I was given a lovely room with plenty of space. The bathroom was small, but clean and all necessary toiletries were of good quality. A generous tea tray of coffee, tea and hot chocolate as well as biscuits. I had control of the heating, so could keep it cooler, how I prefer it. I had a key to the back door, so could come in late if I wished. It was also lovely and quiet during the night, so I slept well.

The only downside to this friendly and warm inn is that driving out of the car park is to be done with caution as on a bend, but that is hardly an issue! Otherwise all good - I would definitely visit again.

Super dog friendly, perfect location...perfect hosts with amazing comfy beds and breakfast heaven ... Lots of soft towels, a very relaxed atmosphere, and a decent quality toilet roll. Room 5 was spacious, had a nice bath in the bathroom, and shower gel shampoo soap provided. 2 beds , a fan and plenty of tea coffee hot chocolate and biscuits too... The bar is warm and welcoming with super friendly staff and locals x 3 min stroll into town. Nice secure grasses beer garden where dogs can run x Would stay again and 100% recommend Richard recommended some lovely places to eat x

As soon as we arrived we felt very welcome. It's a great place to stay. We had so much fun that we were laughing from the moment we got there till 2 days later when we left. The Landlord Richard is a great guy and very funny. It was clean and comfortable. Great choice for breakfast, cereals, toast, fruit juices, different teas, filtered coffee, the freshly cooked full English was delicious. The locals in there made us feel very welcome as well. I would highly recommend the Dog Inn. We absolutely loved it.

Not a thing

I was warmly welcomed at approx 6pm by the owner at the bar and asked what time I'd like breakfast in the morning. A full English Breakfast - YUMMY! Time wasn't an issue and we agreed that 7.30am was good. I was then taken up to my room. When the door was opened I was delighted to see a very tidy well decorated room with two single beds - lovely decor with lots of heat! The radiator was on a thermostat and there was a window which I could open if I needed to. There was a TV, ensuite shower/toilet room and tea/coffee available. The beds were so comfortable and had very clean white linen with lovely white towels and some toiletries. I had my dog Margot staying with me too ready for a Field Trial the next day. There was a large car park with ample parking and a small garden at the bottom where I could take her out before we went to bed. We slept very well and the breakfast was delicious!! 5 star all round - amazing. Would definitely recommend to all. Thank you for a great stay.

Nothing - it was just perfect!

The location was very good for what I wanted to do. The pub was very friendly and the locals made me feel welcome from the start. The breakfast was excellent and did till evening meal time. Richard was very friendly and made me feel very welcome,nothing was too much trouble and kept an excellent pint of beer.

The wash basin in room 2 was very small in the bathroom. With a glass shelf over it. So it was very difficult to wash and rinse my face as I could not get my head in over the basin when shaving but there’s ways of doing things. The removal of the shelf to one side would make it easier. But this would not put me off going back as it was a very relaxing place.

The breakfast was great. Plenty of choice and Richard was very accommodating😊 Lovely little pub with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and an excellent host in Richard😊 Richard even ran us back to Headingham Castle to retrieve our cars on the morning after a wedding and made a booking for us at Shish - excellent local Turkish restaurant. We would definitely stay again.

We stayed for two nights. However, the mugs and spoons were not replaced with clean ones. A bottle of water each was provided on the first night but again not replaced for the second night and there were no glasses so we didn’t have anything to even have water from the tap. There was a single towel rail in the bathroom but not sufficient for two people to hang towels up to dry - hooks on the bathroom door would alleviate this problem and hooks to hang coats on the back of the bedroom door would also be useful. The wi-fi was not great☹️ These were minor things which I am sure will be easily and quickly resolved - just housekeeping tweaks😊

I picked the perfect spot for my solo stay to break up my travels. Richard was the perfect host, great local pub, friendly punters. The single I room I had was perfect, super clean and modern and the bed was SO comfortable and it’s on suite bathroom was a lovely surprise, for the value I didn’t expect it’s comfortably! Richard makes a lovely breakfast using all local produce, delicious, great coffee, juices, bread for toast making and cereals in the pub’s lovely setting. Don’t book a travel lodge book here! you won’t regret it! So important to keep these rare local pubs going! Free parking at the pub, just around the corner to the town centre (where I had a decent Thai dinner) was very quite in the room - I had my window open all night! Loved the sky sports to watch with a beer or two before sleep as well and great chats with his lovely locals. Yep loved it. Thanks Richard!

Comfortable, easy going especially as I was on my own I felt safe the entire time

It actually felt like a home from home. A clean, bright, spacious room on the first floor of a traditional pub of the sort that, sadly, you very rarely find these days. Free of slot machine culture, it boasts a small, relaxed ,genuine, local clientele. Throw in a friendly and welcoming host and a breakfast to die for, and you are wanting for nothing.

Had a warm welcome from Richard the proprietor, made to feel at home, it was nice to spend time in a traditional pub where the landlord and customers were really friendly. A little concerned that they did not offer evening meals but that concern was soon put to bed by Richard who recommended a Turkish restaurant literally a few minutes' walk away which was really nice and large portions. Room was clean and warm and had all required facilities, comfy bed so had a great night's sleep. Breakfast which had all local produce was brilliant. A most enjoyable and memorable stay, looking forward to returning.

Fantastic small pub with comfortable good size clean room with nice size bed. Nice touch was the plentiful choice of tea's and coffee in the room plus a couple bottles of water. Good TV with lots of channels. The full English breakfast was excellent...even a gluten free option for my wife ! The Pub is just a short walk into the town of Halstead which is handy for the local restaurants.
