The Hero has a lovely relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It is cosy and comfy. The food is excellent. All home made and of high quality. The staff were all lovely. Very attentive and great service. Nothing was too much trouble. The location was great for exploring the beautiful salt marshes leading to the stunning Gunhill Beach. We liked having a small fridge in the room with fresh milk for drinks.

Our room (Pollard) was quite small as we had our medium sized dog with us. We had to put her bed in the shower cubicle as there wasn't enough room around the bed for it. Also, we got woken up twice on the night we stayed as the fire alarm went off. I gather this hasn't happened before but it did spoil an otherwise perfect night away.

No place is perfect and The Hero had its downside. However they paled into insignificance compared to the excellence of its staff, food and drink and location. A cheerful, helpful, efficient staff belied their youth with their professional attitude. Amazingly for a pub nowadays it actually had 2 draught real ales available (the Wherry was particularly drinkable). Whilst the food was not Michelin rated (Thank goodness) it was more than excellent. I cannot single out any particular dish as they were all consistently delicious including the breakfasts. Ideally located to explore this beautiful part of the world, The Hero is an outstanding example of what a modern pub should be!

It would be petty to set out minor issues when compared to the overall excellence of The Hero.

The location is fantastic for access to the North Norfolk coast and the accommodation although bijou was comfortable and warm. The food in the restaurant is of a high standard and the breakfast was delicious. The staff were very friendly and genuine.

Breakfast took about 40 minutes to arrive with no apology. There was no mirror in the bathroom for those of us who apply make-up and there was some mould on the shower tiling and scuffing to the paintwork in the shower room. If these issues were ironed out then it would have been a near perfect stay.

Really friendly & helpful staff who couldn't do enough for you. Particularly the assistant manager - a very warm & friendly welcome - we have stayed in many places but thought the service he gave us was exceptional. Lovely, really spacious room, comfortable bed & nice luxury touches like feather duvet & pillows. Excellent meal in the restaurant. Great quality food, cooked really well & generous portions. Also great breakfast! All in all, a very pleasurable stay & we shall look forward to returning!

Nothing really but if being picky - would be nice to have semi skimmed milk available not just whole milk.

The location was stunning, the room was beautiful and well designed, roomy, quiet, comfortable and with great facilities. The food was just amazing, along with a wonderful team providing such a warm, friendly and helpful support throughout our stay. Thank you to everyone at The Hero for making our stay so wonderful and we look forward to returning asap.

There was nothing we did not like or could find fault with.

Perfect location for bird watching and coastal walks plus bus stop outside for days out. Excellent breakfast and evening meals.

The room we booked was on the ground floor, rather small and got quite hot during our stay. Directly outside the opening window was a public seating area. If we opened the window we could hear every conversation outside and they could hear us.. Not ideal. Shower should have been cleaner than it was.

Loved the look of the place, very cosy, very cute. And location was perfect for what we needed. Evening meal and breakfast was great.

Overall, it was acceptably clean. However, some elements were a little tired. The bed linens and towels felt old. We also don't have pets, and while we were aware it's a pet friendly hotel, the muddy floors and wet dog smell when entering rooms/ pub would probably put us off staying again.

We booked on a whim and short notice as in the area. We had the Gun Hill suite which was wonderful. Spacious room, fridge, tv, coffee n tea etc all needs were met and more. Fresh bright decor and a view down the road to the sea front. The breakfast was superb, best poached eggs and oatiest black pudding too I must add!! All in all. The Hero is a great find and a little gem. Thank you guys 💐

It was described as "sea view" which is really pushing it - the sea was a mile away - you had a tiny bit of a view down a lane towards the sea from one window On booking.com it said checkout was 10:30 but when we arrived we were told it was 10am which was tight as breakfast was only served from 8:30 or 8:45 ish - although we were not under great pressure leaving at 10:15 It was £200 which was expensive for what we got - £150 would have been fair value

I stayed in for two nights. Location is wonderful, staff very friendly. Bed comfortable, plenty of pillows. Bathroom spacious Very good restaurant and breakfast.

My room was not clean between my nights. I did not mind that the bed was not made, but I did struggle with the French press not being cleaned which meant that I needed to get rid of coffee remains and rinse it in the sink in the bathroom - not ideal. I also had an early start before the breakfast hours, so I asked for a breakfast to go - I was made a cheese sandwich which was very basic - brown poor quality bread with grated cheddar, but nothing else in it. I have expected a tiny bit better breakfast for the price. It would be also wonderful if the team invested in better quality bread - it would add to the overall offer as it is not a cheap place. The shutters let a lot of light in and there aren't any curtains - I have forgotten my eye mask and could not sleep in the morning.
