For me it was a great place to stay for a few days. It checked all my requirements: clean and welcoming room with its own bathroom, hot water (really important for me :)) ), quiet atmosphere (great for a good night rest), considerate staff (patient, smiling all the time, communicative and they recommended a great place to eat dinner), near by the city center, good WiFi.
For me these weren't a problem, but maybe it may concern others - the room is really small, so if you prefer hotels with spacious rooms this is not the place for you. Also the window is really small, so there is not too much natural light in the room. The breakfast is not too rich, doesn't have many options, however there are many places near the hotel where you can grab a good coffee and a sandwich or a muffin on the go.

First things first, the location is ideal and simply cannot be beat. You are right there in the center a stones throw away from pubs, restaurants and shops. (Pro tip: Do not miss the Foundry brewpub for excellent food and drinks!) However, where the hotel truly excels is with their staff. The reception staff also manages breakfast and the bar. Quite a challenge during peak hours, however they more than make do. Whether they are checking you in or making sure you have enough toast for breakfast, they are very friendly and helpful. The same goes for the housekeeping! I was in a deluxe room which is fully carpeted. Not an easy feat to keep clean, however the whole room was absolutely spotless. The room was cleaned daily and more importantly, the biscuits at the coffee and teamaker were also replenished daily! If you’re looking for a friendly and comfortable hotel in Canterbury, look no further. If your budget allows for it, the deluxe rooms are well worth the little bit of extra money. We really enjoyed our stay and I’m pretty sure you would too!
The main street can be a bit noisy. With the windows closed it’s not that bad, but if you’re a light sleeper you may want to request a room at the side or back of the hotel. Also, keep in mind that like most buildings in England, they are not built for (very) warm weather. If it is hot outside, it will be warm inside. Thankfully, a fan was provided which made it perfectly manageable.

The hotel was conveniently right in the centre of the City in the old pedestrian quarter, so there was no buzz of traffic, and plenty of places to eat close by. The bedroom was very clean and warm (it was very cold outside) and the bed was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was explained in advance that there was no hot breakfast, but the spread of cold offerings was just right for us.
It was not the hotel's fault, but the City's refuse collections vehicles made a loud noise very early in the morning just outside the hotel.

They weren't serving cooked breakfast during my week, but the choice of things was good. There was some building works going on. Room comfortable and quiet, which was surprising as it was next to the theatre. Great location for getting around the area and I travelled to Deal, Ramsgate Whitstable using either trains of buses - all very easy. So much to see in Canterbury and remember to check out what's on at the Marlowe theatre - I saw Sister Act, which wasn't planned!
My room was serviced on my last night stay which was disappointing. Staff were informed.

The hotel is an easy walk from the station and located in the heart of town. Loads of restaurants and shopping in car free area nearby. Lovely river walk. Hotel is convenient and staff were pleasant and helpful. Continental breakfast was good. Very happy to have visited Canterbury and stayed at The Pilgrims.
The Cathedral is currently undergoing renovations. The room I stayed in was small...perfectly comfortable as I was on my own, but if there are 2 of you with luggage it may be a bit cramped. It was also up 2 flights of stairs ... which was also no problem for me.

The pilgrims hotel was a great place to stay in Canterbury in a ideal location for town and the sights as they were only few minutes walk away. The staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. It got very hot in our room at night but we were given a fan which helped alot. The breakfast was very nice with great choice and fresh warm pastries which we loved. We would definitely choose to stay here again.
The only thing that bothered me was the side door to the building for late evening entry for guests people would slam this door and it was very loud.

Incredibly clean in the bedroom and bathroom, quite exceptional. A great shower space too. The room size (we were in "Paris") was extremely generous. All of the furniture was solid and well designed.
The towel rail in the bathroom was super hot and we could not find a way of turning it down, it was so hot, it warmed the bedroom area. We found the mattress particularly hard which will suit some but not us. A lot of hotels have moved to 'continental' breakfast and there was a good spread but a cooked breakfast to set you up for the day would have been preferable. The Hotel could not be held responsible for this next comment but there was a shop being refitted and work was being carried out from 07:30 to 23:00; even over the weekend, on a Sunday in the city of religious pilgrimage. We were surprised the Council would let them do this let alone, disappointed by the drill and saw noises. Our room was overlooking the High Street so we expected some party noise but not the workmen.

We stayed here before, and if we come back to Canterbury we will stay again. The location is great, and the rooms are spacious and clean. They receently renovated the pub and bar space on the ground floor so it looks extra nice! Staff is friendly and the overall vibe is great.
We stayed in the same room as last time, but this time it was way more noisy, although it was a weekday. I believe there were some works going on outside. From the people at breakfast in the morning I assume not all the rooms were full, so it would have been nice to have that extra attention to detail and possibly be assigned a different room. We communicated weeks in advance that we were both vegan, and were assured there were vegan options at the continental breakfast. These were toast with margarine and jam - none of the pastries were vegan. I expected a little more considering the average vegan options available at hotels nowadays.

The hotel is in an amazing location, next to the Marlowe theatre, and the high street. Our room had plenty of space for us, and the continental breakfast (no hot food, which is pretty clear on hotel description) was lovely. Shower was good, water hot, room warm, bed cosy. Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel has a bar (which as a guest you get 10% discount). We stayed for three nights, which allowed us to dump the car (the hotel like most hotels in Canterbury has no car parking, but the hotel can provide a discount for the local public car park - budget on about £15 a day for that). Hotel was great value for money, exceeded our expectations and we would happily return.
There was nothing that we werent expecting.

The hotel is very quaint and in a wonderful location for the Marlow Theatre and many restaurants . Close to the city centre too and about 10 minutes to walk to Canterbuy West Station. The staff are lovely , the rooms are in keeping with the old part of the city and just right. The continental breakfast is really nice and much better than other places I've been too, and constantly refilled. It's literally 2 minutes to the Theatre which was great! You could almost pop back to your room during the interval and still have time for a drink before the second half of the show ! I would definitely stay here again!
The stairs were a little steep to the rooms, but that's just because the hotel is charming and historic. I found the pillows a little heavy , but again, it's personal choice.
