The room was very comfortable, quiet, light and airy with windows that opened for a cool breeze, and dark at night with no annoying blue lights that can't be turned off. There was a fan/ac/heater for other times. Lots of space for me as a single traveller. A comfortable bed, real coffee as well as tea in this room. Checked in earlier than expected and they were ready for my arrival and all the staff I met were professional, warm and friendly. The building has character, a great menu for diners, a big car park for drivers and is locally-owned, with friendly staff and as such is much nicer (and feels safer) than a soul-less chain.

The only down-side was the slightly dated 'grey' decor in the bedroom, but that's just not my taste. I would have liked to see fresh fruit, yoghurt and other less 'meaty' breakfast items on the breakfast menu. I'm not keen on eggs (and love a bit of home-made muesli with yoghurt - which is easy for a kitchen to do). A newspaper or even an old magazine would be good for solo travellers to read over breakfast.

Booked Garden rooms, lovely and quiet as opposed to road noise from front.. Friendly helpful staff, really clean comfy rooms.. And the food was AWESOME. Had dinner both nights, fabulous steak, then chicken supreme with chorizo and marbled cream basil sauce, which was sensational (My sincere compliments Chef!!)

The only thing, which I do understand, as there are only 5-6 rooms so probably it isn't viable to stock ingredients and staff the kitchen, is not doing breakfast during the week. If there was somewhere/someone local to deliver a breakfast option that could be a solution, just so guests can eat before departure in the morning? Like a 'Just Eat' option perhaps? Only a thought...

Breakfast was very good and service was quick and served by a very friendly efficient lady.

Guests across the corridor from our bedroom who were swearing, fighting and throwing things for 45 minutes from 1 a.m. It sounded as if the man was hitting his girlfriend. My daughter was so frightened that she nearly called the Police. If there had been a phone in the room to contact a staff member, we could have let them know what was happening. We feel sure there must have been considerable damage to their room, which would be terrible for the hotel owner.

Bed very comfortable and food was excellent. So glad we asked what a Jacob's ladder was. Not to be missed. Also make a very good pot of tea - a rarity these days. Understand they do now do breakfasts but we had made other plans thinking they didn't.

Sadly the pub garden was below our bedroom window and despite being shut we received unwanted cigarette smoke. On the other hand the party shut down promptly and all was quiet for when we wanted to go to sleep.

Beautiful comfortable rooms in a historic pub. With an excellent restaurant/bar. Room was good size and well appointed with large bed, nespresso machine, still and sparkling water, biscuits. Bathroom was well appointed with lots of products and plenty of towels. I was greeted by a friendly member of staff, and other staff I saw were very friendly and offered good food and drinks recommendations.

Bathroom fan is on the loud side - this is nit picking.

It was in a great location for where we needed to visit. It was clean, tidy and had everything we needed. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

The bed was a bit small. There was only one bath towel between both of us. The room was over the garden area, which was aesthetically nice, but the music was a tad loud.

The staff were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. Very clean and comfortable room with daily housekeeping. The Blue Anchor itself is situated in the midst of everywhere we wanted to visit. Finally had a meal in the award winning restaurant, it certainly didn't disappoint.

Lovely food, comfy beds, welcoming staff, nice decor, everything you need in the rooms.

Bathroom smelly with sewage smell, toilet flush was weak. The road was noisy. We needed the windows open, or it was too stuffy, but the constant stream of cars made it hard to sleep.

Big carpark opposite. Friendly staff on arrival. Evening meal and breakfast was very good, although a little pricey. The room was clean and well presented, although cool when we arrive, we switched the radiators on and it got warm quickly. The location of the room was very quiet, overlooking the rear courtyard. 15 minute walk to Kelvedon Train Station and 20 minutes train to Colchester.

The bed was very soft, not our preference. There was little signage for the car park opposite the venue and we missed this and had to turn around and got stuck in traffic.

Beds were super comfy. Really well laid out room. Great personalised touch with homemade mini shortbreads! We were able to check in earlier so we could get ready for a wedding happening at Braxted Park and that really helped us out.

Only two things could have improved our stay. A soft closer on the doors downstairs would aid in a smoother drop off to sleep - we found it to be rather noisy between 1030 and 1130pm. Also would have been great if breakfast started earlier than 9am on a weekend - we had to leave at 8am.
