We had 12 incredible nights in 2 beach huts with our 8 and 5 yr old, they were 5 metres from sea and 5 metres behind from pool. The pool was gorgeous and a must with small children. We hadn’t been to KOH mak before so were hugely relieved how great Makathanee is! The better beaches are other side of island but that’s only 5 mins in a golf buggy and the Makathanee is a one minute walk from restaurants/shops/ice cream/chemist/massages - so the location was brilliant too. The last night we were in a top floor apartment which was also great. The staff were beyond brilliant!! So kind and helpful, especially a lady called ‘ Wow’ at reception who’s English is brilliant. The hotel is clean, a little run down in areas but rooms and pool, perfect! Breakfast, my girls loved, huge buffet.

Great location and resort for Koh Mak. They have their own pier out front and possible to get speed boat to and from there if coming from Koh Chang or Koh Kood. Stayed in beachfront villa - great outlook across lawns and water. Gardens and are well maintained. Staff are lovely. Easy walk to multiple options for food and supermarkets and to hire motor bikes. Pool is clean and refreshing. 2nd visit to the island and this resort - loved the beachfront villa.

Some elements around rooms and resort are due to be updated (like shower head in room we had) but everything is functional. Breakfast was plentiful but Thai options were ok - not great. Coffee in the machine very bitter. Water pressure in shower was low.

Breakfast was EXCEPTIONAL! with a genuine Thai taste in every dish. Big applause for the chef! The location is in a lively area where you can find everything by 1 min walking: restaurants, pharmacies, and a local superstore. It's also next to the beach.

We chose a standard room. Due to it's close to the local restaurants, there were people singing karaoke loudly almost every night we stayed, however, they stopped by midnight. If you book a room closer to the beach, it might be more peaceful. Also, the beach water is not as clear compared to the other side. However, in overall, this hotel is still worth the money to visit, as Koh Mak is pretty small, and you can easily drive to the other side to visit beautiful beach areas within 10 minutes.

Makathanee was a great place to stay at Koh Mak. We came directly to the pier from Koh Chang, got into the spacious bungalow quickly and enjoyed our time here with an amazing view to the ocean. Close by shops, restaurants and massages (walking distance only minutes). Hotel booked a snorkeling trip for us with only 6 guests which was great. Also nice private beach, also to go for longer walks in both directions. However, a scooter rental is helpful to see also other areas of the island.

Nothing the resort is responsible for, but be aware of the sandflies and itchy bites - but the local pharmacy across the street provides balm and creams against it.

Family room was exceptionally spacious, bed fine. Breakfasts good. Location - beach pretty narrow, but very wide just 200 m away. Views stunning! At the back of our hotel was a nice street with restaurants - pretty "busy" as for small island that Koh Mak is - it was very nice and fun. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Swimming pool - pretty small; I need to add that for us, traveling with with kids, this is important factor. But what's even worse - the water didn't seem clean; the pool was even closed for one day; after re-opening the water still didn't look convincing... Air con in one room required fixing and even then wasn't always working properly. Wi-fi very poor. Resort itself doesn't seem to "fit" too much - main building is 3 levels tall, sort of colonial. But wasn't ugly.

The location is great. The ferry drops you off and picks you up right at the hotel! The view from our room with beautiful. The beach and view is beautiful and is very quiet and relaxing. The staff are also extremely helpful. We had some issues with the company that we booked our ferry ticket with and Khun Wow helped us to cal different companies to sort it out. She was amazing!

One small thing, there aren’t many sun beds near the pool but there are more closer to the beach. Also, and this isn’t the fault of the hotel, there are lots of sandflies on the beach.

Location right on beach. Plenty of sun loungers available. Comfortable sofa in our room and great views of the beach. Very good reasonably priced on site restaurant. Recommend the green curry. It was excellent. Good buffet style breakfast. Very nice friendly staff especially in the restaurant.

Not a fault of the hotel but at high tide the beach literally disappears under the water. Sand flies can be a surprise problem with bites taking 24 hours to become visible, itchy and uncomfortable but only if you have a bad reaction to them I didn't notice them at all but my partner was covered in angry red spots.

The location is amazing. Right on the beach and also on a little stretch of shops too. The restaurant had a great selection and did bbqs on the beach most nights. Our room was so spacious and had an amazing view. You can rent kayaks too and there are beach bars not too far in both directions as well as one on site.

We noticed most of the tourists got around the island on golf buggies from their resorts but the hotel didn’t mention this at check in/ no signs or mentions of it around the resort and when we tried to book one they’d already all booked up. However we walked to other resorts and found one willing to rent to us 😄 They also knocked loudly at 8am every day with new towels etc, despite the do not disturb sign being up. But these things are so minor and don’t matter and we would definitely stay again!!

The location is very convenient as the hotel backs on to a street with restaurants, minimarts, etc. and a gorgeous beach is in the front of the hotel. The restaurant is truly a lovely spot for breakfast. This visit we were offered more vegan options at breakfast which was wonderful and much appreciated. The room was very clean and the grounds are beautiful and very well kept. It was nice to have the refreshing swimming pool. The staff are amazing - especially Saifah & Wow in the restaurant and at front desk!

1. Right on the beach, only few resort folks not crowded and it has it own pier. 2. Food was good , they do barbq in the evenings 3. We saw a clear sunset from the pier. 4. Loved the vibe, very quiet and the staff was very helpful. Do book a taxi from the resort to the pier which is 20Baht. 5. If you go outside, there is a nice gelato shop and other shops near by. We just stayed for one night and we loved it.

1. I thnk the pool was a bit unclean. 2. Also the curtains lacked the required velcro. It was coming off. Privacy freaks will have to come up with some hacks. But it was not too bad.
