We stay here for a night or two (occassionally longer) three or four times a year because Halstead suits us well for visiting friends and family. It's an original tutor inn and has some of the original timber structural beams. The staff are always welcoming and very friendly and do their best to please. They're a good team. The hot breakfast is well cooked and satisfying. There are also cereals on offer. It's still quite a traditional kind of English pub, but it also has quite a good menu for lunch and dinner too. It's got a spacious garden where they serve food in the summer. It's good value for money.

Since we stay here quite a lot, we know what the place is like, so the following things are NOT a problem for US, but for some others they may be. Because of it's age, the bathrooms are not easy to maintain and there might be plumbing issues. The floors are not even and you may need to bend down to pass under some of the aforementioned beams. The stairs to the rooms are quite steep and of course there is no lift. However, there are rooms in the annex at the back that would not have accessibilty problems - we've never stayed in the annex.

The Bull inn is very unique, great decor, amazing rustic ceilings very country life feel to it, the staff were incredibly polite and able to understand my accent easily :) Ben the Manager, thank you, :) when I had a complaint about my room, he instantly helped me and moved me to another room, no animosity and had a total understanding of my requirements and that made the stay a little more comforting for me :) I will definitely book here again when visiting family:)

Room 19 was the only room I didn't like haha, this room is next to the water mains supply cupboard so it sounded like a washing machine on cycle all night haha it can be quite loud and keep you awake, that was literally my only issue was lack of sleep due to this noise lol,

This is a great place to stay. Located at the bottom of the town in Halstead, it has easy access to all the local shops, restaurants, supermarkets and cafes. The accommodation was very clean with the room serviced every day - bins emptied and clean towels always left. Compact room but had everything we needed - television, tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, fan, storage facilities and a hairdryer. Good sized shower room. The choice at breakfast was very good - you can choose from either continental or Full English (or both if you're feeling hungry!). A good choice of food on the evening menu. Always a table available in the evenings. I can recommend the steak night on a Thursday evening. All the staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. The light stopped working in our bathroom but was checked and repaired within minutes. The public areas are also very clean and well kept. A good sized car park for off road parking. No noise heard at night. Very reasonable price for a 4-night stay including breakfast. I have already booked to return in October!

The only disappointment was no bacon at breakfast on the first morning and the first 2 choices we selected from the menu on the first evening weren't available. No other issues at all.

Little bit dated furniture and some fixtures not finished which just let the property down ie bathroom flooring,repairs around bath, grouting in bathroom needed a deep clean

Decent breakfast, quirky pub, friendly staff and quite cheap

Furniture very tired, kept bumping my head on the low door frames and low beams. Not much selection for the continental breakfast. No toaster, very small hot water urn, which wasn’t filled so there wasn’t enough for everyone at breakfast time. Small shower cubicle and constant noise of running water in the room. Needs another method to block out the light from the corridor. Steep stairs to the bedrooms and creaking flooring.

This hotel is part of the Green king franchise and was above a pub. It was in the centre of the town and had lots of different restaurants situated around it which was handy as we didn’t fancy pub grub. The room was amazing! The super king bed was so comfortable and the room was spotless and warm which was lovely after a long day. The staff couldn’t go out of their way enough and also made recommendations for the restaurants around the area. I have to say thank you to the blonde lady with glasses who checked us in. She was such a laugh and is defo an asset to the place.

Only thing is if your tall you do have to bend down abit to get through some places as it’s a lovely old building so doorways and ceilings can be on the small side haha

We stay here for 2 or 3 nights about 3 times a year when visiting friends and family in the area. We always find the staff friendly, polite and welcoming. The room and bathroom are well cleaned. The staff will happily provide you with extra tea, coffee and milk to have in you room, and towels too if required. The breakfast on offer is really good, both if you want full English, or a lighter breakfast of cereal or pastries. It's a cosy historical inn with a decent pub food menu. There is a good sized carpark at the back and beer garden too. As I've said in previous reviews, this is a historical building - some parts from the 14th century, so you won't find big designer furnished rooms with huge windows and immaculate bathrooms. In the main building you will find crooked, beams, uneven floors, steep steps and slightly off square window with stays. However, we like it the way it is. The annex at the back has more modern rooms.

Staff were excellent and very friendly Dinner in the restaurant was excellent It was not noisy! The bed was comfortable and the bed linen clean and crisp.

This is a very old building and it must be very difficult to maintain the structure. Our room certainly could have been revamped as the furniture was old, basic and marked. The window would not stay open. None of the above spoilt our one night stay with a good dinner they are for remarks only.

Really enjoyed my stay and do every time I've stayed shame 1 plug near tv and one at some the bed you can't plug anything into as won't take a plug

Pillows was bit hard and bumpy and plugs need repair as couple you can't plug anything into 1 under tv on right and 1 at side the bed nearest to door only can use 1 plug socket section too Room 18

I used ot t9ngey ready for my wedding. It was a bot small and the shower has seen better days but it was clean amd comfortable and the staff were pleasant.I missed breakfast bit that eas my fault. The locations os very good the xarpark is a bit small for rhe amount of visitors this place gets but I don't suppose there is much they could do about that!

The shower was quite old and not that powerful.
