.. an old Arabic style house with all the elements and decors inside. I have tried fining it’s history online but no luck.. It’s located on the outskirts of Stonetown, nice and quiet area, breakfast is the classic eggs, bred, fruits and coffee/tea, very reasonable price for the booking. Can’t say enough about the place, I believe you should spend at least 1-2 nights here.. just to get that traditional Zanzibar stonetown feel.. I’ve literally walked around and done a photoshoot of the place :)

They have a yard/green area at the back, but it needs a bit more love, not greatly maintained.

David and his team were very friendly, the location was perfect and super quiet, the furniture and art were beautiful, hot water available, and THE BREAKFAST WAS VERY TASTY.

But the purpose of a hotel is to mainly catch good sleep, and our main issue came with the mattresses/beds which were very soft and actually gave us sore backs… that is unfortunate but I hope the host considers this and gets more durable mattresses!

We loved this boutique hotel, which far exceeded our expectations given the price per night. It is in a perfect location in easy walking distance of Stone Town, yet really quiet. The house is beautiful - traditional style, painted in white and blue with lots of antique furniture. Our bedroom was small, but gorgeous. The bathroom was stylish and we had plentiful hot water. The breakfast was consistently excellent - fruit, juice, eggs, toast, pancakes, tea and coffee. We liked it so much we extended our stay.

Really nothing! A tiny thing, but as the bed was antique it creaked a little when we moved, but really nothing that disturbed us too much

I like the property of many reasons. It’s location is perfect, it’s near to everything, such as an ATM machine, the ocean, many restaurants and cafes, even a bakery and the hospital and the city center, without being in the very center of everything. It’s beautiful and quiet, with its old fashioned decoration with African crafts and art together with the Islamic influence of the culture. Well kept, beautiful lamubeds for example in the room and with a truly authentic feeling…good healthy breakfast with nice service, good management of the place together with a very good staff. The rest of the crew are also very nice friendly polite and helpful. It was a little bit on the expensive side for me, but still with good value for the money.

The only a little bit negative thing about the lamubeds is despite them being so beautiful and authentic, they are a little bit hard and high up. But that’s just how it is, no real complaint as such.

Great staff. The hotel manager was very attentive. He helped arrange transportation and even prepared a ginger tea when he realized I was with a bad throat. The decor is very authentic, clean and centric. AC and fan in the room as well as mosquito net for the bed and windows. Good breakfast too.

Wifi in the room wasn't great as I was in the furthest room but worked great in the common areas. I suggest adding a trash bin in the bathroom or room.

Hikiki house is located at one of the safest areas in Stonetown. Next to the white house. Peaceful street , just few minutes far from the sparkling city center. Really loved the maroccon style furnitures, and huge room. Just recommended who would like to spend few days in Stonetown.

Wifi is not available at all rooms, as the “biggest” disadvantage. And sometimes I was struggling to make me understand by all staff members. If you have specific questions you have to turn to the correct stuff person, not everybody’s english is good.

Despite arriving very late at night, I was welcomed by David, who was very kind and even went out to get water for me. The rooms are spacious and clean: I stayed in the double room with external bathroom, with an old-style shower and beautiful wooden furniture and bed. Location is convenient and the area is quiet and safe. Breakfast is served in the main building and it's abundant and very nice. Staff is kind and available.
