The hotel is in a stunning location and the building is both historic and beautiful. Good coffee with breakfast and salmon with scrambled eggs was both generous and tasty.

The hotel changed ownership a few years ago, we have stayed here several times. Whilst still pretty good overall the standards are not quite what they were. Dinner was pretty disappointing where it was previously excellent, the menu and ingredients were fine but quality of cooking below par. Small things like bread with breakfast being pre-sliced bread not home baked fresh bread/rolls as was once the case. Overall experience just not quite as special/not the same attention to detail. Could be great with a few small tweaks and maybe a stronger team in the kitchen.

Lovely small country house feel - beautifully furnished, perfect for relaxing with lovely staff

Our room only had an exposed bath in the room and no shower - It looked good but didn't suit us. The small bathroom could do with a shelf or two for washbags and there were no areas with good enough lighting or mirrors to do contact lenses /makeup. The evening dinner menu was limited as some parts of dishes were pre-prepared/brought in. For some reason even though the were hardly any sittings for dinner available, we were almost totally on our own in the dining room - this was OK but just felt strange. Staff were lovely though.

The hotel is in a lovely, peaceful location and the staff were very friendly. There is a nice bar, good food menu and very nice breakfast. They also offer 10% discount voucher for the local cafe, Slates. The village has a regular bus, so you can park up and not have to negotiate the narrow local roads when you go exploring/walking. There are obviously local walks along the river and around the lake too. There is a nice pub 5 mins from the hotel, Britannia Inn, which was popular and did good food. We would like to make a special mention to Talullah & Ruby, who were lovely and very helpful during our stay.

Our main gripe was the evening we booked to eat at the hotel and asked for and booked a table in the bar, as it had more atmosphere, more people and piped music. When we came back from a long day's walking, we were told we had been bumped to the restaurant as somebody with a DOG had booked for a meal and they weren't allowed in the restaurant! The restaurant was totally empty and had no atmosphere. Also, during the stay, we did not get our rooms replenished on a couple of occasions (toilet paper, shower products, and once, no tea/coffee/water) and even when we asked for the room to be hoovered, after we had a small accident, and passed that on to the manager (?) it was not done. Very disappointing for the price we had paid to stay and it being 4 Star.

Loved everything about the place. It was decorated in a way that managed to combine traditional country home with odd quirky pieces, into a warm, welcoming and non pretentious environment. We stayed in both the Classic (Neddy Bogle) and Super Luxury rooms (Lingmoor), each well appointed for its price level, and both really comfortable with lovely views over Eltermere. The included breakfasts were great, offering a wide selection of fresh pastries, cereals, bread and preserves, and cooked items. The cooked breakfasts were perfectly cooked and really tasty (beautifully poached eggs in particular). We ate our evening meals there and again we felt the meals were exceptional, very well presented and delicious. The menu isn't vast, but I'm a fussy eater and I had no issues at all. I overheard other diners offering their compliments to the chefs, so we were not alone in our appreciation. Every member of staff we had contact with were fantastic, friendly, cheerful and attentive. I must make special mention of Evie, who was so lovely. She never seemed to stop working, but would immediately give you her full attention if anything was needed, we felt she went the extra mile and is a credit to the establishment.

Neddy bogle was showing its age a little in places, and some of the exterior painting needed refreshing, but none of this would put me off staying again nor recommending.

Loved the Eltermere Inn. The location was awesome— not far from Ambleside to go visit, but far enough to have quiet relaxation time. There are peacocks and peahens on the property and they were lovely to watch from our room. Breakfast was delicious, a hot menu where you order your breakfast, and a classic pastries/ cereal selection to snack while you wait. Driving and parking was tight (as it is in the Lakes) but we had an absolutely wonderful time.

Wifi was dodgy (as it is all over the Lakes) but just notable if you’re looking to do anything with video, not easy!

Helpful and attentive staff. The location was very good. Conveniently close to hiking routes and town centres, but still away from the crowds. The rooms and other facilities were very clean and well looked after. We are happy with our stay. 100% recommended.

I was unable to eat something at 8:10 pm one evening. It is too early to close the kitchen in my opinion. They may choose to do so. But still, considering the location, there should be some sort of snacks (other than bar crisps) available at the hotel/inn.

The hotel is in a wonderful location, quiet (other than the peacocks) and very convenient for all the hiking we wanted to do. Comfortable rooms. Nice common area. Friendly staff.

There were a few things that the hotel could do with improving. It’s evident that some of the staff need more training. House keeping especially. Small items that were broken, not working, missing were noted and I’m sure they will be taken care of. It would be appreciated not to have the vacuuming done during breakfast 😀

Breakfast was excellent, beautiful spaces to relax inside and out. location stunning. huge skies, lush landscape, waterfalls, streams, bridges all within walking distance. Staff were friendly and helpful. Quiet and comfortable rooms. Even the other guests were delightful.

No hair conditioner provided. We had a standard room with a shower; but on reflection, we should have paid the extra to upgrade to a room with a bath - essential for a walking and climbing holiday..

it’s location near to the walks and pubs and the beautiful views. very quiet tranquil and relaxing we enjoyed watching the resident peacocks

we were in the room furthest away which was up and down quite a few stairs and not really good for my husbands legs I appreciate that this is a dog friendly hotel. however when we had our evening meal there was a dog underneath the table next to us and we did not find this acceptable when we have allergies. in the morning for breakfast they did have a designated dog area which was fine and we couldn’t understand given the size of the property why they couldn’t do this on the evening

The location and the restaurant and bar were really nice areas. The staff were all helpful and in particular Alex was really warm and welcoming from start to finish. The food was really enjoyable with a good range to choose from.

I think that an option when booking a table for dinner would have been nice to choose to eat in the restaurant or bar. I chose to pay more to eat at the Eltermere both nights but was seated in the bar (open to the public on our first night). I felt that a table should have been reserved for those paying to stay automatically. I was disappointed and felt a little put out. Having said that-the bar is beautifully restored and has a lovely ambience should you choose to eat in the bar.
