I liked the location, lovely building, friendly and helpful staff.

We came lately to escape the heatwave (I suffer, as under strong medication), but we were unable to reduce the heat sufficiently because of its place in the building. The food was unexceptional, especially on Sunday night, as many food items began to run out.

Food in the restaurant was very poor. Dinner in particular was expensive and the quality was in line with a ready meal. They didn’t have half the desserts and several main courses. Breakfast was a bit better but the avocado on toast was inedible due to so much vinegar on the tomatoes. The room had barely any plug sockets, which when you’re paying £230 a night for the basic room mid week doesn’t feel in line with expectations. Charging for parking for guests just felt money grabbing.

This was the second time I stayed here despite my first stay being less than adequate and I must say that I’m glad I gave the hotel the benefit of the doubt. My room was beautiful with views over Wimbledon Common and the room was clean. Staff, just like last time, were wonderful. They were friendly and helpful - to top it off, the lady on reception recognised me after my first stay which is always a plus when you revisit a hotel because it adds that personal touch and makes you feel that the staff really care and pay attention to guests. I would definitely recommend staying here, close to all amenities (short walk) and a very relaxing location.

The room I had was at the front of the hotel and that can get quite noisy on a Friday/Saturday night when guests are leaving private functions/the restaurant/bar in taxis.

After a poor experience on a previous visit, I have to say the staff and whole experience was exceptional on this visit. I had two rooms booked, including an accessible room for my mother. Check in experience was very good with the young lady on reception, who also arranged breakfast for the family next morning and dealy with a few other requests we had. Breakfast was great, as was the service. It was a really pleasant experience including some evening snacks and afternoon drinks in the lounge area.

I was travelling with my two very young children and husband who was on business, the staff were very helpful and accommodating. They were understanding of my situation and helped moved luggage, store my pram and find me a quiet table for breakfast where we wouldn't disturb other guests. Our large suite was perfect for us as to use as a base, the children were able to move and play freely when we were back at the hotel. Was impressed with the bathroom facilities, which was always cleaned daily with fresh towels.

The only downside was perhaps accessibility, the lift was through a few doors and I could not have managed to get to our room on my own with two small children. I ended up using the stairs instead. Also, if you're relying on getting about in a taxi, make sure you book this well in advance or ask the hotel to do it for you. Being this side of the common means no taxis are passing by and uber rarely operates in the village.

The staff & location made the experience here for us. Rita on reception especially shone out to us as she had such a great attitude and was so eager to make our stay as relaxing as possible as we had had a stressful week with renovations going on at home. Another staff member who shined was a blonde waitress in the restaurant serving us on the Friday night but we didn’t catch her name sadly (not to be confused with another blonde with long hair who also works in the restaurant and I assume is the manager who was actually quite unfriendly to us).

The bed was made a bit sloppily on our second night which was a bit of a shame. A few towels were also missing in the second night which we had on our first night but Rita kindly brought some extra to us herself which was very kind.

Breakfast was tasty with lots of choice. Dinner was good and wine lovely. The restaurant staff were very polite, pleasant and extremely good. Clean cotton sheets on the bed.

Having to pay extra for car parking when we were staying the night in the hotel, especially when you are paying over £300. The room lacked natural sunlight. Also it would have been better to have fresh milk in the bedroom fridge for coffee and tea. Maybe a question to ask when guests arrive.

For a visit to the Tennis Championships the hotel is superbly situated - a pleasant 20 minute wall across Wimbledon Common and a short walk into the lovely town centre. The staff were exceptionally helpful and welcoming. The food was very good, the grounds wonderful and the rooms enormously comfortable. All in all an excellent hotel.

The Wimbledon weekend meant the hotel was very expensive. That's understandable, but £1,500 for two nights was a little over the top!

Impressive looking building, Great location, lovely orangery serving very good breakfast. nice ambience. staff very welcoming, professional and helpful. beds comfy. nice towels.

The (standard) bedroom was cold and the air con heater didn’t do much to heat it up. lighting in the room a bit too dim for my liking. Bath didn’t drain very quickly and shower screen seal required a good clean. no USB ports for charging phone. sound insulation between rooms and floors not great (it is an old building) and woken by dogs barking at 7am as owners walked them on the Common outside bedroom window - maybe a (non-standard) room at the front of the house would have been quieter?

The bed and bathroom and general ambience downstairs

I am 70 years old and the bathroom is designed for a 6 foot man who is a lot fitter and agile than I am and I am quite fit for my age..above average. It is very inappropriate for an older person to have such a high bath to have a shower in. For that reason it has put me off. The same happened when friends parents stayed with you a few years ago but they were more physically challenged.
