Great location, central to our needs. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and food and choice were good. Would certainly come back to stay again. The room itself was clean and comfortable and tastefully decorated. We liked it. Bar and restaurant were excellent, with a breakfast included perfect for us.

Our only minor criticism was the room size, especially the shower and toilet, which was a little small. When washing, you knocked on the door, and it banged the wall, potentially waking other guests, but for the money, location, and facilities here, and for just a short stay was perfect for our needs.

We did raise concerns with the owner about the toilet handle.. Temperamental at best and really quite frustrating to use, also the WiFi drops in and out but when it's on its fine and finally there is a bit of mould in the shower cubicle, it's only a small problem but it's there,

The location of this pub/hotel is along some country roads and it is very secluded. The pub has a gastro vibe, and we ate an evening meal which was very good. The room itself was within a converted barn, or maybe it was purpose built. We had a ground floor room (there were a few rooms on the 1st floor). Our room had a terrace outside with wooden seating that backed out onto a lawn. The room was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The following morning, we had a good breakfast, with continental items and a cooked breakfast.

For breakfast, the eggs benedict would be better served with ham rather than bacon.

We were given a warm reception on arrival and the staff were helpful throughout our stay. The front bar felt like an actual pub, rather than a holding area for a restaurant and it was great to see locals come in for a drink. We were able to choose where to sit - inside our out - and there was no issue when we moved from one spot to another. The food was fantastic. Not just impressive descriptions but properly prepared and delivered. The dishes had flare and originality, without trying too hard. The room was quiet and it was great to have a little patio area outside the door. The decor was basic but fine for us. Being allowed to stow our bikes away in the shed was a bonus.

Nice old pub with lovely gardens in a quiet village location. We liked that the rooms were away from the main pub so no risk of noisy evenings, but actually this is more of a restaurant with a small bar attached than a pub with a restaurant attached, so there is probably low chance of that. The room was fairly small, but smart, clean and comfortable. We liked that the doors opened onto a quiet patio. Dining room and food offering was good.

Reception staff were a little...disinterested and not particularly welcoming, but all waiting staff were pleasant and in general efficient. The restaurant menu is very GastroPub and our meals did look wonderful, but didn't quite deliver on flavour. Truffle and Parmesan chips tasted great, but they really need to be crispy!

This is an exceptional find so should I be telling everybody about it??! The White Horse Inn is one of those places you have to want to travel to as it only reached down a single-track road with passing places until you get to the idyllic little village of Compton Bassett. The White Horse Inn itself is a pub - obviously - but so much more than that. The owners are welcoming, the food is exceptional, and the accommodation is comfortable and adequate. But it is the overall experience of being there - even if for one night as we did - that makes it so special and for which I am happy to rate it a 'ten'. The evening meal was some of the best food I've ever eaten at a pub, and the breakfast the following morning was THE BEST full English I've ever had - bar none! Well done for having wonderful ales and cider on tap and making our stay there a genuine experience that we are happy to pass on, and we would ... we will be staying there again.

There was nothing to complain about - seriously, nothing at all

We've eaten at The White Horse before so, as we were looking for somewhere to stay, we opted to book a room here. Despite being a pub, the accommodation was very quiet. Everything worked well and the breakfast was excellent. We also had dinner here in the delightful dining room and the cooking was very good, as before. The waiting staff were efficient and friendly. This place is well run.

The White Horse is not alone in this but why, in quite a big double room, is there only one easy chair?

The room was lovely, and the rooms are set well behind the pub and restaurant. There is lovely outdoor seating. The setting is extremely peaceful and well located for exploring the historic landscapes around Avebury. Hamish was welcoming and helpful, and our evening meal was fantastic. It was a lovely place to escape from it all and celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Excellent breakfast well cooked and good portions. Delivered quickly and staff were very friendly. Excellent country location with plenty of car parking. Prices for beers and wines were good. Very clean and tidy in the bar and restaurant. This is a little gem of a place to stay in you can see why it has a four star rating

Toilet and shower a bit cramped close together, but for one night not a problem. Very little to dislike.

Lovely terrace from room overlooking fields. Comfortable, large bed. Bedroom surprisingly cool, given outside high temperature - benefit of old, thick walls presumably. Delicious food. Friendly staff providing great service
