Absolutely stunning, The venue was hosting a wedding at the time of our stay. We were emailed prior to arriving, offering us a free cancellation. We chose to continue with our trip, and we had an undisturbed stay. You could hear the events of the wedding in the reception areas but nothing from our room. The room was warm and comfortable, and the hotel itself and the grounds were stunning. An absolute treat. Could not fault it.

There is absolutely nothing to fault, I think on a personal note, we would have preferred to have our breakfast in our rooms, as this was a buffet style breakfast with all the wedding guests. But that's a personal preference, not complaint or fault. Hotel was stunning.

lovely reception staff beautiful grounds and building good parking rooms were clean and extra pillows nice bathroom

there was a wedding on (which was fine) but when we came back to the hotel there was nowhere for us to sit and have a drink so we went to our room lots of the food had run out at breakfast and we had to ask staff to replace it- we waited for sausages then toast and gave up on some things- staff we're all lovely and obviously busy but we paid £120 for the night and breakfast and shouldn't have cold toast and no sausages! bed was a bit small and soft

The hotel has a lot of character and is set in beautiful grounds that give a real sense of wellbeing. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had an evening meal on both occasions we have stayed at the hotel and the food was lovely, with generous portions! Both times we have stayed at Astley Bank, there have been functions on and I can see why someone would choose this place for a wedding or special celebration. Although a little dated, the rooms were clean and of a decent size. Despite the fact there were functions being held at the hotel, we still managed to have a good night’s sleep and were not disturbed by any noise late at night! The buffet breakfast was good, with a reasonable range of cereals, yogurts and hot food etc.

We really liked our short stays at Astley Bank and there was nothing we didn’t like. However, because the bar area is quite small; when there are private functions being held, it would be good to have an alternative comfortable area for residents who are not attending the function to be able to sit and have a drink.

Staff are all lovely. Breakfast pastries were excellent, as were the sausages when they eventually arrived.

Paying £120 when I could have got a room for £53 if I’d waited a bit longer. Mattress not pocket sprung so rolled into the middle all night. Room wasn’t quiet (unlike previous years) - could hear the party downstairs until about 00.30. Breakfast - took a while to restock items when empty and those that were there when we arrived were stone cold. Bathroom door (room 32) needs some WD40 on the hinges.

Having stayed before, we knew what to expect and weren't disappointed. Great value for a midweek stay and would heartily recommend Room 28 if it is available. We didn't eat at the hotel other than breakfast .

The only negative we had was that the buffet breakfast was barely warm and served with unheated plates which made the meal less appealing than it should have been. We got round this partially by requesting poached eggs from the kitchen which arrived on warm plates and were cooked to perfection.

We were on the top floor and the views were fantastic. The grounds are also lovely. The room had everything we need, it was a decent size and a very comfortable sleep. We didnt eat but food smelt great. Other hotels in the area have an 11pm curfew so this is a fantastic option if you are having an evening out in the area.

We were meeting friends for drinks in Darwen so wanted to walk to the restaurant (just 5 mins away) - the road out of the hotel is not lit, has no path and is not even. I would recommend anyone staying to go out for the evening uses a taxi to get to their destination.

Staff in reception, bar and evening restaurant were very helpful. Large bedroom with peeiod features. Lovely grand building and grounds. Good evening meal.

Staff were clearly not expecting so.many people to come down the breakfast when it opened at 8am on Sunday. This was probably due to the fire alarm going off early in the morning. There was not enough cooked food prepared for the guests and so people had to wait for more food to be cooked. I was not told that I had to ask for toast and so did not have any.

Excellent staff - friendly, helpful and professional. The hotel is set in lovely grounds with plenty of outdoor seating. The breakfast was great. We had self service the first two mornings in the light, airy conservatory overlooking the garden. The last morning we had the smaller dining room to ourselves and the a la carte menu which had some extra choices. Car parking is unobtrusive and plenty of spaces. One of the rooms had views over the garden and countryside beyond.

The showers in both rooms were difficult to control, particularly temperature. They were either too cold or scalding hot. Pressure was low, so not the best experience. One room had views over the roof and rusty fire escape which was disappointing as we had paid the same for both.

The location was very good for us as it was only 5 miles from our son and his family. The breakfasts were very good value and there was a good choice, especially when it was waitress service - buffet style when there were a lot of guests. The evening meal we had was very good and they catered for Gluten Free. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and professional.

Our room this time was rather small. We were given this room as there was a wedding happening on the last night of our stay and they didn't want us to be too disturbed by the event. We weren't disturbed. The window didn't close properly but as the weather was warm this wasn't a problem. When adivised of this, the receptionist made a note to get it sorted.

Stayed for a couple of nights for work. Room and hotel grounds were excellent, with a large free car park and very grandiose entrance. Make sure you don't turn into the Care Home on the way up the drive to the Hotel, as the signage is a bit confusing at first.

Breakfast was served from 7am, which was fine, with a good variety of cooked breakfast items, cereals and fruit. The only quibble I have is that the breakfast offering was inconsistent on each of the two consecutive days I tried it. One day there were no labels on the tea, coffee and hot water jugs, leading to an unfortunate incident where I poured coffee mistakenly onto my tea bag. This was rectified on the second day. However, there was black pudding available on the first day but not on the second.
