A characterful, historic pub in a tranquil village. Welcoming and well presented room with a superb view out into fields and beyond. Comfy bed and excellent ensuite. Evening meal was really good. Nice to be able to take a pint back to my room ! All-in-all was a pleasureable stay and would be happy to stop by again

Breakfast was decent enough albeit I feel didn't quite live up to the standards of the evening meal - others may beg to differ. The bar and seating area does look a bit tired, although at the same time, perhaps a bit unfair to say this given the age and character of the property

From arriving, the staff were fantastic, the room, although small had more than everything we needed, and was very comfortable anything else , just ask and they oblige, we ate in the dining room and the food was amazing, well worth the trip! breakfast was excellent as well, we were given a form to complete for what we wanted for breakfast, plenty of choice and all locally sourced.

Although they have a car park, if your driving, it is very small, 3 car spaces, but there is plenty of parking on the street outside the pub

We liked the attention to detail, the generosity and the welcome. We felt that the Royal Oak really wanted to look after us. There was plenty of tea and coffee on the hospitality tray...and biscuits and water. There were toiletries in the bathroom. The shower was powerful and hot. The breakfast was excellent...generous portions and good quality. Dinner was also excellent...plenty of fresh veg served with the meal. The location is gorgeous..we went for an 8 mile circular walk from the village before dinner.

It was all good.

The Royal Oak is clearly the hub of the village as when we arrived the bar was buzzing with locals- always a good sign! Staff were fabulously helpful and friendly and both dinner and breakfast were absolutely superb. Room was clean and comfortable and had everything you needed.

The shower was a little on the small side and the walls a little 'thin' but this did not dampen our stay in such a lovely part of the world!

Good food with choices and well prepared. Reasonably priced drinks and good ales. Friendly efficient staff. Good location for coast and dales and moors. Really good traditional country pub.

Resident rear car park facilities can get crowded.towards weekends. No allocated disabled parking place. Could introduce a wider range of non -alcoholic drinks.other than 2 non al lagers. There are Non Al ciders or gins or wine now available .But everything else is very good. Will return in future.

It was a lovely old fashioned ‘proper’ pub out in lovely countryside. One of our party is vegan and she had a choice for all courses. There were vegan options at breakfast too including milk and butter alternatives. Very relaxed and friendly.

Our only grievance was the showers were a bit weak, possibly influenced by how much water was being drawn off in other places.

The village doesn't have a cafe or any shops, but the Royal oak is a lovely pub/hotel and the food there is excellent. Breakfast and dinner was served by wonderful staff and was the best food we have had in years.

Portions served at dinner was a bit too large for us. Hubby would have liked fried bread at breakfast.R

Its a very small town. It has nothing else except this unique local hotel. Most local people seem to work here or have an economic link to this place. The rooms are nice and clean. The breakfast is an experience and unique. The dinner menu’s are a true delight. The kitchen chef is a master. We ate here for two nights because we were exited about the first diner. The local nature park is a true beauty. Go and see!

Nothing.

Lovely accommodation just outside Helmsley. Need a car to get to, but great alternative to the overpriced accommodation in Helmsley. Very clean and has the advantage of an arm chair in the room, so you don't have to sit on the bed and a Hairdryer.

Accommodation described as having no parking, however there is parking at the rear. Upon check-out the front door was locked, so we had to exit out the back, through the car park and walk all the way around to the front where our car was parked? One young waiter in the restaurant could do with more training.
