Very pleasant old country inn of character with good sized rooms. Bed very comfortable. Small bathroom but perfectly adequate. Room rapidly warmed up when radiators switched on. TV and kettle/tea/coffee provided. Good wifi. Very comfortable residents' lounge with log burner. Good restaurant/bar with excellent, well presented evening meals. Four well kept real ales on tap. Very good cooked breakfast with wide menu choice and lots of toast and coffee Lots of free parking. Staff all very pleasant. Great location for walks up Dodds and Helvellyn

Lovely old coaching inn (new parts blended in well). Beautiful garden, outside area, views. Bus stop outside. Good food and superb sticky toffee pudding! Personally I would have preferred a buffet breakfast and better bread for the toast. Pretty, compact room. Helpful, pleasant staff.

Cleaning non existent during 4 night stay. Only the bed made (more or less). No towel change and nowhere to hang to dry apart from small towel rail in the bathroom. We were given used liquid soap (nearly empty) and bath gel and no replacements during the stay. No shower cap and my own that I brought seemed to have been thrown away during the 'cleaning'! Although not common in the UK a hand held jet spray by the loo would be useful.

I liked alot about this place. Ideal base for numerous walks. Pub attached to the hotel so perfect place to unwind after a climb up Helvellyn. A good choice of ales and a bonus TV with sport if that's your thing. Staff were all very accommodating and attentive. Service was prompt and professional. We were also staying in the hotel room 3 overlooking the front of the hotel so nice views. Standard double size room with comfortable bed. Separate shower room & toilet. Also a large TV at the foot of the bed. We had breakfast and dinner both days. Breakfast was very nice and plenty of. We both opted for the full English both days. Dinner was a good choice of traditional dishes. Again we had both nights. The ambiance of the hotel was traditional warm and friendly. Typical of an old country inn. Excellent!

Nothing not to like really. A bit picky but nowhere to hang coats, towels etc in the bedroom or bathroom. Hotel also located next to a busy main road. Can be quite noisy at times.

Great staff, very friendly. Have been here many times over the years. It has had a partial refurb since I last stayed and looks much fresher now. Very cosy, great food. Breakfast is always fabulous. Very helpful knowledgeable staff. I've always ended up in Room 1 for some weird reaon which has a great view but is rather small. Would love to try some of the other more spacious rooms. I've always been well looked after here and will be back.

Nothing much to dislike. Our room had been partly refurbished but the en-suite was still original which wasn't great. The lunch take away sandwiches were pretty poor... very dry; no chutney with the ham and the tuna had very little mayo.

The location was superb for accessing several of the lake trails. The view from our room was stunning. All staff were very friendly and approachable; and did their utmost to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The breakfast was included in the price and included, cereal, toast and various cooked options. We were impressed with the cleanliness and they have achieved a mix of modern decor whilst retaining some of the original character and features. We would highly recommend!

The only slight drawback was our room was a little small for us.

The staff are absolutely amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. A lovely separate lounge area for the guests is available and plenty of outdoor seating on a terrace and lower garden area. The location is perfect.

The moment we arrived we were told that the blind in the room had been broken the day before but someone had been alerted to come and fix it. We had a 3 night stay and it wasn't fixed by the time we left. A bit annoying because we'd booked a view room of the hills across the way, with the blinds permanently down, we were left with a very dark room, and the side window of the car park. The room was a little small, and we bumped our legs on the edge of the bed on several occasions. The evening menu was a little uninspiring. Would have liked some lighter evening food options.

Excellent breakfast, good dinner, good beers. Most of the staff were very friendly. Beautiful and convenient location for hikers.

Multiple small defects in the room were taken together somewhat annoying. Room relatively small and not very functionally equipped: Very little shelf space; no hooks to hang things, not even for the hotel's own towels; no toilet roll holder, etc. Unclear where to put the numerous cushions when one wants to sleep. Very small wardrobe whose space was already partly used up by the hotel's own items (hairdryer etc.). As written above, the majority of the staff were very nice. The manager however treated me with an odd reservedness from the very first moment. Maybe because I arrived on a bicycle? Or because I am a foreigner?

Very friendly staff. Breakfast was fantastic; never have I seen so much fruit served with pancakes before (sliced banana, blueberries and strawberries). The shower in the en-suite did not look particularly amazing on first-glance but it's the best hotel shower I've ever used. Powerful and very hot if needed. The hotel is in a wonderful location.

Room windows are probably quite old and therefore not well insulated, so you can hear road traffic quite clearly. Our room was located at the front of the building. The room was a comfortable temperature though, with effective heating making up for the old windows.

Unfortunately vey thin walls between rooms but nothing the pub can do about that. Food on the menu a little limited but what we had it both nights and it was good, freshly prepared not mass produced. Served very efficiently and by great staff. Lovely cozy atmosphere in the restaurant.. superb . 1 Cobweb in our room and mould round the seal in the shower but this could be due to the extraction in our bathroom not working . These are only minor issues overall a great stay and we will be back

It’s rare to experience good customer service these days let alone the service given by the Kings Head team. We were late getting up to the Lake District due to traffic, half hour out we received a call from the team asking how long we were going to be and if we wanted dinner as the kitchen was closing soon which we thought was thoughtful. All staff we came across were friendly and attentive and made us feel very welcome and as if we were at home. Great for drinks and food - The sausage and mash was delicious! Perfect location for our hike up to Helvellyn and surrounding peaks too. Would highly recommend visiting - Thank you The Kings Head team!

The walls between our room and another were thin so we could hear our neighbours. As it’s set so close to the main road you could hear all the traffic. The above being said we would stay again as the location and service outweighed these.
